35559 Happy Saturday everyone! Any fun plans for the weekend? Did anyone watch the royal wedding? It was over when I woke up, but I've got the TV on now seeing the recaps and whatever's going on now.
35559 Discussion Questions - Set 2
Chapters 9-15

8. (Chapter 9 - Herta) - Herta arrives at the re-education camp and realizes that they are killing the prisoners. She also meets Fritz again, someone she knew from medical school. She says she’s going to leave because of what they are doing at the camp. Do you think she will leave?
(view spoiler)

9. (Chapter 10 - Caroline) - Paul returns to Paris, and then Hitler invades Paris. Paul gets a call in to Caroline. Do you think they will ever see each other again? How would you feel if your loved one was in the middle of a war zone?
It's hard to know - I didn't think Paul would go back to France. Knowing many people who have served in the military and have deployed to the middle east, it's not a good feeling for a loved one to be in a war zone.

10 (Chapter 11 - Kasia) - Kasia and her family are caught by the SS and sent on a train to a camp. Kasia feels bad and thinks she brought this on herself. Do you think they are arriving at the camp where Herta works? Should Kasia feel guilty about bringing this arrest on everyone?
(view spoiler) I think Kasia's actions are what led to her family being sent to the camp, but I also don't think guilt helps anything.

11. (Chapter 12 - Caroline) - Caroline takes on a top secret mission in locating all the camps - re-education and extermination. Do you think she might find Paul in one of them?
It's possible that she'll find out where he and his wife were sent. I'm guessing something will happen to bring her into contact with Herta and Kasia, and this may be what does it.

12. (Chapter 13 - Kasia) Kasia and her family are taken to the same camp where Herta works. Her math teacher is murdered in front of her and she is assigned to pull her to the pile of dead people. She must be facing such desolation and hunger. Have you ever felt this same sense of isolation, hopelessness and anger? How do you think you would handle it?
Just reading about this is making me sick to my stomach.

13. (Chapter 14 - Herta). Herta and Kasia’s mother Halina are working together now at the clinic. They seem to forming some kind of friendship. How do you think this will play out with Herta being German and Halina being German/Polish?
I don't think their friendship will end well.

14. (Chapter 15 - Caroline) Caroline finds out that Paul and Reena are on the list of prisoners in Paris. She continues to support the orphaned children in Paris by selling some of her family silver. She stands up against anti-semitism in the shop. I really like this character’s gumption and willingness to stand up for what’s right. Have you ever been in that situation? If so, what did you have to do?
I like that Caroline stood up for something she believes in. It's too bad about her obsession with Paul making it so she's not interested in fulfilling her dreams of having a husband and a baby.

35559 Hi Erika
Here is the link to the info: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/...

There will be 7 players chosen between all four Hufflepuff teams. If there is a position that you want to read for, let me know and I'll put your name on the list - I'm not sure how we'll be choosing who gets picked yet. The mods will be setting up a Common House thread for the teams to discuss, but a couple of the other Hufflepuff captains are trying to get a head start, which is where that post came from.
35559 As I'm reading these books it's so amazing how horrible some of these adults are to kids. Aunt Marge is really a trip!!! Gotta love what happened to her. And wouldn't it be fun (view spoiler)

We have to read 7 books that contain some type of celestial word in the title
35559 Yep - I guess when you can communicate by sending an owl, who needs a telephone, right? :-)

35559 Yay Erika!! If you can read 3 during this challenge that would help us a lot! Just note it when you make your completion post.
35559 Ok, this afternoon is now XD. So, I just started reading and Harry is doing his homework under his covers using a quill and ink - why is the wizard community is the dark ages, so to speak, when the muggle world has computers and conveniences?
35559 I'm getting ready to start this one later this afternoon.

35559 It looks like the classes are worth more points than the spells, other than the Unforgivable Curses, so I'm thinking we should fill those in first if we have books that fit.

Examples:
The Girl Who Takes an Eye for an Eye (Millennium, #5) by David Lagercrantz would work for Potions - Red
Love in a Nutshell (Culhane Family #1) by Janet Evanovich works for Potions - Green
Fearless (Dartmoor, #1) by Lauren Gilley would work for Care of Magical Creatures - there are dog feet on the cover

What do you guys think?

Also, does anyone read ARCs? We need 3 "to be published" books

35559 I'm still digesting what some of this means!

Any thoughts, please speak up. Some of these we need to be creative. Also, I'll update the posting requirements to include cover and if you feel your book might fit a class.
