Oh I totally didn't see that! Is anyone feeling creative?
And cool - I was thinking the special had to be from 500 + page books since it was kind of grouped with them.

There are still some #Ref errors I''m not sure about, and a LOT of possible meals (as well as changes to the current ones. Kate can give any of you edit access like she did for me (just request it in the sheet). I'm sure if we all work together and come up with meals we will have a delicious selection!

I put in a few meals but I'm sure we'll be changing things around. Just wanted to get something done so that end of the month isn't too overwhelming.

17. The wrapping up of this was very hectic, with bonus tear-gas fueled bathroom sex! Was the ending satisfactory to you? At times I thought the book dragged, so a lot happened at this last part. I felt like the sex was pretty thrown in there, but w/e. Probably wouldn't be my first reaction when my eyes hurt.
18. Jess blackmails Sophie into helping out the sex-trafficked girls. What did you think of this plot line? I thought it was the most "happily ever after" idea the author could come up with. While in some ways I like a happy ending, it's definitely fiction in this case (in my opinion).
19. Any changes in your view of the characters over the course of the book?Well Mimi changed from innocent to innocent and crazy. I never did love any of them but I did like Theo a lot more at the end than the beginning.
20. Finally, do you think the inversion of the normal view of Paris as the city of love was effective here? It was a realistic scene for the club, I thought, so that part was effective.

13. There is a lot going on in this section with many twists. First, we head to Amsterdam and the Ben/Nick encounter was this expected. What are your thoughts on how Ben treated Nick when he moved into the apartment?
I think Ben totally used Nick, and because Amsterdam was an emotional moment for Nick it makes me really not like Ben for that.
14. Ben and Sophie embark on illicit rendezvous courting danger, while Mimi is on an obsessive mission to seduce Ben. Where do you see this ending? It cannot end well. Even with not as broken of people this would be horrendous. I was actually surprised Ben wasn't sleeping with both of them.
15. Jess and Theo succeed in gaining entry to the exclusive club owned by Jacques but are thrown out when they attempt to access the locked room, with one of the dancers being fearful when she spots them down there. Ideas on what is behind the door? I have finished the book, but I certainly knew what was going on there. I did get a little confused with the masks the patrons wore at the club because it still seemed like everyone was easily recognizable. But maybe I missed something.
16. We learn a lot about Mimi’s heritage and her connection to the Concierge. Do you think she’s aware of the connection? I don't think she has any idea. I felt so bad for the Concierge.

9. Now, we know they are one big (not so) happy family. What do you think of the family dynamics? Do you think it is odd to live in an apartment in someone else’s house? This also means that anyone could have a key. I would NOT like to live as the only non-family member in a house - how uncomfortable! I was very surprised they were all related - I didn't see that coming.
10. We have learned about the father and his view on sex/chastity with two of his children (“becoming a man” and his daughter’s outfit). How do these two scenes reflect on the family and character development? It made me hate the father and his double standard. And it seems like it really hurt both of the children.
11. Ben seems to have been investigating the family business. What do you think is really going on and is represented by the “wine” transactions? I think there is one obvious choice, but I will wait for others to comment. At this point I figured it was some kind of money laundering.
12. Finally, do you have a favorite character so far? Do you think the characters have developed much or are they still mostly defined relationally? My favorite character at this point was probably Sisi (I have no idea how it's spelled since I listened to the book). She seem nice to Mimi (who I also like a lot at this point).
I don't like the others a lot, but don't have anyone except Antoine.

5.) This section opens with Jess and Nick meeting which provides more insight into Ben and his relationships with friends. The conversation Nick and Ben had about the apartment rent seemed really odd, why was the rent for that apartment so cheap? And how could Nick really arrange it? Nick seems to have some kind of inside track to the apartment. I wondered if he owned it or if like one of his old relatives owned it or something.
6.) More layers added to the Concierge, she seemed to like Ben because he treated her like a person. Anyone else think he had an angle there and he wasn't just being a decent person? However, she's following Sophie's instructions about Jess and vaguely threatened her. Any thoughts as to why? I think Ben did treat her as a real person (great) but was also looking for information (not so great). I still respected him for actually seeing her. When she warned Jess, I wondered if she thought Jess was in danger and wanted her to leave. But I also suspected at this point that the Concierge was Sophie's mother and being allowed to live there because of that, and that's why she obeyed Sophie.
7.) Things are not looking good for Ben, I'm back to pondering the freshly planted flower bed in the courtyard. Any guess at what he's been up to? The blackmail of Sophie?I totally did not key to the freshly planted flower bed here - oops!! I agree that I thought he was blackmailing people.
8.) The police station. Do you think Nick told them what Jess think he told them? Or do you think he told them "this is my friend's nutter sister who thinks he's missing when he's off getting laid".?I was totally suspicious of Nick when he did all the talking and Jess couldn't understand. And I was SO frustrated with Jess for not being more suspicious.

1. Lucy Foley has been a very popular author over the last few years starting with The Book of Lost and Found in 2015, this is her sixth book. How many have your read? Have you a favourite? What is it about her writing style that keeps you coming back? And if you are a newbie what are you expecting from The Paris Apartment?
Note: I read this book over the weekend when travelling and I am returning to answer questions :)
I have previously read one of Lucy Foley's books (The Guest List) so I was expecting the same - a lot of characters and twists and turns.
2. Ahhh.. Voila. Paris the city of love and light. 💕 How important do you think the apartment's location will be to the story? Have you been to Paris or is it on your travel bucket list? Any memories/stories you want to share. I have been to Paris twice and I LOVE when a city is a major part of the story. I'd love to go back! Things I "discovered" there - nutella, when it wasn't on the shelves in the United States. I was told that the residents would be rude, but I never saw any of that - everyone was quite polite and welcoming. I loved the history I saw there and the art!
3. And now to the prologue. Does is set the scene? What are your initial thoughts of Ben and what is to come? PS Isn't the key so cute with the Paris landmarks on it. I want one!I want a key like that too! I did think the prologue set the scene and it was interesting because (note again I've finished the book) although it's clear (I thought) something really bad happened to Ben I was still kept guessing throughout.
4. It's a bit of a femme fest with all the main characters at this stage women. Jess, Sophie, Mimi and the mysterious Concierge - all seem to be full of subterfuge and secrets. Compare and contrast these women and what do you think their ongoing role in the novel will be? At this point: I felt like Jess was being kind of stupid, and alternated between liking her a little and being annoyed. I felt sorry for Sophie having to be so perfect for her husband and not getting to eat any of the wonderful French food! Mimi just seems so innocent and naive. And concierge is one of those characters that seems to be there to mysteriously refer to knowledge and then get killed before she can tell anyone.
