DQ Day 3Chapters 16-21
11. The fight with Raff's old band (who looked like clowns) that ended with snakes is one of the first times we see the almost full band working together. What did you think of this scene? Did you like the action or was it confusing? I think I got distracted (I'm listening on audio) because all I really remember is Clay using the snake to kill Raff. I have found other action sequences easy to follow, so I think it was just a blip in concentration during this one.
12. So the hoarder kobolds - I thought they were great! And the bird-like creatures pulling the carriage. Do you have a favorite creature you've seen so far, or one you'd like to see? Tell why. I'm having trouble getting good visuals from the descriptions so I'm not really sure. Probably the kobolds, especially the baby ones.
13. I think in the last half of this section we really start understanding what a big deal the Kings of Wyld really were. And we get to compare them to the Screaming Eagles. What do you think about the ethics and popularity of the new bands that kill captive monsters in arenas? It seems like a much more entertainment focus rather than a helpful preventing death focus. It's all about the easy money now -- basically a comment on our current society.
>b?14. Lastleaf gave his (and the hordes') motivations for conquest. Do you think his reasons were valid, or is he just evil? Do you feel at all sorry for the monsters? I think everyone thinks their motivations are vaild. And it sounds like he has a legitimate reason -- although the scale might be a bit out of whack.
15. We all picked our favorite character in day 1 questions. Has yours changed since then? Nope. Still digging Clay. Although Ganelon has promise.

DQ Day 2Chapters 9 - 15
6. We meet the 3rd member of the band, the wizard Moog. What are your impressions of the wizard? Were you as surprised as Clay that he agreed to go right away?
He came across as how I would expect a stereotypical wizard to be -- kind of flaky, a little lost in his own world. I wasn't that surprised, especially with the rot situation. I imagine he's up for one last adventure.
7. That was some entrance to the palace, don't you think? What were your first impressions of Matrick? Were you surprised by the turn of events in chapter 11? Excited or worried when Moog announces that he had a plan? I hope they took the mirror with them just in case! I was somewhat surprised that he let himself go that much as a king -- appearances and all that. But he seems like an interesting character to add. At least we know it won't be boring with Moog around.
8. After several descriptions sprinkled thoughout the story thus far, we finally meet a druin. What do you think his plan is? Why does he really want the Council to stand down? Power, I imagine. Or revenge. Not really sure yet.
9. Were you surprised at how Lillian arranged the funeral? What did you think of Clay's contribution? How successful would you rate Moog's plan? It worked in the end, although not without a few bumpy patches.
10. Gabriel borrows Moog's crystal ball to check on his daughter. Were you surprised at what he saw? What did you think of the band's reaction? I'm still a little confused about WHO the horde is, but no, I wasn't surprised. I would assume if they were able to take out a whole army plus mercenaries that they are pretty impressive. I'm not sure what our 5 guys are going to do to help the situation though....

DQs Day 1Ch 1 to CH 8
1.) What do you think of the premise of the book, like an aging rock band getting back together to go on tour but an adventuring band instead? Is the author pulling it off so far?
I kinda like it so far. It's interesting how he's comparing the two and mixing a lot of what is happening in the current music scene in. I can see it very easily getting old, so we'll see if he can make it work long term.
2.) The rocks, may of hit me a bit in the feels. Did it affect your opinion of Gabe at all? It is a lovely thought, and confirms that he really does care for his daughter. I don't know that it changed my opinion of him though.
3.) How do you like the world building, is it being done effectively for you without major info dumping? Is it helping to set the stage for the story? So far I'm finding it a bit adventure of the week for me. I'm hoping as the travels really get started there will start to be a little more meshing of all the parts.
4.) What did you think about the parade? Did anyone else enjoy Clay's reaction to the ladies being whistled at and be disappointed when the lady blew a kiss back instead of skewering the guy (like Clay expected to happen)? I like his reaction better than the parade itself to be honest. I feel like I'm of an age with Clay, so his reactions are very similar to what I think I would feel in his place.
5.) Do you have a favorite character so far? Clay by far so far, but it's early yet and we still have half the band to meet!
Bonus: Taking a poll for a very important question. On the Tassel Farm: Centaur or Moose? Centaur.
Captains/Team is
orange enough? Lessons in Chemistry and I are not getting along, but I know orange is a more challenging color.
Is anyone else having trouble putting in the links on the mini-challenge pages? When I right click, the option to link does not come up on the list -- but it very well could be user error. :)
@ Laura -- Welcome to North Carolina! I've been in Raleigh for almost 20 years after I moved down from Pittsburgh and haven't regretted it for a minute. :) Off to check for colors in my TBR pile...
Yay! We're open!! Hello all! I'm Stacey, and I promise I don't usually use so many !! :) I have lost track of how many TTs I have done, but it was my gateway challenge, so I'm always excited when it starts.
My go-to genres are romance, UF/romantic fantasy/paranormal and mystery/adventure/thriller. I will (and have) read just about anything in the name of a challenge though I will try to avoid cozy mysteries and high fantasy if possible.
My favorite authors currently are Mariana Zapata, Kristen Ashley, and Ilona Andrews, and I do love an old school Dean Koontz now and again.
The only book I remember hating aside from some truly awful romance wrecks is Tess of the d'Ubervilles. Hated the MC and of course it was for English class so we had to talk about it for weeks so that cemented it.
I'm a physical therapist in a trauma hospital in Raleigh, NC and reading is my escape from what I deal with at work each day. I tend to read for fun, for stories and for characters and not so much for beautiful writing and deep meaning.
I have the 2 BOMs for May borrowed from the library already. I will try to read as many as possible, but I tend to fall behind on daily reading, so probably will not volunteer for questions.
I'm going to get my zombie book done either today or tomorrow but I will probably only get the 2 books done this round -- unless I can find a quick 160ish page book between now and tomorrow. Sorry!
Sarah Lyons Fleming writes some of the best zombie books I've read. They are on KU if you have it. They are long though. :)
Mary C wrote: "I'm not on my phone. I'm on Bing on a desk top."I was on my laptop on Chrome. What's funny is if I log in at work, the old pages show up. Maybe it's a Windows thing? I'll try it on windows when I get home and see if that goes to the old pages -- which I prefer anyway.
Dale wrote: "Stacey wrote: "I'm having the same issue as Mary on Terms and Conditions. I can't get to the tags page from the book page, but since it's MPG Contemporary, I'd like to think it will..."Thanks Dale!
I'm having the same issue as Mary on Terms and Conditions. I can't get to the tags page from the book page, but since it's MPG Contemporary, I'd like to think it will have more than 10 tags. Can someone who still has access to the old page please check? Thx!
Mary C wrote: "So I mentioned before that I hate the new book pages. Here's another reason why: This book is MPG Contemporary but it won't let me see how many times it's been shelved that. There's no option on ..."
Wow, I hadn't run into that issue before. That is hugely annoying.
I've finished both of my remaining books for this week -- that drive to work is good for something! :)
I'll have one done tonight. The other at lunch time tomorrow -- which should hit about 3 hours before the deadline. :) Sorry, it was a terrible week for reading.
Jhmingos wrote: "Any book recommendations for someone who's never read Kristen Ashley?"My favorites are the Dream Man and Colorado Mountain series and then the Rock Chicks. To me, Law Man is the most traditional romance while still giving you a good idea of how she writes.
She has a style that you either love or hate. :)
Can I start my books for next round now? Do we have to wait for the timer, or was that just first round?
