I looked through some of the Q&A and it seemed like there was mixed feelings."
I can't quite make up my mind on what I think about it. Definitly not what I had expected, mostly because of the POV. It was a new reading experience, being inside the head of the MC all the time and read every single thought he had. The POV affects your view of the story, but it also make you distrust how the characters are portrayed. It felt a bit intense when reading, like I couldn't quite catch my breath because there was so much going on in the Mcs head. The story itself was good enough, a bit predicable some places.
The book makes you think about how people can be quite different on the inside than what they act like on the outside and that misguided/unrequited love can become dangerous when it happens to certain people...

1. What do you think about the POV? Does it draw you in or push you away? It's not quite in 2nd person, but it's much more direct than most 1st persons, even ones that break the reader wall. Do you feel Joe is talking to Beck, to you the reader, or both -- are you supposed to identify as Beck?
I feel the POV gives off a crazy or crazed vibe. It's like he has so many thoughts about people, Beck, everything and every thought is put down on the paper as it appears, no filter what so ever. It was a bit offputting at first, but then it got more fascinating. I'm not sure if I think he talking to either Beck or his reader, more like he's talking at her if that makes sense...I do not identify with Beck at this point, but we've gotten a fascinating look into a stalker's mind, that's for sure.
2. Many times books are set in first person to make it easier to emphasize with the narrator. Do you have sympathy for him? Do you feel you understand why he feels the way he does? Would it be easier or harder if you saw him from outside?
I have no sympathy for Joe this far, his toughts are too intense, and not in a good way, for that. I find it interesting though that he is so aware of how bad his actions look from the outside if people paid any attention to him, but he doesn't seem to care, because to him, other people's actions are worse (like Benji's behaviour).
I'm not sure I understand why he feels the way he does, but I can't help see a resemblance between him and every movie "geek/psycho" who has a delusional love connection with the "popular girl". It usually ends badly...
3. Is Joe an unreliable narrator? He's clearly delusional in some ways; how deep do you think that goes? Do you trust him that he's really doing everything he reports?
He doesn't have a filter on his thoughts that's for sure. He only sees things from his perspective and I think that makes him unreliable since his opinions will color the reports he make.
4. What do you expect from this book? What made you decide to read it? Do you expect it to have the beats of a thriller, or does the adventurous point of view change your expectations?
The synopsis made me read it, it captured my attention. Being on this side of a stalker situation is a new read for me. I expect the book to be unpredictable since the narrator, at this point, seems mildly hyper, yet cunning and clever, which can lead to unpredictable actions.

I have several: Burlesque, Safe Haven, The Choice, Jurassic World, pride & Prejudice (both versions).
