35559 Non-fiction "characters" are tricky, but in this instance, as the title clearly refers to cycling, it can be accepted I think.

Also, sounds really interesting, will wait for your opinion, Andy. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Could you please set your book as "read" on your shelf, please?

It still shows "currently reading". Many thanks. :)

35559 The rules say

- set in country (more than 50%)
- author born there
- a nonfiction book where events in the country are the primary subject of the book

Keli, if you find you don't like the book, feel free to abandon it. Otherwise we will be able to use it for another task.

โ€ผ๏ธ๐Ÿง€ All books finished after 20 May can be used for future CHEESE-Spell-Outs (each book only once), so we ask you to make a note at least of the more difficult letters (U, Q, X, Y, Z, I, O) in Column N. This way we can check about options more easily when the next piece of cheese lands in our thread. ๐Ÿ˜

โ€ผ๏ธ๐ŸŒ Mini 1 - before you finish a hard/mid-level book for Mini 1, please check on the tab where we are with the current itinerary, as books for this may be moved around depending on reading order. We are keeping a close eye on this, but need your support as well. ๐Ÿ˜

Thank you & Happy Reading.

It's a complicated issue, I think, but the translator has a responsibility certainly.

The reason I hardly read any books translated from English to Hungarian is that I find contemporary translations -with few exceptions- subpar, as most publishers don't really go for quality translations any more, they are going for "cheap" and it shows. (and it simply drives me mad to read texts that butcher Hungarian grammar, structure and turn of phrases, because certain translators are not only not good enough with English, but have a poor mastery over their mother tongue as well.)

For a language, culture that has hardly any translators, it may be even more difficult to convey the message to people with different mindsets. On the other hand, the goal of an author is partly to reach an audience with their work, even though they may not have had an English-speaking audience in mind. Who knows?

I hope it'll turn out well, Andy.

I finished listening to the The Lumumba Plot: The Secret History of the CIA and a Cold War Assassination and found it excellent, gave it 5 full stars.

It is both very well-researched and written, a prime example of journalism/politics & history. Despite the difficult topic, it was hard to put down. And now I would also like to read King Leopold's Ghost: A Story of Greed, Terror, and Heroism in Colonial Africa, although I'm unsure about the when.

I'm contemplating books about Eritrea or Rwanda and both need mental courage from my side. So, will see what I'll end up with once I finished Monaco & the Holy See.
