35559 I would like to do this challenge!
I played NBRC Quidditch earlier this year and have been reading the HP books to my kid, so I'm in the mood. Plus, scavenger hunts are fun. And I want those sapphire coins, yo!

35559 That's probably it for me, unfortunately, as I haven't started anything else since finishing The Vine Witch and won't have much reading time before the deadline anyway.

I hope all of our MIA team members are doing okay!
Go Team Second Breakfast! And thanks Lexi for all your hard work on putting together all the interesting meals :D

35559 I was doing super well this round, until this week!
Darn real life, cramping my style. 🤪
Dec 10, 2020 04:44AM

35559 Ugh, this has not been a good “reading week” for me. I will finish my current book but that’s probably it!

35559 Not about to sign up for any big classic doorstoppers, but I did just finish another old TBR :)
Rebel of the Sands (Rebel of the Sands, #1) by Alwyn Hamilton

I know a lot of people really loved this, but (unpopular opinion time!) I thought it was pretty meh, on more than one level. Oh well!

Not sure if I will read any more old TBRs this month, so I’ll catch folks on the flip side!

35559 Round 2 complete!
#86
Dec 06, 2020 07:24PM

35559 Just finished one more that had been TBR since 2014:
Frozen Charlotte (Frozen Charlotte, #1) by Alex Bell

2.5 stars. Had a lot of potential and rang many gothic bells, but there were way too many random plot holes and inconsistencies and such for my liking. I’d be interested to see if this author improved in her subsequent books though, since parts of this were good. The overall writing here was not bad, just underdeveloped!
Dec 06, 2020 06:08PM

35559 Wow, thanks! I guess reading a longer book for Round 5 paid off! 🙂

Thanks for checking, Lexi!

Re Gunnie Rose, that's good news. I liked the setting and plot of the 2nd book but don't feel like there's been much character dev.

35559 Hey so I finished Empty Net last night, but I read a library ebook version via Overdrive, which is not searchable.
I see it’s also available on KU but I don’t currently subscribe.
Can somebody with KU check that book for local/quality/neighborhood, and let me know approximately where you find those words (assuming you do), so I can go back and check my version?
I am pretty sure I saw “local” once or twice, but forgot to write it down until it was too late. At least I got all the useable foods.
This book had mostly unusable ones though. Darn lower league fictional hockey players and their pizza, cheeseburgers, and twinkies.
