35559 yeah. i thought it was safely on my desk. But it wasn't. I changed the layout of my bedroom/home office a couple of times in the last year. So. I know where it was. A year ago. But, it isn't anymore. So. now I'm going to track down all boxes with stuff to deal with later that are currently scattered all over the place.

Not a pleasant task at hand. No. But. I might use the excuse to finally declutter/deal with it.

35559 Yeah, King is a no-no for me. His books give me nightmares. At least the two anthologies that I have read did. Those had some really twisted tales in there. They were a request from Eni for her 15 y.o b-day. They were also the reason I got her Harry Potter for x-mas, because I thought she needed a less creepy factor.

So, I have to thank Mr King for the introduction to the boy who lived.

Yeah, individual maze wants me to read a book from the best horror list. HORROR. And worse. With so many King fans out there, there aren't that many mistagged books. Because is not horror... it's the best horror.

I like her Seanan McGuire persona, so, at least the writing style is familiar. Between zombies and flesh eating mermaids... I thought the later was a better fit. Even if I did enjoy the two novellas I read set in the newsflesh world, I was not in the mood to start a new trilogy.
35559 Epic and a Chunkster book. What was I thinking?!.

Oh right. I listened to the audible sample. And yes, I got both editions, because I might need to switch between the two.

35559 Yeah, I am currently reading Into The Drowning Deep, and my sister just asked me to download the prequel because she got mermaids and that book knocks down 3 tasks of it. So, keeping fingers crossed for some mermaids on our future. Just not now, because although the prequel has like 120 pages, mine has 500+

Also, once work calms down a little, I'll be working on a better tracking system for monster tasks. If not today, definitely tomorrow as it is a holiday. Although the priority for tomorrow is to find my work phone - I have a dual sim as my personal one, so I stuck the card in there, and forgot where the other is. Since Friday is my last day of work, I need to return both the phone and the computer. So. I need to find it. ASAP.

35559 I normally used the La Roche Posais, since it's mineral and not chemic.

Since I'm starting to get some sun spots - age + vitiligo is not a good combination, even if my vitiligo is really mild and mostly on hidden spots - I decided to try the ISDIN brand, since they are pros at the sun spots thingie.

I'm not fan of the body spray so far. But. I was used to a different type. I guess too many options can be bad.

35559 Okay, so

MINI MONSTER HUNT
The challenge will last for a whole month. The main goal is to read as many monsters as we can. We only have 5 at a time, once one is completed, we will have another assigned.

So. Best strategy
- first come first served approach.
- Try not to claim more than a monster at a time
- When finishing a book, look at the tasks that are available, and let us know (on the post) how it will fit them
- If a finished book can't be used for the current tasks, it's okay. Any book finished after the countdown, it's eligible for future monsters.

That been said, READ! READ! READ!

Oh, and if you came across a book that has a sheep and a person on the cover, grab it. Highlight it. Clamor to the winds that you have it. It is more valuable than the golden fleece.

35559 SPF30?!

I'd be toasted with that. I use 50+ for sun intolerant skin. And stay mostly in the shadow. That's the only way I tan.

Eni doesn't. She get's red or white.

The minion is mixed race, so, she has that lovely caramel tone, that only gets darker. So not fair. *pouts*

35559 Yep. I need to wear sunscreen when I cross the bridge to my stepdad's.... which I did last saturday. At least face, neck and arms... I thought, heck, legs don't need it 'cause we'll be in the car.

Guess what? I know sport two red patches above my knee, till the place where the shorts ride up.

I guess I needed it anyway.

Btw, the trip only took 40 minutes, and only 15 of heavy traffic.

35559 Good Morning all!!!!

There was ONE mention of beach. And it was kind of a spur of the moment decision, which turned out to be awesome because the weather gave us the perfect beach afternoon - after 5 PM, of course, we might be from Portugal, but olive complexion we have not, so we do burn easy.

Anyway, cyclone Alex has been around, meaning a heat wave. Combined with the long weekend, people have been a bit crazy.

I basically slept. Because what can you do when it's too hot to be outside and you're exhausted?

LOL

Okay... time to do some serious catch up - I also need to do some serious work today - and then we'll prepare to hunt some monsters!

35559 I really wish her gothic writing style didn't make my brain struggle, because I wanted to read her books so badly. Eni has a few, but I just can't.

Darn brain and how it is wired...

35559 Considering that Vampire Diaries only had the character's and the city... not surprised.

Which was not bad, since the books are... not that good IMO. I got bored.

Now, Anne Rice is a different beast altogether.... I would expect some respect.

35559 I only read the first one of guild hunter. Have the others to continue, but I keep forgetting. Steven loves the series, even with all the references to lady parts. So. It must be good.

Well the other MC is called Winter... you take your own conclusions. :P

Claire wrote: "I tried to read Unbreakable Bonds but I wasn't in the mood so I put it down. It's time I try her books!"
Yeah, her books are not for everybody, and it might take a while to get into. For the first part of Claiming Marcus I was just reading it because it had a piano on cover for the mini. Not sure what the turning point was... but then I was curious enough about the main arc to continue. When I finished I decided to try the next one... and then totally fell in love and couldn't stop.

Fair warning, it happens a lot with book series, and sometimes they are more Susi Hawke and less Ty & Zane.

Lords of Discord by Jocelynn Drake.

It has an Unbrekable Bonds feeling but with Vampires and a little more of cheesy lines - a good example is when one of the love interests yells "Winter is coming!" during a ... well timed event. *giggles*

Claiming Marcus (Lords of Discord, #1) by Jocelynn Drake Saving Rafe (Lords of Discord #2) by Jocelynn Drake Waking Bel (Lords of Discord, #3) by Jocelynn Drake Embracing Winter (Lords of Discord, #4) by Jocelynn Drake Healing Aiden (Lords of Discord #5) by Jocelynn Drake

35559 Claire wrote: "I want more lore, more magic and they need to have some weaknesses as well"

Exactly. One of the things I liked with the Variks, was that although they could be awake during day time, they were sluggish, sleepy and were extremely vulnerable to sunlight - they didn't turn to ash, but were seriously burned and very little of it could kill.

I also enjoyed how vampire blood affected werewolves and how werewolf blood affected the vampires.

And how every vampire had a secret gift, or the struggles to being a new born vampire.

35559

Good morning!!!

Since I loved Mountain Topped so much, and I'm currently on a vampire kick - I blame Jocelynn Drake and the Variks - I decided to try Mia Monroe's Never Trust a Guy With Fangs (Covens of Eaton Falls #1) by Mia Monroe .

And I am... conflicted. On the one hand, it has a lot of tropes I usually like - like fated mates, enemies to lovers, etc. On the other hand, vampires kinda sleep at night and are out during day hours... No sparkling thank the heavens. But that was not what bothered me.... it was the writing and the speech.... I swear if not for the plot and being curious about stuff, I would put it aside. And I read a lot of KU books. So. my standards are pretty low.

Will I read the rest of the series? Of course, I'm a glutton for punishment. I just hope this one doesn't have a thousand years old vampire with teenage woes of love.

Sure, pairing to write books isn't the same as written them on their own... but I was expecting more.

Soooo, what are you reading?

35559 Right?! Blood Heir's ending was.... I have so many questions... You know... One of them being how on earth does he turned a mint green? What the hell happened to Ascanio? Not to mention the order leader and the werewolf alpha.

*sigh*

Hugh's book is too dark, and she wasn't in a good place with the pandemics.... But hey, that's how blood heir come to be, so no complaining.... Unless Gordon decides that he's not up for more hate from the haters and pulls the plug on Derek and Julie.

Oh well. They're self publishing from now on... So... Whatever they throw our way... I'm going to read it.

35559 I know, right?

Ohhh I can't wait for Ruby Fever. The snippets I've read (yes, because I'm a glutton for punishment) promise it will be soo soo good.

Of course that's another series ending... so there's that. Who knows. Maybe Arabella has a chance to be in the spotlight too.

Also, I've been following Inkeeper's installments - they're up to chapter 16 - and I can't wait till the full thing is released. So, so good.

I really wanted more Julie and Derek... but I guess we have to wait.

Good morning team!!! (yep, sharing the Ty&Zane obsession)

Anywoo... yesterday was a productive reading day. Knocked out

It's Just a F***ing Date Some Sort of Book About Dating by Greg Behrendt for maze - I giggled so hard with some of the stories

Aaaannnnd since I'm having troubles letting go of the Variks.. aka the Lords of Discord series, and that is always a dangerous thing, I tried a re-read of a favorite author. Book #2 is supposed to be out in a couple of weeks, so I revisited.

A Mage's Guide to Human Familiars (R'iyah Family Archives #1) by A.J. Sherwood

It was a nice going. I'm still missing the Variks,,, so not sure what to read next, but now I have two troubles 1)I stayed up till almost 4 AM and I'm totally wiped. and 2) A Mage's Guide to Aussie Terrors (R'iyah Family Archives #2) by A.J. Sherwood is not going to be out till the 24, and I WANTS IT NOW.
