I think so. You can put both reasons in the defense column.

35559 @Kari - Can you please put Spooky Business on your Book Games shelf? Thanks!
35559 Don’t worry. As long as we’re not 16 - 18, no one expects us to do anything!

Lots of food mentioned in the book."

We need specific foods mentioned in the book in order to use a book for that category. Although for this book, Rose petals are edible. And the white vase counts for white on cover.

This applies to all books, not just yours. :)
35559 I think Effie, in the beginning, buys into the ‘glamour’ of the games. She’s probably only spent 1day a year in District 12, and a few weeks at most with the tributes. And then she has the rest of the year to soak in Capitol Culture. I think she also sees the District people as less than, which is a commentary on how racism is perpetuated. Until Katniss broke her cycle and she begins to think.
35559 Sammy, Ballad does not attempt to redeem Snow at all. I was afraid it would, so I didn’t read it until my kid wanted to see the movie for their birthday.
35559 Harry Potter also made long YA books possible. Tamara Pierce’s earlier books are short because the publishers wouldn’t put out a longer book for kids. Her newer ones are much longer.

35559 Make sure you are on the one that is titled The Capitol Team Tracking/Planning Spreadsheet. It is linked in my first comment (Comment 4, I think). The one in the first comment of the thread is the official team spreadsheet and is restricted to captains/co-captains.

I just keep picturing this scene from Stargate SG-1. The base is caught in a time loop, and O’Neil and Teal’c are the only ones who know. They keep trying to fix things, and then one day O’Neil says, “I’m taking this loop off.” And then shoots golf balls through the Stargate. I’m sure Haymitch just wanted to take a few years off!
35559 I've finished. I have only read these books once, and then seen the movies a few times. What struck me this time around was Haymitch (and how excellent was that casting?!)

I think he might be the character I feel the sorriest for. Even if he did win his Hunger Games by trickery as Katniss and Peeta surmise, he would have still had to kill at least one person. As an adolescent. And then to be returned to the scene every year. I think he drinks to cope with PTSD (and he really needed a therapist!). As an advisor, for the first few years the tributes would have been people he probably knew from school. And then eventually his friends' kids. And he had to watch them die every year, with no real means of helping them. And so he has no friends, so he'll have no attachments to the kids. Every other district's advisors have at least one other person to help carry the load.

So anyway, that's why Haymitch's character makes me sad.

It one of the things I like about how Michael J Sullivan writes his series. He writes the whole series and the goes back to the first book and edits before release. It makes for tighter stories and you don’t have these tangent side plots that end up going no where."

I agree. I hated the sequel to Me Before You so much for this very reason. It felt like a money grab after the book and then the movie did so well.
35559 Why do they wait to insert the tracker until just before the game starts? I would have thought that was something to do before they left the district.

35559 Basically. There’s always a chance that we do and then they don’t send any back. But it’s every round, so we could do the same back next round.

The books can be used to “Protect Supply Piles”, so that’s going to be a twist. Or they can be used for the mini challenge that will be coming. I figure we wait until the mini is announced. If the challenge looks difficult, we might send books read before it starts, to save ours. It’s all strategy for these 3 books.
35559 Gale being dragged away, “Katniss, remember I…”. And her thinking she’ll never know what he wanted her to remember. I wonder what he wanted to say? 😂😂

And just a few minutes later her (view spoiler)

As far as the location, I’ve watched too many movies/shows. Especially Stargate. Isn’t there a whole back-up military command center in Colorado Springs? I think that’s where the Aliens in Independence Day 2 take out the president. I always just assumed this was why that area survived better than others.

35559 @MelanieJoy - don't forget to include which categories your books work for on the spreadsheet! And please add The Hunger Games to your Book Games shelf. Thanks!

Also, when a book is BOTM or Buddy Read, please add it to the BOM tab and link your comments from the BR thread (I've done this one for you.)

35559 Hey Capitol team! We've gotten our first twist!

https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

We have been paired with District 1. We can send each other supplies! Up to 3 books. We will still get page points, but won't be able to use these books in our piles. But these books can be used to "Protect our supply piles"! So please make sure to put down multiple uses for your books, as we would want to send books they can use to defend a pile, so they have to fit defense and another category.

35559 Hey guys! I just wanted to let everyone know that Salt & Broom is available in KU. I swear it wasn't when I first looked, and I managed to find a copy at my library I could put a hold on, but then yesterday the copy was suddenly listed as 'Lost'. So I looked on Amazon again, and it was in KU.

The KU loan includes the audio as well!

I want to get it fixed, because we have to use what is in the dropdown box on the official spreadsheet!

ETA: It's fixed. And it was super easy, once I was actually looking in the correct place.

I have just realized that there is a typo in your name on the dropdown list on the official spreadsheet, so that ended up copied over to the tracking/planning one. I'm working on getting that fixed.

35559 Preeti, there is also an Australian one.
