Nice! Was just coming to tell you that you can't start it before the challenge begins, but you found your answer!
Oh shoot, sorry!https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
Totally thought I did that when we first checked in. :)
I'm excited to get started. I'll be in California that week for a work conference but will be able to check in at night. Sadly, limited reading that first week though!
Kate, reading challenges are so much fun. Really glad you stumbled across them! You are going to get addicted. And it will help you discover books you would never have read otherwise.I'm like Louise - I like to find one book to cover as many challenge tasks as I can at once. I'm in several now in this group and two others and sometimes I have to limit myself from signing up for too many!
On my eReader, I highlight the character names and then list them when I'm done.On audio, it's tougher. I try to keep track best I can but sometimes I search the book after like Jenny.
My team actually won the last Wheel-a-thon. No pressure! It all makes sense once we start playing. As long as you keep track of all of the letter options as you read, and check in as you finish your books, Louise and I will be sure to make it all work out. This is a really fun challenge and I'm excited it is back!
I have no idea what I am reading when this begins, but I'll post as we get closer to the start. I'm being a moody reader!
Alexandra wrote: "We are aware that books that start with The, A, and An don’t count the articles. So you can’t use T in the you have to use the word after if you want to use the title. Just saying."Luckily, you can use either the article or ignore it. It gives us a lot of flexibility.
As always, if the first letter of a title starts with an indefinite or definite article ('A', 'An', 'The', etc.), you may use the first letter of the second word in the title to spell out your chosen word.
I’m ok with you adding them to the shelf as you are reading them as long as we get the finish date after you are done. The date used will be the finish date, yes.
Definitely! Remember, for this challenge you can't start reading until the challenge officially begins. So those of you who are planners, set those great books aside to spell our words and wait until the countdown!
Excited to get started! For those of you who might not have played Wheel before, the spell-out portion is fairly simple. While you are reading, be sure to check for all of the letters in our word. Characters can't be a one-time mention, but they don't have to be a main character either. Think someone who has some impact to the plot in some way. List every letter you can find when you report into our "books read" thread.
For the bonus word collect, be sure to list those things, too. We can report one of each, so list everything you can and Louise and I will move it around to make it work to our best advantage.
And most importantly, let's have fun, like Louise said! Looking forward to sharing great books with you all during the challenge.
GENRESFor these "word as genres" we have alternatives you can use as follows:
Word: Can also use:
SKELETON > CLOSET
BROOMSTICK > FLYING
TOMBSTONE > GRAVEYARD
POTION > MAGIC
CANDY CORN > TREAT
JACK-O-LANTERN > VEGETABLE
COBWEB > WEB
CAULDRON > WITCH
All other genres, you need to use the word as given
You CAN use plurals
You can NOT use hypenated words (e.g. black-author does not work for black)
Where a word is already hyphenated, you can take out the hyphens (e.g. trick-or-treat you can use trickortreat)
