DQs Day 2 Chapter 9-13

6. In this section, we learn that the countdown at the start of every chapter is for the Read-a-thon, a reading event Daphne is planning at the library. Did you try to figure out what it was about? What did you think? Or were you just along for the ride, waiting to find to, like I was? I wasn't really curious - I figured it was maybe when her lease expired or something. The Read-a-thon makes more sense.

7. Speaking of the Read-a-thon, have you heard of or participated in (or even organized!) something like it? Would you like to? No but it sounds great! I have gone to a few release nights and they were memorable.

8. “[Sadie] and Cooper were our best friends” Daphne is not only going through the end of her romantic relationship, but also seems to have lost her best friend. What’s your take on that? Have you ever been on either side of this situation? (No need to answer/go into detail of course!) It really does seem easy to happen because so often our friends happen because we have something important in common (kids the same age, etc. )


9. “I think the beard is sheer chaos, but not inherently bad. It’s your face, Miles. All that matters is how you feel about it.” I think Daphne makes a great point here and think we should all remember that a bit more before we judge people’s looks. Were there any quotes that really stood out to you? I had to return my book, but there were quotes I would definitely highlighted if I'd read it on Kindle. And I think that was a very good point about the beard. Why judge!?

10. What do you think is up with Miles’s family so he doesn’t have a relationship with his parents? How do you feel about Daphne neither probing nor really wondering about it? As I finished the book, I know the answer to this. I do think Daphne not probing is probably good - it seems to be a very sensitive area, and they aren't super close friends at this point - he doesn't know if he can emotionally trust her. And he may not even know how to express everything.

Yup! And I'd be so surprised if every book doesn't fit multiple prompts/letters.

I finished which can cover our yellow book if needed. Putting it in the spreadsheet now, and will add all the things it works for.

For Poisonous Fog - books I've finished:
Funny Story works for F - its potential mini-tasks aren't too hard to cover. I'll stick it in for F.

A Woman Named Damaris works for O (author LN). It does cover some lifestock/farm/yellow writing on cover mini tasks. And series #4. But I'd think "O" could be equally useful - so up to you captains!

I'll knock off this morning. We used it in Uno for Yellow cover so if it counts for that, great! But it certainly counts for other things too.

Vicki, it'll still count for set in Korea if we end up spinning District 3 - we can finish books before the "spin". But we can't spin until all the books for our current district are finished. No worries though, since we can "bank" books - it'll be used for future spins if it's needed for a prompt.

DQs Day 1 Chapter 1-8

1. Is this your first Emily Henry book or have you read others by her? If not your first, what has been your favorite book of hers, so far? If your first, has she been on your radar before or is this a BOM/Games thing you're reading for? Emily Henry has been on my radar for awhile, but I haven't actually gotten to her books. So this BOM was a fun way to change that!

2. What do you think so far of the story and the writing? I ended up only getting to access to a 7 day check-out from the library. I really enjoyed both the story and the writing.

3. What would you do if you found yourself in the same shoes as Miles and Daphne and were invited to an ex's wedding?!? I would have had the "run" instinct Daphne had. BUT I can see the point of going. And it was funny how they decided

4. I love Emily Henry's characters. I always find myself laughing throughout her books. Are you enjoying the characters so far in this one? Anyone in particular an early favorite? I really like Miles and his mood music and stuff. And I love the dialogue. It makes me laugh too.

5. Any early predictions for how this will turn out? Do you think Peter's call to Daphne is an indication of jealousy? Do you agree with Ashleigh when she said "If Peter was going to break your heart now, he wouldn't done it eventually." and "He's a lunch swapper, and whether it was the rusty metal Batman lunch box or a Cars 2 zip-up one that's filled with mold, at some point, he was going to trade in the sake lunch." (I love that metaphor!!) I think that Peter wanted Daphne's heart to be broken - he's jealous for sure. There IS a certain attraction to what you don't have.

Vicki - I'm pretty sure what Teddie was referring to is the books from round 1. We want to finish each round as quickly as we can so we can go to the next round and get more points/use more books.

I think for Round 1 the ones you are signed up for are "Taking Shots" (already done) and "Same as it Ever Was"

I'm ok with repeating D9, but it's kind of more fun to do a district tour first :) I put my finished potential backups for this round above.

I'm fine with banking them (of course) but I did finish 2 books yesterday - one that covers "E" and one that works for tasks D or H (yellow writing or grain related in plot- they buy a sack of wheat to make flour/bread). Just in case they are needed as backups.

Captains, are you ok with my not claiming specific things, just trying to find books useful for a variety of tasks? Lol - I've started worrying I'm doing it wrong. nvm - after looking at the spreadsheet, I think I'm fine. I swear - I should never ask things first thing in the morning!

But one thing I did right is finished my books just now for round 1. :)

I've added the set of books I'm pretty sure I'll get done before end of challenge. I didn't claim anything specifically, because who knows what we'll be filling. But I did write all the tasks they work for. I can write the letters they'd work for was well - let me know if you want me to :) Just trying to prepare for when we are out of contact.

I'll also have the three I claimed for round one finished tomorrow morning - they are all waiting to end :) One of them is driving me crazy not reading the last bit!

But I won't have computer access, just my tablet and phone. I'll pre-plan as much as possible, have stuff on my shelves, but may need linking help at times. I'll be back to finalize stuff before end of challenge.

At least, that is plan A. But...my health is still not great so ??? I was in the ER Saturday and have several appointments this week, so I may be here, linking all my books myself, and super grouchy :/

Sounds good. I didn't see dates on the mini (although I should look again) - its it finished after August 1 but we can start any time?

I saw the book at the library a few days ago on the "quick reads" section (have to return in 7 days), and went by this morning and it was still there, so picked it up. Yay!

Mine is done. I'll update when I get home.

About the accelerated training - good comment! I'm wondering now if it is because Coin wanted the ex-tributes in the capital? Or maybe it was their super-powers :)
