Ozana, Yes we call it "starting from scratch". :) They used to scratch a line in the ground for boxers or cricket players to stand on to begin their match. But now it means when you do something without extra help or a head start. When I bake a cake without using a mix I'm baking from scratch (without outside help). In this game we started from scratch (no head start) but are coming on grandly. Sorry, this may be more than you wanted to know, but I'm a fan of the English language and love learning how it developed. :)

Your plan looks amazing. Just let me know what you finish as you go along, please.

35559 We had a great week, didn't we? I was pretty sure that some of the teams ahead of us only scored that high because they had time to pre-read books - almost finishing them but saving the last chapter or so for the challenge. We didn't have time to do that. But if everyone keeps reading and contributing I think we'll find we can make a great showing!

35559 OK, the spreadsheet has been submitted. We should have 485 points this week, which is very good.

If someone wants to write questions for a different BOM we can get more points there, too. Tia has already done Harry August.

Now on to WILD STRAWBERRY!!

You can find the word count by clicking on the book title, and then in the blue box below the rating is word count...."

I didn't know you could do that, it will be handy. And the screen shot helped. Thanks!

It looks like several of the books I'll read will work. Great!

Thanks for the clarification. I'm sure some of the book I need to read will work, I'll go check them. Do I need to record somewhere that I've checked them?

ETA- Where do you find word count on AR bookfinder? I'm not seeing it.

I'll make a note of that. You haven't finished yet, right? It's not on your shelf.

Yes, that is very pink. Kind of Pepto-Bismol colored, isn't it?

35559 Is there a restriction about using children's/YA books? I'm preparing to give a talk and need to read several Newbery winners for it that I'd like to have count if they can. They are all over 100 pages.

Thanks.

35559 Tia wrote: "I'll have at least one more L to add!"

Yeah! I was hoping you might have. :)

Oh wait, I forgot I'm holding one finished book "in reserve". It will work for L so I'll add it, and with your L we'll have it spelled 4 times!!

ETA- BTW ladies, WILD STRAWBERRY is pink, not red. So keep your eyes open for books with pink covers to read this week.

Good job, Ozana! That helps a lot. Now all we need are 2 "L"s and we'd have it finished 4 times through. (Or an "L" and a "T". Or... lol)

Still we should have another good score this week. :)

35559 Tia wrote: "Wild Strawberry this week. Now that's a mouthful. =p"

I have a book named "Wild Strawberries" that I haven't read in years. Too bad we wouldn't get extra credit for that. lol

That's 14 letters, so shall we try for 3 spelling of it? That would be 42 books, which might be a stretch...
