I had a quick peek at the BR chat for Hunger Games - really interesting convos going on. but not sure I'll be joining in
I've never got into the Psy/Changeling books. no idea why not when I first came across them, but now there are just tooo many it intimidates me!
there's always at least one moment during a challenge when GR decides to make life SUPER hard for us challengers, isn't there?!How's everyone going? any book recs from the first week? what are you looking forward to reading the rest of the month?
for me, I enjoyed the short and meditative Small Things Like These. Rather than go large on the awfulness of the Magdalene laundries, it looks at it a bit more sideways, at how they got away with it via the silent complicity of the general population, with a large dollop of Christmas atmosphere to boot.
I'm wondering, maybe I should move Traitor Baru Cormorant into Heathcliff & Catherine for the page count and MC bent on revenge. It's against two +page count at the moment, but they are probably easier fills (wall in text / makes you uncomfortable).thoughts? shall I shift?
Can't believe I missed out on voting for Hiddleston! Was out at office party last night. This round I've no really skin in the game, but knee jerk for the bad guy!

If yes, we could finish off Zachary Smith. :)"
if nothing else it's a cheesy cover!

FYI, if you are interested in the Backroom BOM, there's a poll up to pick it: https://www.goodreads.com/poll/show/2...not a dinosaur in sight!
unless the line's moved, this should put me over the top!
early mention of Take That initially sent me for a spin - was this going to be soundtracked by jaunty 90s boyband music?! thankfully not, it rapidly returned to the dour le Carre we know and love!
ETA: grrrrrrr! line is 38.9%. I'm now at 38.3% gah! I hates that line!

I got another cleared off! I can almost touch that line! annnndddd I'm currently reading not one but TWO more books from the closet! I will show that line who's boss!Book finished: The Tower slightly jumbled story line, a bit of a mess, not gripping
not read that one. and 600 pages seems like a LOT of le Carre to get through! he's not your most upbeat of authors, is he?
reading a le Carre..... up to now my reading experiences with him have been of the Smiley novels, in grimy post-war times. (watching The Night Manager doesn't count!)So it's a bit of a shock to have reference to Take That in this one! original era, too. their jaunty 90s pop is not my expected musical background to a spy book!
