Agreed Tea! I was forced to go to ebooks, there was no other way to get the books I want to read (and not all are accessible with my Amazon account). Plus library's English books collection is very small. I don't like translations either.

- It was okay, I enjoyed it enough, I liked Don and Rosie but was less invested in a particular subplot. Glad I tried it. Not planning to read the sequel in the near future.

Time to dig some longer shelved books for the mini-challenge.

Just finished the book. (view spoiler)[ I preferred the first half of the book than the second. I liked Don and Rosie, but for some kind of reason I was less invested in the Father Project. My favourite scenes were Don's attempts at dating, and the cocktail reunion party. Some random notes:
The academic ball and opening dance with Bianca: I really felt for Don. He put so much effort into it, and as a reader it was easy to feel he was lost and confused.
p. 171: When Don says that he hasn't really noticed Rosie's attractiveness because he didn't want her to feel objectified, I really wished at that moment that Rosie could read Don's thoughts because I thought it was quite considerate and romantic. (hide spoiler)] Although I'm new to the genre, I'm glad I read it.

@Rebecca: (view spoiler)[ I was a bit suspicious throughout the book because it seemed that both Claudia and Gene were aware of their open relationship but as I suspected Gene was abusing/taking a bit too much advantage of their 'agreement'. I didn't like Gene, and as much as I'm glad for Claudia for their relationship, I think it takes a lot to forgive someone as Gene for his past transgressions. (hide spoiler)]

About the comparison Sheldon/Don: (view spoiler)[ I think a major difference between Don and Sheldon is the willingness to compromise. There's clearly a difference between the Don Tillman we saw in the first half and the one in the second half. I don't really see that development in Sheldon. Btw one my favourite character in The BBT is Kripke and especially his interactions with Sheldon :) (hide spoiler)]

I read chapters 1 - 8, thoughts so far:
(view spoiler)[ I like Don, I think he's quite endearing. The speed dating was funny, the reaction of the women was quite logical, but at least Don was honest with them.

I met Rosie and I'm not yet convinced by her. I wish we could have the story from her point of view in future chapters. She's a bit like Don when it comes to social errors, Don made a remark that if he had done what Rosie did it would be perceived as 'not done'. I wonder why Don puts up with her compared to the other women who were according to his questionnaire also incompatible, I'm eager to find out.

Claudia and Gene's relationship is a bit confusing, it turns out they are in an open relationship but why does Gene lie so often and asks Don not to tell Claudia too much. And at the end of chapter 8 Claudia is worried that Don hasn't come home while the reader assumes that he's with another woman. Need more information on that.

Sidenote: I like my edition, I have this one , I don't know if it's the same with the other editions, but at the end you have part of Don's 'perfect partner' questionnaire & group reading questions- (hide spoiler)]

Yes, that passage was really gripping, especially when Don continued to count Daphne's birthdays according to the parties they were throwing.

Cynthia: re The Rosie Project - I understand, I'm a bit wary about the hype too. I can't exactly explain why but I feel pressured I should suppose to like the book.

@ Sheila: Is it the writing style? Because I'm currently reading The Raven Boys by the same author and I can't adapt to her writing style, also I'm bored most of the time. But it has been recommended to me so I should at least try to finish the book *sigh*

I have 3 library cards but since I'm living in a small town I often go to the library in the capital Brussels (you only pay membership once a year). Also, their collection of English books is much bigger and it's recently renovated so I'm in awe at all the new technology.

I'm currently reading The Raven Boys (it has been a week already) and I can't get into it, still it's a BR so I'm going to persevere. The Rosie Project and Burn for Me are next on the list.

I got a bit distracted by other books, I'm picking this back up.
