fab! I think that's all the tasks provisionally claimed!we can start reading for them now, but please DON'T finish until after the start of the mini 1 Aug (see tracking sheet for the countdown)
I'm currently reading
The Mountain in the Sea by Ray Nayler - works for author initialsand
The Sinister Booksellers of Bath - has a plot point around magical transportationand
The Tiger’s Daughter - horse on cover used for transportI can spin them all out until 1 Aug, so can cover those tasks
Which does feel like I'm hogging them, but does also get us a lot of tasks cleared off quickly so we can get a new spin
Of course, if anyone has a book that will cover any of those I'm happy to step back - the books get banked so will be used at some point regardless :)
But, for the mo: looking for blue text on cover and CARS in title as the only ones not currently covered
So, any volunteers for:☑️ CARS in title - Christine
☑️ blue colour cover (50%+) - Alyana
☑️ #6 in series - Christine
☑️ blue text on cover - Sandy
☑️ item related to district on the cover - Cat
☑️ author first & last initials in TRANSPORTATION - Cat
☑️ set in Germany (50%+) - Katie
☑️ plot element that can be linked to the district - Cat
Mini 3 is up! Clicking on the image above will get you all the information (and a pause now to admire Karen's magnificent wrangling of the AI prompts to generate all the spectacular images!) but the short info is:
- it's a wheel! Well, two!
- a task wheel (based on district info)
- a spell out wheel (arena hazards)
Spellout rules are slightly different - no characters this time, just title, series title and author (and translator / narrator if applicable)
When we finish a wheel we can choose whether to redo it or to spin for a new set of tasks / letters (for the tasks, we can request a respin if we've already done them, to maybe get through all the districts. letters we can't)
We can also bank books finished during this mini for use in later spins.
Our first letters are skewer-beaked birds
Our first district tasks are
CARS in title
☑️ blue colour cover (50%+) - Alyana
☑️ #6 in series - Christine
blue text on cover
item related to district on the cover
author first & last initials in TRANSPORTATION
☑️ set in Germany (50%+) - Katie
plot element that can be linked to the district
All the district tasks follow the same logic. The first task (CARS in title) doesn't require the exact word, but just the letters.
One book per task - we can't cover multiple tasks with one instance of a read.
The mini starts 9am UTC 1 Aug, so books finished after that point can be used.

If you answer during the period we'll get the points. :)

I'm already going to have to hide from Sonia, so I'll just stay hidden 😆"
New identity as The Reader Formerly Known as Sammy in the offing?!
It's the worst, Sammy!I voted Richard so that he had some love. And am also seeking the silver lining of at least one of them is into the next round.
But really....!
I have no words Sammy! You are at high risk of future wrath here!I'm obvs voting Richard, but shall take comfort that one of them is going through!
hurrah! we are getting well through those battle books, with 6 of them finished already!mine wasn't too bad, either, which is always a win when picking to meet a challenge. hope everyone else has had equally good luck :)
Richard please!ETA: and Sammy: if it's close can you give the Hot Prof team a poke for sponsor point shenanigans later :)

Day 3 DQ's Chapter 24 - 339. We keep hearing how people smell. Luzia of orange blossoms, Perez of plums and amber. Why do you think the author keeps mentioning this? Do the smells mean more than just an odor?
Possibly indicative of people with actual magic? The magical wafting of Luzia's scent into other people's love live/dreams at the end of ch 33 hints at something substantive there.
10. We are over halfway through the book. What has been your favorite part/scene/person/line so far?
I think the image of Luzia's first miracle in the torneo was impressive - a constellation of glass.
11. Valentina and Marius seem to be rekindling their marriage, finding love where there wasn't before. Why do you think the author is adding that part of the story when she could have left it out?
Not really sure about this. maybe that love sometimes needs other needs to be satisfied before it can bloom?
12. Now we are over halfway and know more of Luzia, the competition and this world. Why do you think the publisher and possibly the author chose this cover over any other possibilities? If you could remake the cover, what would you want it to look like?
It's pretty good - atmospheric of the time and plot - playing with danger
Done!got
Griffin
1 300 to 349
2 set in United States
3 red cover
4 "brave" or "courageous" in text
5 cross on cover
probably Domi's HP can fit into brave / courageous?
I finished a book that works for the page count for Triffid's, which would complete that set at the price of bumping Domi's Harry Potter. Thoughts?
