35559 I finished The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics last night as a BR--but not sure it will count for this weeks update. I will have some more time to read this week, so should get a few more lingering books done.

It's building up very nicely. I was able to get a little further last night, so I now have the "boat" established. Now to just get to the Olympics! Even though I know they win, its terribly exciting. :)
35559 So...I'm very late in getting started on this series, but hoping to get to get started in the next week or two. Anyone else still planning to read these?
35559 I'm reading--was just away from home and the internet for a few days. :) About 150 pages in so far and it seems to be moving in an interesting direction.
35559 I'm finally up to the last part. I'm still enjoying it, but getting to the point where I just want to get to the Olympics already! Tell me who is going to be in the boat! :)

I think I'm enjoying--if such a thing is possible--learning about the Depression as much as the main story.
35559 I'm getting ready to start this one. Probably tomorrow. I thought the first was an excellent read, so looking forward to seeing how the story continues.
35559 I'm late to the party, but finally finished Part 1--hopefully there are still some of you reading or interested in talking about it. I am finding that it is not a quick read as I want to get every little detail and remember it because it all feels so important.

My education of the depression was very poor when I was in school--we spent so much time in history class getting up to the Civil War and WW 1 that there wasn't much time left for anything more recent. It is truly amazing to listen to what it was like out there for those folks--just one thing after another.

It's also interesting to see how much more independent the children were then--either on purpose or because they were abandoned by their parents (I hope I never see Joe's father show up in this book again, but I have a bad feeling). But even the Pocock boys--leaving their country with nothing at the age of 18 is an amazingly brave thing to do. Most 18 y.o. that I know now wouldn't have the courage to take that on.

I'm excited to meet the rest of the boat over the next few hundred pages. :)

35559 Finally finished The Rosie Project as a BR and updated the other thread. Heading out tomorrow for family vacation so anticipating lots of reading time the next 5 days. :)
35559 I finished this afternoon, and don't hate me, but I didn't really like it much. I found parts of it amusing, but I had trouble figuring out what was really happening. I realize that was probably on purpose as Don didn't really know what was happening either, but I found it distracting. Also, (view spoiler)

I did like how the Father Project worked out. And it seemed to me that Don had kind of worked out the possibility of having Asperger's towards the end as well.
35559 I swear, I'm getting further into this today. I should finish up my other BR and will jump in. From the little I've read, I'm excited to get to it.

35559 I am not contributing a whole lot to our point total this week. Sorry! With Christmas prep, good tv for the last few nights, and for some reason not really enjoying the book I'm trying to get through, its just not been a good reading week. Heading out for Christmas break on Saturday and will have lots of down time, so will try to get some more reading done.
35559 I have just finished reading the jacket episode. It's interesting to me to see how completely differently he sees the world. The whole logical way he described his friendship with Daphne, when really it was a lovely and thoughtful thing to do for a lonely woman. It's an interesting viewpoint.

35559 Thanks Renee! I'll update the other thread tomorrow.

35559 I finished Wrecked, but I'm not sure if it counts or not. Goodreads says 95 pages. Amazon says 30,000 words and 103 pages. Which one do I go with?

Awesome! I was afraid I was the only one just starting. I was waiting on a library copy."

I'm just starting today as well. Glad to see I'm not the only one!

35559 Hi everyone. Just finished Feed and Archer's Voice --both BRs. I'll update the other sheet. I also am a little overwhelmed with the BRs, but not quite the high numbers of other team members. I have discovered that reading 2 books at the same time is about my limit.

I'm up for some bingo!

This looks like a fun one. If you all aren't starting till Mmid-January, can I join in?
35559 I finished last night. I have to say that I LOVED the world the author created. How the virus came about, how the levels of security had been set up, how you had to tell someone if you were going to be driving on the interstate--the whole thing just seemed very realistic to me and would be why I would keep reading the next book.

The characters on the other hand... (view spoiler)

I do agree that most of the political stuff died off after the primary and what happened at the ranch. But I think that Tate is such a caricature of a politician that the author has a definite viewpoint that came across in the book.

35559 I finally (!) finished Alice in Zombieland--it doesn't usually take that long for me to work through an audiobook. Not a lot of points, but it is directional.

I can read Wrecked for a skinny book, but it probably won't be until this weekend.
35559 Renee wrote: "I just finished part 2.

I just finished Part 2 as well. The politics are starting to bother me a little bit--you can definitely see some of the leanings of the author which is usually a bit of a turn off for me. But (view spoiler)
