My wheel shelf: wheel 7 shelf

It's been fun! Thanks for being a great team!

Unfortun..."
Really? What are the rules then? I was just checking our shelves.

I've finished Book Lovers and the Bookwoman's Daughter. I'm trying to fit in Malibu Rising, but I may not get there as I have a few others in the mix.

18. Stealing a quote from day 4: ‘Sometimes, even when you start with the last page and you think you know everything, a books finds a way to surprise you.’ Did this book surprise you? If it did, was it in a good or a bad way?
19. Libby’s big secret surprised Nora. Was it what you expected? What are your thoughts on her keeping it secret and using the list to try to win Nora over?
20. What about Nadine and the cat? Did you appreciate this side story? How did you feel about how it played out in the novel?
22. I loved Nora’s interaction with Clint, what about you? Do you think she overstepped? Do you think it influenced the ending?
23. The ending. It is very much a Happily Ever After. Nora gets almost everything. Was it too HEA or just right and did you like it?

Chapters 21 - 28
14.) One of the most prevalent plot devices in romance books is misunderstandings being a primary driver in the conflict between MCs. I hate it because most of the issues could be resolved with one 15 minute conversation. Does this plot device annoy anyone else? Did you find it refreshing then that Nora cleared the air a bit in the library with Charles? At least before the grabby-hands started ;)
There needs to be some tension, but it can be done very poorly. I loved that Nora decided to be up front with Charles. Just wished she would have used this tactic with her sister.
15.) Were you surprised at anything revealed by Nora and Charles during their tent conversation? Did the tension with Shepard make even more sense with some backstory?
I was surprised how easily they shared. Honestly, it was a lot of emotional stuff that doesn't always come out quickly. I knew that there had to be something up with Shepard, it made more sense as you learned.
16.) Any guesses on why Libby needed a lawyer's number? Do you think it's a divorce? I'm hoping that's a red herring and it's something with their dad or a basic need like wills for her and Brendan.
I can't think of another reason, but agree about the red herring possibility.
17.) Any guesses as to what Nora will do about the editor job? Do you think Charlie will stay in his hometown, or will he make it back to NYC?
I hope she applies, it was her dream and she put so many off. Hoping Charlie makes it to NYC, it seems where they both belong.

10. Charlie and Nora make a bet that Nora can finish everything on the list but Nora is a tad doubtful but she's determined to push through for her sister. Have you ever made a bet where you're bound and determined to win but knowing deep down inside that you may be doomed from the start? (For example: If I took a bet where I had to do a tower of doom thingy at an amusement park, I'm going to need a blindfold, some alcohol, and some prayers, and not necessarily in that order!)
Haven't done any bet, but I often try to sound more confident then I am for different things.
11. We are starting to learn more about Frigid but I still want to know what the book is really about. Why do you think the cat has to stay?
I assumed a romance, but now am not sure. The cat - I have read ahead, so I kind of understand now so I won't say more.
12. Libby is a little bit of a hot/cold person. She can turn her emotions quickly and I'm not sure if all of that is due to the pregnancy. Any ideas on what has her so upset at times and why she needs to distant herself?
There definitely seems to be something going on at home. I think she is also tired of her sister's 'help' but still wants her sister around. The two sisters definitely have a pattern and I think she is trying to break it - at least what she knows of it.
13. Finally, we end this section with Nora and Charlie in Charlie's childhood bedroom. This is a two part question. One, do y'all still have bedrooms at your childhood home? Mine got repurposed after I graduated college but I always think it's interesting who still has one and who doesn't. Second, Charlie immediately sensed something had happened when he saw Nora in the room. What do you think of the progression of their friendship and do you think Nora will start to open up and lean on him more?
My bedroom is still there, sort of. My mom uses it as a craft room now but there is still a bed. She finally repainted it from the crazy color I picked out. Of course, now it is my daughters room since she would go and stay more often than me. I do think it is funny that the racecar bed didn't get changed while Charlie was in high school (or earlier). I think it was probably obvious that she was upset. She was alone in his room instead of at the party and left because she was upset. Yes, I think they will continue to open up to each other. And I do say each other, Charlie seems to be holding back some too.

There is at least one that is free with KU. There is also a former US House Representative that also authored a book or two in this genre (before election, not sure about after or if they are available on KY).

6. So, "Frigid", the book within a book being written by Dusty and edited by Charlie. Fan fiction or a brutal hatchet piece?
I'm going with fan fiction, even if a bit brutal.
7. We get more of the backstory of Nora's life. Does this history give you hope for her future as well as explain her current attitude towards love?
Absolutely. I do wonder what else there is to the story with Jakob. It sounds bad, but I still feel like I'm missing something to make it so bad. Or maybe it was just the timing.
8. Libby is at too much of a loose end - setting up a fake dating profile for Nora & everything!? What do you think this says about the sisters and their relationship?
I think they care about each other and want to help each other out. It is also probably easier to work on fixing the other than on dealing with their own issues.
9. So we've seen the failing business to be saved, been on a date to a karaoke night - are you enjoying seeing the Small-Town Romance cliches (and I loved that the song mutilated was the theme for that classic Small-Town, Second Chance Romance, Sweet Home Alabama!) being subverted?
I love that it isn't the typical small town romance. I do think that there is another business to be saved that fits Libby's background more. It isn't failing but needs someone to take over from the retirees. Just my guess.

1. The book opens up with the quote: When books are your life-or in my case, your job- you get pretty good at guessing where a story is going." Where do you think this story is going? Is this your first Emily Henry Book? Do you think it will be like any of the others if you have read them before?
I mean, Nora and Charlie are going to get together. I have a few other thoughts, but I think they came more from the later chapters. I have read 1 other book, but I don't remember much. I didn't pick it for the author but for the idea.
2. Nora feels like she is losing Libby. She begins to notice all that they no longer know about each other, from Libby getting her ex's name wrong to the moments she has missed in the children's lives. Have you ever felt this way with a family member or friend? Did you ever do anything crazy to try to force the relationship back to what it used to be? How far do you think she will go to get this back with Libby?
Friendships and relationships change all of the time. I've moved a lot, so I feel it often. I haven't done anything extreme, but I do feel like having a good 'girls/friends' outing can be a good correction when you realize that you need to prioritize relationships more and that work/other commitments distracted you for awhile.
3. Have you ever visited a place after reading about it in a book? If so, was it as you expected it to be? If you could visit any real place from a book, where would you go?
No. I can't imagine doing it quite like this either.
4. I loved the list so much and the banter between the sister over it. What is your favorite item on the list? What would you do to fulfill it?
I thought the list was funny and a bit crazy. I could wear flannel.....
5. My favorite scene so far has been when Nora sends the message " What about Bigfoot erotica? .... As soon as I hit send, I snap to my senses. Why of all the words available to me is this what I said?” What’s your favorite scene so far?
I did love (and still do) the crazy Bigfoot erotica discussions. It reminds me of the crazy discussions in the backroom BOMs.

My husband got COVID and gave it to me. Luckily we are both ok, but he got meds and recovered more quickly. I'm still trying to work from home. Bonus is that I have gotten a lot of reading in.
100s - wow! Glad it isn't that high here. Still warm, but its actually cooled down. We will hit 90s later again this week.
