I'm a Kindle Unlimited person, and more and more of the KU books available have the Audible version included. In order to get anything done at my desk, I need to have my earbuds in anyway. Win-win.

Chapters 13-17
15. Do you think the head of security has something to do with the missing mascara? If not, do you have any gut feelings about who may have?
Yes! And I hate Lo for being an irresponsible twit and not securing it as soon as she realized its importance. I dislike how much of this unreliable narrator thing is playing out exactly like The Girl On The Train.
16. Given what he told Nilsson about Lo's past I'm surprised that she has once again confided in Ben, this time about what she thinks she saw from the balcony of cabin 10. I don't trust him at this stage, do you think Ben is trustworthy?
No - he will be using this to his advantage - maybe to further his career or to steer her away from him as a suspect.
17. Flash forwards of news reports have confirmed that Lo definitely goes missing from the cruise ship. Have you found knowing this has increased or lessened the tension of the current story line?
It adds so many more questions, but definitely is making the book more of a page turner. Though I think she leaves the ship on her own.
18. When Lo found that writing on the shower, it confirmed that something has definitely happened to the girl in cabin 10. It seems like a scary situation for her to be in, especially not knowing who to trust. What do you think you would do if you were in Lo's position?
I would have kept my mouth shut and not come off as a drunk lunatic. She's digging herself a hole here. Approach the mystery a little more discreetly. And assume the wi-fi is out so no contact can be made with the main land as a result.
19. Future newspaper reports indicate a body has been found and it seems pretty obvious to me that it would be that of the girl. Do you think the author is trying to suggest to the reader that it is Lo? If so do you think she has succeeded in sowing enough of a seed to get the reader to consider it might be her?
It might. This could all be a combination of her depression and anxiety manifesting itself in a form of a schizophrenic mystery.
The girl totally gave Lo the mascara knowing she'd need it. Maybe Pink Floyd girl knew something was coming. She needed to give someone tangible evidence that she was there and her DNA was present on the ship.

8. Lo wonders about Rowan's experience of going to luxury places to report about them. She wonders "How can she stand it, these regular glimpses into a life no regular person would ever be able to afford?". Do you agree with this? Would you like to travel to luxury places for your work?
She’s likely numb to it by now. And there is a clientele for it, which secures her job. At least she gets to enjoy the luxuries as the expense of the company. Lo should enjoy it while she can.
9. Tina is looking at Lo in a speculatively way, while they are waiting before they can go to the dinner room. Why do you think she looks at Lo that way? Did she overhear Lo talking about her?
Her personality is the type that would typically question everyone. And she likely had to in order to get to where she’s at professionally.
10. Jo is panicked and is thinking of Judah, then she says “I imagined burying my face in Judah’s shoulder and for a second I nearly burst into tears, but I clenched my teeth and swallowed them back down. Judah was not the answer to all". Why do you think she says this? Does she really have second thought about breaking up with Judah?
It’s because she’s afraid. Of a lot of stuff. Jude is just the scapegoat.
11. When Ben and Lo are alone, she tells him all about the burglary. Why do you think she can tell Ben and not Judha all details and how it made her feel? What does this say about Lo's feelings towards Ben and Judah?
She doesn’t want to appear flawed to Judha and he popped the moving in question again. It freaked her out and she became closed off. She has the past with Ben, but can now easily consider him a friend. As the only person on the boat that truly knows her, it was easy to finally get it off of her chest – to someone who appears to have seen her at her worst.
12. Why do you think Judah is so worried about Jo? He asks all her friends if they heard from her. Do you think he is overreacting?
He knows how much she had been mentally struggling with the burglary, even if she didn’t tell him. If she normally contacts him daily, I’d hope he’d be worried when she doesn’t.
13. Lo hears a scream and thinks she sees a woman in the sea. Do you think she imagined it? After all, she is a bit drunk and is possibly suffering from anxiety and PTSD. How do you think the staff handles the situation? Should they have done anything else?
No, she heard and saw something. If it was just her screaming – I don’t know. She admitted to having left over crud in her eyes, which could account for the seeing things, especially the dirty glass.
14. I think it is strange the schedule of the order of the ports is changed. Do you believe the reason they give to Lo?
No, I don’t believe it. Because it’s a book. And because the cruise has plenty of time to catch the Aurora with the length of the cruise. Something was set to happen or unfold at their first port and someone with power needed to avoid it.

1. Have you read anything by Ruth Ware before? Why did you decide to join this read?
No, I haven’t. This book peaked my interest when it was nominated for a Good Reads Award last year.
2. I have the impression that Lo suffered panic attacks and slight claustrophobia even before the break-in. Do you think there's much more to her past than we've been told so far?
She seems like she was already ‘jumpy’ before the break in. Maybe an anxiety thing.
3. Theories on the break-in? Does a burglar wear latex gloves and lock the occupant of the house in their bedroom while ransacking the place? How would he know she didn't have a phone in her room? Seems there's more going on here than a simple burglary
The only thing that intrigues me is that he opened the door on her. Wouldn’t a burglar just lock her in her room and leave it at that. He got her purse, which I think may play in later in the book. I’m sure not havening her phone and wallet and such will be a problem throughout.
4. I can't quite imagine the boat. She said it isn't much bigger than a yacht and yet the descriptions make it sound quite large. Your thoughts?
A really, really big yacht.
5. Ok stupid question, but would you borrow mascara from someone?! (What a way to get an eye infection!) And also on this very expensive ship full of rich people the lady gives her Maybelline mascara which is a relatively cheap brand. A clue she doesn't belong there perhaps?
I thought the same thing, but this first cruise is for publicity. Travel journalist aren’t the key demographic.
6. Have you ever been so overly tired but not able to sleep? Do you think Lo is paranoid due to her lack of sleep and anxiety or is there someone watching her?
The lack of sleep can be based on anxiety, as well is irresponsibility. She’s unreliable from the get go.
7. Do you like the writing style? Is it an effective way to build suspense by using the emails to give us a glimpse in the future before going back to present day?
Really like the emails and the jumping back and forth between after the cruise vs during the cruise and how the story merge into one.
