Hmm, I agree with Annika. The books aren't any good if you look too closely on the writing style (don't count how many times Edward's eyes are described, it is way too many!), but if you just try to feel the story, they are quite good, but really YA mind you. I read them some years ago (in my late teens or something), so I'm not sure what I would think about them now=)

If you do not want to do it yourself, just put all the info on the Book Read thread as before, and then Judith, Jessica or I will fill it in on the tracking spreadsheet=)

If you copy the link you use in your Book Read post, you can just paste it into the spreadsheet, the link will still work (just change the size and style afterwards if you want).

Like Judith said, more explanations/example will be given concerning the more confusing ones. I know Sonia is working on it.

I can tell how I have understood some of the classes if that can help temporary.

As for History, I understand it like this: We choose seven books freely, but we have to write an essay afterwards, based on the titles of those seven books.

For potions you can find the words in the text of the books (HP books will be very useful here) or somehow link your book to the word in another way that you can explain/justify. I doesn't have to be on the cover.

In Magical creatures we build our own creature based on creatures on the cover of books (dragon head, lion tail, wolf paws etc). The second part is a bit trickier, but if we are creative I think we can manage.

In charms we will have to find books that somehow fit the charm. I am guessing that can be stuff on the cover, character abilities, stuff from the story plot etc.

A book can only be used one place sadly, no matter how many places it fits...=(

I've heard or read that too, now that you mention it! Maybe it is in a later book?
35559 Soo, I couldn't wait till tomorrow, so started listening to the book today=) Finished chapter 1-5 and started on the 6th.

I truly love the Weasleys. They are a family built on love. They don't have much, but are still quite a happy lot. And I like that a bit of a temper comes along with the read hair, just think about (view spoiler)

I had also forgotten about (view spoiler)

I am looking forward to continue listening on my drive home after work tomorrow=)

35559 Big books will give more points, so if more people would like to read those bricks just go ahead, I am sure they can fit somewhere other than 800-900+ =)
35559 I'm in for Team Remus Lupin. I just finished the first book and will probably start this one tomorrow or Wednesday=)

Oo, that's annoying. Personally I like Storytel quite a lot, even though it is a bit expensive compared to other similar services.

35559 Here is a basic list of all the tasks required in classes, if you want a quick look=). For those tasks that need some explanation, you can find this on the "classes" tab on the spreadsheet. There are 112 tasks in total I think.

All the information is in the team spreadsheet on the "classes" tab=) The link to the spreadsheet is in one of my first messages in this thread.

35559 I managed to finish the rest of the book on the drive back home!

There was so much I had forgotten about, things that the movie doesn't include (and sadly I've seen the movie twenty more times than I've read the book).

(view spoiler)
It was so much fun reading this again, I will simply go right ahead with the second one=)

35559 I am going around stealing this great summary made by Captain Cat over at the Cedric Diggory team, and hoping she doesn't mind too much...

Looking at the formulas in the main sheet about classes:

Points only on full completion of all subject requirements:
Arithmancy
Astronomy*

Points only when sections are complete:
Care of Magical Creatures: the two sections must be complete to get points, but if we only finish one section (e.g. the "tell us more part") we still get those points
Charms: each charm must be complete with 2 books, but if we only do three charms (6 books) we get the points for those three.
DADA: each year needs to be complete
Diviniation: each section needs to be complete
History of Magic: each section needs to be complete. The Essay is a whopping 50 points!
Potions: equipment & ingredients need to be complete for points. Brewing (all the colours) doesn't.
Transfiguration: each pair of books for the year needs to be complete

No constraints:
Herbology - all completed books get points, with no minimums or constraints!

*Interestingly it looks like Astronomy books are scores by page count. So really we want chunksters there! Elsewhere it just seems to be by book, not pages

It might be best to try fit books into the classes first and then use them on spells it they don' fit anywhere. But we'll hear what the other captains have to say=)

We're waiting for Judith to get access to the spreadsheet and see if she wants to make another tracking sheet where it will be easier to keep track of letters, colors and tasks that each book fits.

I think we can start reading books for classes if we want, they are a lot more task specific than the spells. Maybe we can find a strategy when Judith has had a look at the sheet.

It was also me who put the turquoise note up. TinEye does not show colors such as indigo or turquoise (you'll note that there is always a main color at the end in a parenthesis, these are the ones we are looking at when adding up % of color). The cover color looks turquoise to me when comparing it to pictures, which is why I put a note there, so I don't forget asking about it later. The mods have been discussing how to tackle the color difficulties today and the captains will be notified when they have a solution.
