I had trouble with that scene as well! I thought it was just because I was reading before bed and too tired. Very difficulty to follow, but I figured I got the point, so didn't go back to try to figure it out. :)

I'm taking the plunge again. Just got my copy from the library. I'll start so I'm a little ahead before everyone else so I can actually participate in the discussion for real this time. :)

I'm finished. I think the author did manage to pull some things together by the end of the book. I still feel like a lot of things were kind of thrown into the story, just to see how it would work and I don't feel like the author has a good overall plan for the story. But that may just be me.

I don't think I will be reading any more of the series, but I'm curious what happens, so I'll follow along and read spoilers if you all continue. ;)

Kelsi, I agree its a great idea for a story. I think I'm still just struggling with her age-15 seems young to me even for YA--but maybe I'm just old ;). I also think that it would have been nice if she'd had some prep as she grew up. (view spoiler)[ Even if it was something as simple as her mother reading her all the Grimm stories as a child. I've finished up to Chapter 12--kindle says 55%--and I have to say I find it a bit of a mess so far.

Brody--who could just be the love interest or part of the Story, but right now Mina isn't even talking to for some random 15 year old mind reason. Her mother--who is crazy to even let her try this "breaking the curse". The trusty sidekick Nan--who is probably my favorite character actually. Charlie with his "not speaking" thing. Mina--who I'm sorry should not be even attempting to tackle something that has killed every adult male in her family. And now another cute boy has appeared--with somewhat questionable motives. It's just a lot and I don't feel like any of it is being explained well at all. Maybe by the end.... (hide spoiler)]

This is my first one of these challenges so I wasn't sure where I would end up. But decided I'd be happy to get over 1000 in early January, so happy I was able to get there. Now to see how much I can add on before we are done!

I finished What Alice Forgot this morning. I've updated the other post with the happy addition of Lamingtons to the scavenger hunt. :)

Manhattan is an Island, there's talk of the old Opera House in one of the chapters (I'd have to look for exactly where), and one of the characters thinks about jumping off one of the bridges.

I should finish What Alice Forgot this weekend which takes place in Australia, so I'll keep an eye out for a lot of those words. :)

I'm just getting to this point. I hadn't thought about that being what happened to Gina, but that would explain a lot about where all her anger comes from.

It's interesting to think about how different each life would be if small little things changed or different choices were made.

I liked New York and am glad I gave it a try. I struggled a bit with having my characters change so often--usually just after I had gotten attached to them--but when writing a book that spans 400 years, its a necessary thing. I will think about Russka, I'm not sure if I'm ready for another mammoth book, but I don't have any BRs planned for that time.

I've been wanting to start this series--if I can finish up my other books before you all are done, I'm in!

I finished Gunmetal Magic today and will finish New York for a BR either today or tomorrow. I'm working through another BR and will try to finish this weekend. What day do the numbers have to be in for the next update? I'll try to get it done before then.

I'm almost done. Just finished Brooklyn last night, and I was highly annoyed. (view spoiler)[ First I have to spend the whole chapter with Charlie, who I think will be my least favorite character of the whole book--and he gave the wampum belt away! Then, the Carusos are just gone. Just gone. I also would have like a little more about the Depression and WWII in NY, but we just jumped right over it. (hide spoiler)]

I finally started yesterday, and I'm up to Chapter 10. So far I like old (younger) Alice, but I'm not sure I would have liked current Alice. Still trying to figure out who Frannie is, and obviously what happened to Gina. It's a little slow going trying to establish each character, but there are just enough nuggets of info being thrown around about "what happened" that I having trouble putting it down. Darn work.

OOh, if a group of you are waiting until the beginning for February, I'd like to join you. I have too many other books to finish to start before then, but I'd really like to read this. Will see you back here in a week or two. :)

I'm struggling with that as well, Skandia. The other thing I'm finding difficult is the way that a death will just be tossed out in the following chapter. In Niagra (view spoiler)[ the author just happens to mention that James had died on the trip home from London they just talked about in the chapter before. Why mention it at all? Let me think he was happily off screen playing with his grandkids. It seems kind of pointless. (hide spoiler)]

I'm going to jump in on the Demonica series with you all too. I've read through the first 2 Lords of Deliverance, but it was all so far apart I've had trouble remembering things from book to book. I've recently re-read book 1, so I'll jump in next week when you start book 2.

I got stalled on the BDB after Rehv's story. I've been keeping an eye of the BR threads and hope I can join you all when you get to Lover Avenged for a re-read/refresher and work my way through the rest of the series. I've missed the brothers. ;)
