I finally have time for this =)
1) Harry Potter: I love him, he doesn't always get the credit he deserve from the readers of the series. Most people say he is stupid or impulsive, and yes, he's impulsive, he's a Gryffindor after all, but also he's very clever, and there are multiple times it shows along the books, just pay attention ;)
2) Minerva McGonagall: The best of all teachers, she's brave and clever, I love how bold she is. "Have a biscuit Potter"
3) Hermione Granger: I felt so represented the first time I read the book with this character, I was her in school.
Also, it is surprising (to me) how many people chose Snape, I hate him, he was obsessed, he treated 11 year old kids like crap (just think that Neville's greatest fear was his teacher, that's insane!) For me Snape was just a bad person who did just one good thing in his life. I agree that he's an interesting character, though.

I'm just speculating at this point. I don't read much werewolf/d..."
I think it could work, the first Percy Jackson book has Medusa in it, I don't love that book though

But only if we have nothing else, because I prefer to read new books haha, and I coulnd't read it right now, maybe next month

Some examples under the spo..."
That too, those people must be really frustrated hahaha

Some examples under the spoiler (just in case)

There are many many more
Also, for number 7:

I'm pretty sure that in Goblet of Fire was mentioned that a person can transfigurate into an inanimate object,so maybe we can use:
Person -> Chess piece

Yai we need a rooster book now =P

I..."
We can use Basilisk (from HP 2 maybe) as dark arts and rooster for defence (we should find a book with rooster in the title though =P)

Also, for transfiguration, at least in the HP series, the two objects (the before and after) always have some similarities in form, size, etc. that's why chess piece into door doesn't make sense to me.
Some of the transfigurations seen in the series are:
Hedgehog into pincushion
Match into needle
Desk into pig
Beetles into buttons
Two rabbits into slippers
Teapot into tortoise
Owl into opera glasses
And the animagi transfigurations, any person into any animal (this should be easy to do for the challenge)
I thought of snake into rope too

Because I have one and it isn't too long, so I could read it =P
For the other "dark arts", I agree, burn for witches and maybe sun or sunlight for vampires.
And for demons, the only defences I could think of were Holy water or a Crucifix, there are books with crucifix in the title (none in my tbr =P)
Also, I was checking our official SS, and I don't get the books we put in the transfiguration class, chess piece into door?

I should be finishing one book at the end of the week.
How about Arithmancy? Are we going to complete that one soon? because finishing it will give us more points for the rest off the challenge (right?)

I think Paula had one with moon lined up too??"
Yes! It is over 400 pages too, it'd get us 9 points, I can start it as soon as I finish HP1 =)
