You Are Not Alone

I finished the book. It wasn’t my favorite. But I will look for her upcoming books. Because I know she has done better.
(view spoiler)[I think the main problem for me was the lack of emotion I felt. The story needed to be more emotional and I needed to feel Lauren’s turmoil more. One True Loves was better at that.
I also think there were too many storylines about Lauren’s family. It took me away from the story about Lauren and Ryan.
I also wished Lauren and Ryan had actually talked to each other without hacking into each other’s email. It could have been by email. I just think it would have been more interesting and romantic to see them open up to each other and talk about how they felt and what they could do to make their relationship better.
The one good thing was how it did show multiple ideas on how to live your life. And that all are okay. It is up to you to decide what is most important to you. (hide spoiler)]

I was a big Buffy fan! I will definitely do the audio if Spike is narrating!
Brooke wrote: "The Dresden Files series is so good! The first 2 books are just okay, but after that each installment is great. I still have to read #15 before the new one comes out in July, but I'm going to TRY t..."OK. I will try to fit in Dresden Files soon. So many say it is great.
And LOL about Roark! I can see how reading any series would highlight some negatives.

The In Death series will be the death of me! 😁I have read some of the books. But not in order. There are too many! And I still haven’t read the Dresden Files. I saw the show years ago on Syfy.
I read part 2 and 3 of the book yesterday. Some of what Reid says is definitely true about marriage. Difficult to stay “in lust” after a while. But that wouldn’t be practical. Nobody would ever get things done. LOL And communication is important of course. None of this is profound. I am still finding the book surface-y. I won’t say more because it may be in part 3.
Laura and Brooke once you have read through part 3 -
(view spoiler)[ I didn’t like that Lauren read the emails either. She tried justifying it by saying Ryan should have changed his password. That was lame.
The book is showing mumltiple perspectives of thoughts on relationships. Some I strongly disagree with. Like having a baby to keep both people from leaving the marriage.
I don’t find Lauren or Ryan too likeable. So I’m not really rooting for them to be together by the end. (hide spoiler)]I am planning to finish today.
Laura wrote: "The book is broken up into 5 parts... do we want to read it over 5 days rather then 3?"I will probably read it in 3 days. It’s not a long book. But if you want to read it by parts, I’m okay with that.
(view spoiler)[ I didn’t pick up interest by Ryan for Rachel. I definitely don’t want the book to go down that road! (hide spoiler)]

I finished today. I agree that I did not see all the twists and reveals coming. Moore’s writing is so wonderful. I can tell every word is important. So it was easy to just get swept away into the world she created.
I agree she did a great job at showing us the life of a drug addict and the affects on the user’s family. Glad you enjoyed the book too, Brooke! I think you will enjoy the other book too.

Well, this book isn’t as good as the last Reid book, in my opinion. One problem is I literally just finished a great book about the struggles of marriage.
Fleishman Is in Trouble I recommend if you haven’t read it. This book is just too surface-y. I don’t feel like I really know the MCs.
The bickering started to annoy me right away. I haven’t separated from my husband. And hopefully, that will never happen! So maybe that is why I am having trouble relating?
I’m hoping now that things have moved on, it will get more interesting to me.
Interested to see what everyone else is thinking about the book.
Brooke wrote: "I'm ready for tomorrow! I'm good with taking around 2-3 days to read this, although I don't know how to break it down. A lot of the chapters/sections are really short and a few are really long."You are right, Brooke. I will be reading more than 9 sections. It was no where near a third of the book. I’ll probably stop at part 2 today. About 17 sections, I think.

Yes, I will start tomorrow. Of course, this is another book without chapters! What do authors have against chapters!? I will likely read 9 sections a day since according to my audible app, there are 27 sections.
I am looking forward to it. Despite my grumbling.🙂

I am at the part where Mickey sees her sister working on the streets for the first time, about 75% done.
(view spoiler)[ Simon’s true colors are showing! He seduced Mickey and probably other young girls as well. And threatened to take Thomas from Mickey. I am wondering now if Simon could be the bad guy? Mickey followed him to the house where Mickey found her sister dead the first time.
Somehow I don’t think Robert Mulvaney is the culprit. I think the cops want him to be. The cops are protecting someone. And poor Mickey has stepped on toes by saying the man in the video may be a cop. Now she is being investigated.
I was so worried for Thomas when Mickey arrived home and couldn’t find him or Bethany. I was so glad to see the terrible babysitter go!
Mrs. Mann is interesting. A good example of a sweet soul that Mickey desperately needs in her life. Much better than Gee who has been keeping so much from Mickey, her father’s letters and money.
So Kasey is pregnant. I still don’t know for sure how the book will end. (hide spoiler)]I’ll pause the book here. I probably won’t read more this weekend. I’ll try to finish Monday or Tuesday. I may finish after you, Brooke!

I was confused about the names in the beginning too. I have to admit I glossed over them, not knowing the significance. I figured I’d go back if necessary.

Don’t worry about reading slow! I can see how reading a physical book would be different from digital. I am actually writing a summary for another group I’m in that will read this book in February. So I decided to slow things down so I can absorb it more. I may not finish until next week. So don’t feel rushed!
I read 20 more sections yesterday. It’s difficult to let you know where I’m at without letting slip a spoiler. That’s why I prefer chapters. I’ll read more today before making any comments.
Question, how are the sections noted in the book? Some of my sections seem very short. I was wondering if the book also has short sections. Or is my audio split like this, but the book isn’t?

I am about halfway finished. The book is hard for me to put down! Mickey and Kacey seem very alive and real to me. The mystery is evolving slowly. But I don’t mind because the characters story is keeping my interest.
(view spoiler)[ Simon isn’t the total nice guy he seemed at the beginning. He’s more “complicated” to use his words about his wife to Mickey.
This Dock character does seem like a bad guy. But I am not totally convinced yet he is behind the murders or Kacey’s disappearance. The cop angle is more interesting to me. O’Hearn, of course, would want to protect a cop. I wasn’t surprised he planted doubt in Mickey’s mind.
Mickey’s son Thomas spending time with Mrs. Mann was sweet. She was a better babysitter than the one Mickey hired. (hide spoiler)]I will take a break today and give you a chance to read more. I’ll finish a book or 2 that I’ve already started.

I did start the book yesterday. I read 27 sections and of course no now or then section. But Mickey is with her partner Truman, who is on disability. I won’t say more in case you aren’t there yet.
I am really enjoying the book. Moore is doing a good job at giving us background on Mickey’s past and family. It is heartbreaking at times.
(view spoiler)[ I would have freaked if I found my sister “dead” as Mickey said. And her sister was still so young to have almost died from an overdose! And both Mickey’s parents died of an overdose too. Genetics was too strong for Kasey, I think. She was troubled and couldn’t resist the allure of drugs.
I am most intrigued about Simon, her son’s father. It did seem odd that a much older man was mentoring Mickey and spending so much time with her and nothing happened. Well, obviously things did eventually happen. But now Mickey doesn’t want to see him. Simon seemed like a nice guy. And Mickey says he isn’t violent. Why does she seem to be hiding from him then?
I am at the part where hopefully, Mickey will get some info about her possibly missing sister from this Dock person. I’m looking forward to reading more. (hide spoiler)]

I have read Maybe in Another Life years ago. It is on Hoopla. So no wait time. Let me know when you get it. I can do a reread with you!

Brooke - Yes, Sam did handle things great. Better than I would if a man had to make a choice between me and another woman. I was definitely on team Sam for most of the book. I think Reid planned it that way. We did learn more about Emma and Sam. I was still worried who Emma would pick until the end.
I will keep an eye out for a book from Reid in 2020.
Laura - I do think we can have more than one true love. I never believed in “the one”. That’s a fairytale. There are plenty of people we can fall in love with and live a good life with. The real work comes after finding your true love!

OK I will also use the “then” and “now” sections to help mark my location.

Just wanted to give you an update, Brooke. I do have the book. The bad news is that the book isn’t broken down into chapters. That irritates me. And there are more than 130 sections. Anyhow, I will try to read 25-27 sections a day and will finish the book by Friday. I know you have a physical book. Don’t feel like you have to rush. I’ll keep checking back until you finish.

I couldn’t stop and finished today too.
(view spoiler)[Without realizing it, my question in part 2 did become important to the ending of the book. I figured there was a reason why it was brought up by Sam, growing apart and changing. The ending felt right. I teamed up several times. 😢 (hide spoiler)]
