35559 I have Seven Eyes (for the x) on my bookshelf. I was supposed to read it for a book group, but never started it! So I can read that one.
Sea shells? Yikes!
I have a book of short stories I am supposed to read - can I count that as a nonfiction type (not using character names) and just take the total number of pages?

I asked the same question in a message. Here is Laura's reply.

replace dragon with "turkey" or whatever word you are looking for. Unfortunately, you may still have to read through the pages of tags.

35559 Thanks for all the welcoming!
I made a dinner I've never made before (a mutton curry), and that always takes me a long time, which means more audiobook time! Which means I will finish Seneca Falls and the Origins of the Women's Rights Movement before Friday.

There are a bunch of "characters" in this non-fiction book - so many letters will qualify. Do they have to be main characters?

Also, as this is an audio book - how do the pages work? I'm also following along in a hardcover edition - I like to go back and reread parts I missed.

It is so worth it!! The storytelling and characters are just amazing. I loved that book. Augustus is one of my top ten favorites, as well as Deets.

We can wrangle them in :) Think of the points!!

35559 Okay, I think I'm caught up.
Introduction - I am from Vermont. COVID has slowed down here, but you just never know. We can check out books from our library, but there is a wait period, and they are delivered outside under a little tent :) I still have a little money in book certificates left over from an end of the year teacher present and a birthday present :)

I am a slave to book challenges. I enjoy historical fiction, nonfiction, mythologically themed books, short stories... I'm always up for something different.

As for pets, 2 cats and a dog :) Our dog is part blue heeler and part Australian Shephard and is just the cutest thing on Earth says his momma who is me. The cats rule the household, and we are all a little afraid of the one that is my profile picture.

Hi Melissa, welcome to the team!"

Thanks! I love these team challenges and am glad to be a part of team Pants!! I just went over the rules - love it - and I will now read through this thread.

35559 I'm very excited! I'll go get another cup of coffee and see if I can figure this thing out!
35559 I finished! It's really worth it. So much fun. The only problem is... (view spoiler)
35559 Eldarwen wrote: "I'm so far behind.... But then, I knew this was going to happen haha. Always does!"

No worries :) I am just in need of good fantasy right now, so whenever there is downtime (after dishes, after dog walk...) I fly to the book :)
35559 Yes! I just finished part 2 today. Yes! Action packed! (view spoiler)
35559 I'm just on the first questions! I've been reading a bunch of books and pretending that I am hibernating. I wonder if there is a word for hibernating with books, because that's kind of what I do when it snows....I mean, I do work and eat too :)
1. Where do you think Matilda Tillerman fits into all of this?

Well, the whole Poe thing is interesting. Are Usher and Pryce the same person?

2. These characters are all so witty and quick and interesting. I'm finding myself really drawn to these types of characters lately, while also feeling like they're unrealistic (I wish I knew people half as fun and smart as Tuesday or Mo or Lila in this book). Do you enjoy these types of characters - why or why not?

Yes, I really like Tuesday. She reminds me of someone I knew in college, and so does Dex. Sometimes Dex's responses seem a little forced, but also fun - It's kind of like reading The Boxcar Children for adults.

3. What do you think is going on with all the missing people? What do you think is going on with all the mentions of witches and ghosts and death?! I'm finding it difficult to decipher what's relevant and what's not.
I didn't like the finding the clown that she thought was Abby - that was a bit creepy for me. Yeah, I'm not sure if this is a dealing with death or a romp through Boston book theme. The witches and ghosts part is fun.

4. So far I’m not into the lust/romance that Racculia is building between Tuesday and Archie. I just wish that there were more books where our badass main female character didn’t have a romantic subplot at all, because sometimes it’s just unnecessary! Do you like where Tuesday and Archie’s romance is going? Do you think it’s fitting in this story?
Yes, I agree that I'm not too into the romance. Maybe it will play out with Dorry - that she'll call Archie on something or another. I'd rather not have the romance in the book - but if so, maybe with someone less smarmy. I agree with Dex that maybe he's a psycho!

Bonus question! Would YOU have fired Gary?'m
Ugh, no. I would probably give him a look like don't do that. I hope I would talk to him about it, and help him get connected with services and all. I might go into the mom speech, being an old mom and all.

Pssssst, start with Red Sister ;-) Grey Sister is a #2 in series."

:)
Thanks! Now I have 2 more on the list! Is there such a thing as too many TBRs?
35559 I just finished Part 1 (and added Grey Sister to my TBR list - thanks for the recommendation!). I enjoyed the world building, and really like the diversity of the characters. (view spoiler)
35559 I'm about 125 pages in. I agree that the POVs in the West are more developed so far. I am really liking how the majority of the characters in power are women. I am continually pleasantly surprised with a new character, and I think, wait, that's a woman, that's awesome. I did not know about the different terms for dragons before this book, so I am also enjoying that.
35559 I just got the book from the library, so I’ll catch up as we go!
35559 I also just started. I like the different clans and loyalties. I’m glad for the characters list! I’m wondering if I should create a huge clan tree like I had to for Game of Thrones.
35559 Perfect!
35559 This is great! We have a great group :) February 1st is coming up this Saturday. Shall we make a plan? I've never done a buddy read before. I'm wondering - do we set a timeline? Would the month of February be too long or too short?
