Kell is one of the last Antari—magicians with a rare, coveted ability to travel between parallel Londons; Red, Grey, White, and, once upon a time, Black.
Kell was raised in Arnes—Red London—and officially serves the Maresh Empire as an ambassador, traveling between the frequent bloody regime changes in White London and the court of George III in the dullest of Londons, the one without any magic left to see.
Unofficially, Kell is a smuggler, servicing people willing to pay for even the smallest glimpses of a world they'll never see. It's a defiant hobby with dangerous consequences, which Kell is now seeing firsthand.
After an exchange goes awry, Kell escapes to Grey London and runs into Delilah Bard, a cut-purse with lofty aspirations. She first robs him, then saves him from a deadly enemy, and finally forces Kell to spirit her to another world for a proper adventure.
Now perilous magic is afoot, and treachery lurks at every turn. To save all of the worlds, they'll first need to stay alive. (less)

Maia D’Apliese and her five sisters gather together at their childhood home, “Atlantis”—a fabulous, secluded castle situated on the shores of Lake Geneva—having been told that their beloved father, who adopted them all as babies, has died. Each of them is handed a tantalizing clue to her true heritage—a clue which takes Maia across the world to a crumbling mansion in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Once there, she begins to put together the pieces of her story and its beginnings.
Eighty years earlier in Rio’s Belle Epoque of the 1920s, Izabela Bonifacio’s father has aspirations for his daughter to marry into the aristocracy. Meanwhile, architect Heitor da Silva Costa is devising plans for an enormous statue, to be called Christ the Redeemer, and will soon travel to Paris to find the right sculptor to complete his vision. Izabela—passionate and longing to see the world—convinces her father to allow her to accompany him and his family to Europe before she is married. There, at Paul Landowski’s studio and in the heady, vibrant cafes of Montparnasse, she meets ambitious young sculptor Laurent Brouilly, and knows at once that her life will never be the same again.
In this sweeping, epic tale of love and loss—the first in a unique, spellbinding series of seven novels—Lucinda Riley showcases her storytelling talent like never before. (less)

I just read The Four Winds my first Kristin Hannah. Even though it is beautifully written and well researched I initially thought it was a bit slow in the first half. But boy, that ending was so emotional it made up for the slow start. I think I used half a box of tissues and did the ugly cry. Will definitely read more of Ms Hannah.

Can you all provide some book recommendations? We'll supply some in return if you wish."
Hi there Jenny. There are some recommendations in above messages 58 and 59. We'd love some of yours as well.
Celia, Sally and Namita are all on this team as well... so from travel buddies to frenemies, LOL. Good luck and happy reading.

Hi Marie,
Have you read the DI Kim Stone murder mysteries by Angela Marsons set in the Black Country of your country. They are enjoyable as they combine a lot of character development with the police procedural. Or Kendra Elliot has a couple of mystery/thrillers set in Oregon, USA. Anything Sandra Brown also crime thrillers are also pretty good. And Aussie Jane Harper writes thrillers where the country of Australia becomes an extra character, The Survivors is her latest.
Historicals anything Kate Mosse or Aussie Writers Kate Forsyth or Karen Brooks are good. Hope that helps.
