oh Sammy, a while ago you were asking about books with sports theme, yes? anyway, I just read Indian Horse which foregrounds ice hockey against a Candian First Nation's life. Not an easy read, but I enjoyed it a lot. and the ice hockey was portrayed really well I thought
tee hee! anyone else got a One ---- One book? (I've read mine and don't want to reread!)Alternatively, I have
One Small Voice - ICE (though if we get Ice Planet Barbarians back we'd be in trouble!)
One Medicine: How understanding animals can save our lives - INE is less friendly though

@Ashley - I agree about your spoiler. I'm into Part 3 now (reading fast to clear it off so I can turn to the BOMs) so some spoiler tags belowD13 being controlling is understandable, but that spread too far - the idea that things can be better in one way (providing equity of food & resources etc) but still crappy (controlling movements & self-justifying dubious stuff (view spoiler) is seeded well. and followed up later with (view spoiler)

Just finished part 1, and loving Haymitch so very very much this time out. Collins is clearly enjoying filling out the character and his relationship with Katniss. and I like how Katniss is (currently) much more measured in her actions and reactions - except with Gale. but that makes sense given she sees him as a brother, and sibling squabbles are the worst!
So, I randomised, and the randomiser gods want Alyana to have good use from her membership too!next book to be sent over is The Man on the Mountaintop :)
Think we'll have to toss a coin!Is anyone excited to read one of their books? If so, we'll go with that one, otherwise I'll randomise tomorrow

I'm kind of ready to jump back into..."It'd be great if you could update them on GR now, as the cut off is early tomorrow UK time, and we'd lose them if they aren't recorded by then :(

Finished! It's all a bit of a whirlwind once they are in the arena, which makes the book pacing overall a bit odd. It's not a bad second book, but it is very much a way of getting from luxury to rebellion. Collins doesn't do a good job on making the rebellion obvious to readers even as Katniss remains oblivious!
The ending id forgotten as being that abrup

Part 2 was good for showing more of the world especially through the victors. It's interesting thinking about how Katniss is protecting so few people compared to such widespread oppression, and how she is starting to see that maybe her narrow focus isn't the only view....When the victors all stood together at the end of the interview was a powerful moment!

Part 1 done.I enjoyed that Katniss is getting better at talking to other people about her problems and concerns, but it's frustrating how dense she can be about seeing what's going on if it doesn't fit her preconceptions.
Forgotten about the Game Maker giving her that hint too!
The trauma that Katniss and Peeta are struggling with is also done well

Quick MINI Update
- we've got one wall nearly built, just waiting on Christine's #5 to finish it.
- we've another almost all planned out.
@Katie - please shout ASAP if you won't get around to reading your Virgin River #16 & #17 before 14 July!
@All - please shout if you have a #14 to finish off that wall
- the third wall is very much in bits at the moment. we are trying for another 1-8 run, and it currently looks like:
# Title Reader Date Read Series
#1
#2 A Death in the Parish Cat Canon Clement #2
#3
#4 Lost in Her LaurLa 2 Jul K2 Team #4
#5
#6 Come Home to Me Ashlee Whiskey Creek #6
#7 The Snake, the Crocodile and the Dog LaurLa 4 Jul Amelia Peabody #7
#8
#1.5 - #7.5
If you can fill in any of the blanks do say!
We've two books pencilled in for DOORS: Ashlee's Starling House and LaurLa's Funny Story, and we need two more. For this we need shelter books that another team has read, and that we can attach a link to doors. There's a list of all the shelter books read by the other teams in our planning sheet.
Finally, MPGs - not currently worried too much about those, though paranormal and literary fiction are the ones with least cover so far.
