I wondered this so much as a kid reading the books! I so badly wanted to be a "wizard", but in the series females were "witches", which tend to have negative connotations in other stories moreso than wizards too. I agree with Devann that they should all just be called wizards, like we are all called muggles.

Chapters 1-2
I feel exactly the same. Thi..."
I was also curious about this, especially in wizard households, like the Weasley family. Their house is pretty much run on magic, so it always seemed odd to me that their children couldn't partake in it until they were older. Children from wizard families also would have used indirect magic, like the floo network or other daily magic used around them, so it never made sense that they couldn't continue using their skills. It made sense for Harry's case, in a muggle family, but the rule as whole for everyone never made sense to me.
There is also the scene in one of the movies (which I know isn't the same as the books), where Harry is using the Lumos spell in his room - but isn't caught for underage magic. Yet, once it happens later in the series he is automatically sent the letter of expulsion.

Completed 5/14/18
Pages 320 (Kindle Version - which I used) or 313 (for hardcover according to GR)
Spells: W, C, N for author and title. R, M, F for main characters Reeves, Milo and Flint.
Classes:
Arithmacy - 161 - 350 pages

Completed 5/13/18
176 pages
Spells: D, A, B for author. This is non-fiction, so not sure how "characters" work, but his wife's name is Xenia and is pretty much the other "main character" besides the author, so that could count for an X, if non-fiction has characters.
Classes:
Divination - This is an ARC, book release date is September 20th, 2018
My review is on Goodreads, Netgalley and my blog.
*still working on getting caught up in understanding the classes

Awesome! I just finished one last night that will be published in September, so I'll update the completed thread over my lunch break!

and

at least for some of the weekend so I can finally submit their reviews!

@Devann I think I read in another team's thread (as they were opening), that you may be able to read more shorter books, because interest is kept, and end up earning more points than the long ones overall. Which makes sense if you don't read long books often (I know I don't read over 900+ very often if ever)

I've been working on the Tulip Challenge for May and the "U" was killing me! However, I stumbled across Under the Influence by just searching my library's audiobook app with words that started with "U" (under, used, un- etc.)... and am pleasantly surprised by it! It's definitely literary fiction/contemporary, but the ending is adding some sort of thriller aspect I didn't see coming.

Dates: May 10th, 2018 - May 9th, 2019
Initial Goal: Pathfinder (11-15, based on my initial interest level in books I haven't read on the list, but hoping to find more after researching more)
