fun feminist western, though the stupidity of the MC in blurting out the full truth anytime she was asked was annoying, even if necessary for a plot element.

the sport was strongly foregrounded, with a dose of witchy stuff and teen growth angst. I found the narrative voice a bit annoying, so it's not so much a rec as a "here's a sports book featuring a niche sport...." :-P

Hard read - no flinching from the horrors of war, for participants and civilians and the aftermath of "winning"

A heads up, as well as the BOMs (info in Danielle's post at the start of the thread), there will be points for participating in informal buddy reads of the three Hunger Games books. One book each month of the challenge. As with BOMs, we get 20 points for participation in the conversation, but it's much more informal, with no set questions to answer (and so no DQ points or volunteers needed!)

apart from Keli's Damascus goat aberration, theme is very clearly horns and hair!
I'm interested in the first pig to be proposed. Pigs are amazing but are also only at all attractive as younglings.

look at it's fluffy feathery head!
