35559 Great, thanks Melissa!

Insiyah, wish I could help but I've read as much as I'm allowed.

35559 Do we have a list/spreadsheet of all the things we need to look for or types of books to have for the mini challenges? I'm overwhelmed with all the options. I would love to be able to just semi-memorize a list or at least be able to review one to make sure I don't miss anything.

35559 That happens to me all the time. I end up editing my posts and reediting them because I figure out half of what I'm asking right away and then have to check the grammar and spelling again because I always miss something. :)

35559 And I'm still cleaning up the dog poop in my yard (clean pet cage). I'm not ready for more animals! :)

35559 I just finished a sixth month challenge called Scavenger Hunt where we had to find stuff in books. It wasn't just words--we had to find actions and places, etc. It was fun but a ton of work. I like this low key version. :)

Anyway, I just posted my last book for this round. I'm sorry I didn't sign up for more. But I've been sick a lot and have a lot going on in the next couple of months and wanted to make sure I met my estimation.

35559 I'm getting a headache. Wait I already have one... :)

This sounds fun but I'll have questions, I'm sure.

Another way to find out if a word is in a book that you only have a paper copy of is to see if your library has the e-version. Check it out and do a search in Kindle or whatever. (Our library app can just open it on screen as soon as you check it out no secondary app required.)

Virtually all the books I read are ebooks or audiobooks so it's easy for me although the audiobook version I'll have to look up.

35559 Oh no, Trisha! I hope it goes okay!

35559 Great, thanks! Just marked my latest book as read. I have just one more before I reach my cap.

35559 Is there a reason why Column C is now hidden on the spreadsheet? We can't choose the status of our books without it. Hiding A and B makes more sense to me.
Oct 21, 2024 01:38AM

35559 Okay, I added them all. Most had several other options so it should help. I included the one that's being used in case you move it and want to move it again.

35559 Christine, I'll do that then.

I had to change the book I was reading because it was soooo boring. But this one is shorter. I assume I just need to change it in the spreadsheet and as long as it fits the same letter I don't need to tell you.

LMAO

35559 Got it. I noticed for some books, some people put the other places the book qualifies. Would it help for me to do that? I did it for the book I just finished, Insight. It fits several letters.

35559 Yeah, I figured that out. Good plan.

How many iterations of the words have we done so far. Is there any easy way for me to see for myself? Just curious.

35559 Thank you for moving stuff around on the spreadsheet so the next word isn't all me. I was feeling the pressure!

I have to read one out of order, though, because two people are waiting for it at the library.

35559 I love that picture!

I mostly read M/M and other genre fiction but in addition to many of the ones already mentioned (might be duplicates): Alice Walker, Amy Tan, Kathryn Stockett, Sylvia Plath, Pearl S. Buck.

Here is some genre fiction with really strong (I'd say feminist) women (obviously not M/M since they have female main characters):

Science Fiction: Connie Willis*, Elizabeth Moon, Nicola Griffith, Emily Devenport, Octavia Butler, Lois McMaster Bujold, Kage Baker
Young Adult: Tamora Pierce, Madeleine L'Engle, Helen Hoover, Jane Yolen, Patricia Wrede, Ellen Raskin, L.M. Montgomery, Laura Ingalls Wilder
Urban Fantasy: Kelly Meding, Seanan McGuire, Ilona Andrews, Stacia Kane, Meljean Brook, Laura Bickle, Diana Pharaoh Francis, Kelly Gay, Carrie Vaughn
Mystery: Virginia Lanier, Nevada Barr, Kelley Armstrong, Carol Lea Benjamin, Dana Stabenow, Sue Henry, Donna Ball

Thank you for the kind thoughts about my stupid knee.

Hmm, I don't think it's the same. He's defined by his own role as a husband or a father. "The wife's secret" is her being defined by her own role not by her husband's job or whatever. If it was "the doctor's husband" then he's defined by the female.

But that's a good idea to do a search so I will.

Criminy. I don't have the attention span.

35559 So the question I have is a general one. The Tiger's Wife that Stormie is going to read looks really good and something I would be interested in. But I've kind of been boycotting books with titles that are "The xxx's Wife" because there are so many and I don't know any that have the same format with "husband" instead. I don't like it when women are described in terms of their husbands. (This sounds different since it sounds like it's from The Jungle Book. It just got me thinking.) Have any of you seen any book title like this with "husband" that's fairly mainstream, like that you'd find in a bookstore?

35559 I also am really OCD about things like that and as I said, I love spreadsheets, so if I see something without a link, I usually will put it in. (I fix formatting issues, too.) Feel free to leave it for me to do. It gives me something to do. I actually was in the process of putting one in when I came here to ask a question. I missed the first iterations of the words though. Oops. :)

My life right now is super boring. I sprained my knee and found out that I have pretty much no cartilage left in the joint and the meniscus is breaking. I can't drive because the sprain hasn't healed either. I can barely walk up and down the stairs. I'm getting knee injections starting next week. It happened July 9 and with bureaucracy (three different referrals) I'm only now getting it done. Sigh. But I'm super excited!
