35559 The book I'm currently listening to is about slaves from Martinique sent to Grenada to steal other slaves. It does require stealth from the two main characters. One is very stealthy. Would that work for Lord Vetinari?

35559 I was in two minds about Evelyn Hugo, but I still gave it four stars. Here's my review-
I liked this but I didn't love it. It was too obvious and Monique was grating. Evelyn was charming in that old Hollywood glamour game kind of way. However, the real strength of the novel is Reid's ability to weave a story that feels so true. I read this continually thinking about who this could be based on. Of course though, it's not based on any one person but an amalgamation of the legends of the ladies and gents of old Hollywood. Reid has a real talent for evoking the period she is writing about. She did it superbly in Daisy Jones and the Six. And she did it well here, too. However, this fails to provide as much joy, tension, or excitement.
My big problem was Monique, she was very annoying and frustrating. I thought some of the decisions she made were not in keeping with a woman of her character or, at least,
her character's intelligence and experience level. It seemed much more to be something that helped the plot.
The other letdown was the end "twist." It was obvious and anticlimactic.
Aside from that it was thoroughly enjoyable, hence the four stars.

35559 How did I miss the post about Cris getting a new puppy? I love dogs. My little guy, a Jack Russell named Womble, has made such a massive difference to my mental and emotional wellbeing. He is the best. I just wish we could have seen him as a puppy. He was 2 and a half - 3 when we got him from a resuce centre.

Also Tone, have a wonderful time in Scotland. I love that you are going on an Outlander tour. One of my fantasy ideas is to jack it all in and start a tour company based novels.

What about putting it under "lust" in the winner's tower? Does she lust after coach wilder. From the blurb, it sounds like he is forbidden fruit. So i assume she wants him pretty bad. If it works and you put it there, Lust would be complete.

35559 Have a wonderful time, Suzanne! I am jealous. I had to look up Moab, so gorgeous. It is now on my list of places to see.

Then defo use it for bright green, cos i don't think that green could get any brighter, it's luminous.

35559 Im terrible with colour covers. I just always seem to have black and grey. But spell it out works for me. After I read my way through the mod towers I've claimed, I'll hit up the spell it out.

Nanci - happy belated birthday. Glad you had a great day.

MN Lisa - I'm with Suzanne, the Thayne one defo looks bright green enough. Though I haven't popped it into tineye.

35559 Good luck on your exam tomorrow, Vi. I love hearing Dutch. It has a sing-song charm, like Swedish. Whenever I fly, I have to go through Schipol. It's always a pleasure sitting in there listening to the employees talk.

I renew them. I can do that 12 times before I have to physically take them back and retake them out. Since covid there are no fines and they're still very generous with their renewal times, pre covid there were only six renewals not 12. I once returned a book that I failed to read and instead of doing what I've been doing since covid, i returned it to the library. When I later went back to read that book it was no longer in the library system. So I've been renewing until I read them. But I need to get through them, i have 37!

I loved Naamah's Curse trilogy. And so far, I'm loving Phedre's story. Granted, I am only 100 pages in, but her writing is so beautiful, and the world so thoroughly imagined. Unless something goes terribly wrong, I think I'll be in the former category.

35559 Finished my 8th book. I am determined to get through the books I've had out from the library for years. Yes, years! I checked out Pine by Francine Toon originally in 2021. Thanks to tower teams and Eldarwen (mod tower choice) i have finally returned it to the library. It was good, not great. I don't regret having it out for so long. Toon did a great job creating atmosphere and keeping the mystery of whodunit, who's good, who's bad, etc throughout. It was very much a gothic ghost story in the traditional sense. However, it lacked tension in the climax, which in my mind should be the most dramatic, and in a thriller or horror, the most tense part of the story. And if not the most tense, then at least as tense as the rest of the story. This fell flat right at this crucial point. On to the next mod tower reads All Together Dead (Sookie Stackhouse, #7) by Charlaine Harris and Kushiel's Dart (Phèdre's Trilogy, #1) by Jacqueline Carey

35559 Congratulations, Shannon! That's brilliant. You should revel in your accomplishment and defo party as long as you can.

Kerri, it's scary spending large sums of money, but houses will do that to you. And though roofs are not that exciting, the joy is in the achievement. You're a homeowner!

35559 Suzanne, I don’t remember claiming any task for Black Wings. It is the only one of my books I left blank. My cover is a grey/purple, so it defo won't work for a black cover. I think that might have been a mix-up. I'm great with wherever you want to put it.

That one was up there for me. I love a good romcom. If you haven't read it yet, I'd also suggest The Virgin Romance Novelist. And The Flatshare, though it's more sweet than funny.
