20. Charlotte has a very bad reaction to being returned. Do you think this is normal? Why do you think she reacted so extremely?
Yep, this is totally normal. I was waiting on a reaction from her. She had finally had a little bit of normalcy and then got stuck back in what I call the crazy house.
21. Do you agree with Alexandra's decision to not pay Ned? Do you think she was right in doing this?
Ned should not have been paid. He turned on his own family for money.
22. Alexandra seems to be very affected by the events that have happened. She seems less afraid, although maybe more reactive. She also manages to go outside for a short time. Do you think it will last? Will she improve? Why?
It's going to take some time but hopefully small steps will allow her to be able to have more of an opened life which will be good for her and Charlotte.
23. The two women come up with an interesting arrangement for Charlotte and came to understand each other better in the end. Do you think that this could have happened if Bess hadn't lied?
I think the sequence of events had to happen this way for the story to play out. It helped Charlotte the most.
24. The ending had lots of happy events. Did you like it? Do you think it was realistic?
I like happy endings but I honestly thought something else was going to happen to a couple of the characters. This was a really good book.

15. Knowing how Alexandra's parents died and seeing her state of mind after being surprised by Dr. Mead, Eliza, and Charlotte in masks, has your perception of Alexandra changed in any way?
Nope, we are just finding out more answers about why she is suffering so much.
16. What do you think of Bess running away with Charlotte? Looking at her reasons do you think she is being selfish or doing what is best for Charlotte?
I don't think it was selfish. I think she truly believes that she is helping her to live better due to Alexandra's mental moments. I had a feeling all along that Bess would take Charlotte. Just didn't know when.
17. What do you think of Lyle and his willingness to help Bess escape with her daughter? Do you think he will remain in Bess's life?
I think as long as Bess doesn't get in too much trouble that Lyle will remain a factor in her life. I think Lyle truly wanted to help Bess.
18. Was anyone surprised by Ned's theft of Eliza's money or subsequent betrayal of Bess? What kind of deal do you think he made for himself in exchange for information about Bess?
Nope, he's slimy and a weasel. Wasn't shocked at all.
19. Charlotte certainly went through a lot in a short time during this section. How well do you think she handled the reality of being on the run with Bess? What do you think her reaction will be to being returned to Alexandra?
I think for her age she handled it well but I'm waiting for some outburst or some mental moments from her too. I think it's quite a shock for anyone to go from barely going outside to venturing out to an entirely different part of town. I don't know if she's going to like being back in that house all the time.

11. Do you think the author has been able to give Bess and Alexandra individual voices? Do you like books with multiple points of view?
I like the going back and forth. I feel both of them have their own voice. I have always enjoyed reading books which have different POV's.
12. What do you think ‘Eliza’ and Agnes were talking about in the kitchen? Do you think either Agnes or Maria know that Charlotte came from the Foundling home?
The servants always had juicy news to share with one another during those times. I think they could've been talking about the way Charlotte is never out of the house or anything really. I'm not sure if they know where Charlotte came from.
13. I think that Alexandra will get much worse re her fears of the outside after the mask prank. Do you think her thoughts about ‘Eliza’ will suffer because of it?
I think she's going to get much worse. I'm waiting for a breakdown to happen.
14. Do you believe that Dr Mead was telling the truth about not knowing about what happened to Alexandra’s parents? Why has he lied about who ‘Eliza’ is?
That Dr. is sneaky. He knows more than he's telling. I think he was telling part of the truth but not the whole truth. I don't know why he has lied about Eliza.

6. Were you surprised to find out Daniel had a wife? I personally was super surprised as I originally believed him when he said he was single. What do you think of the way Daniel died?
Nope, I had a feeling he had a secret life of some sort. I think that was a fairly common way of dying during those times because the medicine wasn't as advanced as it is today.
7. How do you think Alexandra Callard knew about Bess and her daughter?
Now, this I'm not sure. I'm curious to see how this plays out because she got the baby the next day.
8. What do you think of the way Alexandra and Charlotte live? Do you think Alexandra keeps Charlotte home to stop her from being recognized or because she is truly scared of the real world?
Alexandra has some scary PTSD from something. I'm looking forward to reading more about this. I don't think it's healthy for Charlotte to be stuck at home all the time but some fear is keeping Alexandra in her house.
9. "Eliza" has been fired on her first day. What do you think of Alexandra's reasoning for firing her? Do you think part of Alexandra knows that she is Charlotte's real mom?
I think her anxiety and PTSD of some sort played a part in this. I don't think she ever wanted her in her house and from the first moment wanted her out. I think someone she may know it was Charlotte's real mom but hasn't put the pieces together just yet.
10. Do you think Bess will find a way to still see her daughter? How?
Yes, Bess is going to figure out a way. I think she also will end up getting her back too.

1. How are you liking the writing style ? Are you enjoying the story so far?
I like the writing style so far. It flows very well.
2. After reading that opening scene, what do you think of the practice of the Hospital taking babies based on a lottery (the coloured balls in the bag) ?
I found it interesting concept. After learning that Bess couldn't read, I think this was probably the most fair way to do it considering the different learning classes that were around at that time.
3. At some point Bess says that "knowing she [Clara] could be anywhere instead of nowhere at all was torture even more exquisite." Implying that not knowing where her child is is worse than knowing she's dead. What's your opinion ? Or would you rather not know ?
I don't know how I would feel in her shoes. I can totally see her wanting to know where she was since she wanted to take her back one day. I think it probably would have been easier for her if she had given her away and not had the chance to have her back or learn about her until she was 18. Giving the chance to get her back whenever makes it harder for her, in my opinion.
4. What do you make of the child's father, Daniel Callard ? Everyone keeps asking Bess if he's really dead. Do you suspect there's more to Daniel than we've been told so far ?
Yes, Daniel is a mystery. I think there is tons more. Is his name even Daniel? Is he really dead? Was his family some powerful, influential family? There is definitely more to that story.
5. Time for your theories ! Who do you think claimed Clara on the 28th of November 1747, the day after Bess gave up her baby ?
I think it is someone from Daniel's world. Maybe Daniel himself or someone he knows. Someone was watching Bess and that baby and took the baby.

Anybody have any good recommendations for a book that has camping in it? I have to read a camping book this week and I'm drawing blanks over here.

Hey, yes I'm over there also. I tend to be in a lot of things so I'm playing catch up to get myself all together right now. I liked the House book also.

I read all over the board but steamy sports romances have been my things it seems like the past couple months. I've never read the Discworld books but plan on reading some during the challenge.
