33903 It does sound good Minuska. I have not read anything by Angela Knight but now I am tempted. Any recomendation where to start?

33903 Nice choice Cheri. I read Outlander a couple of years ago and wasn't blown away, but after the series and all I am intrigued to give it another shot...

I'll read The Lies of Locke Lamora (Gentleman Bastard, #1) by Scott Lynch for 'Series to Start' shelf.

33903 I'm so glad you loved The Deal Cheri. I liked it for the same reasons as you.
I have read the books for all shelves. I just need to check which reviews I didn't write. I'll post then by the end of the week.

33903 I was wondering the same thing Cheri. I hope everything is ok with Skandia.

The Deal is a great pick Cheri. One of my favorite contemporary romances. I think I re-read it at least 5 or 6 times. :)

I will read Archangel's Blade (Guild Hunter, #4) by Nalini Singh for Favorite Series shelf.

33903 Week 6: Sci-Fi Romance
Fortune's Pawn (Paradox, #1) by Rachel Bach
Book: Fortune's Pawn (Paradox, #1)
Date read: 10. May 2016.
Rating: 5 stars

Fortune's Pawn kept popping up on my friends favorites shelf. And always with a 5-star rating. So, the curiosity got the better of me (although I have a ton of started series) and I gave it a try...

LIKES:

Main character I adored. How many novels are there where everything was perfect except annoying heroine? Don't you hate it when that happens? This time, Devi and I instantly clicked! Why did I like Devi? She was:
+ Mature
+ Ambitious and workaholic
+ Independent
+ Confident
+ Suicidally brave. (You'll know what am I talking about after her first battle scene.)
+ Not very subtle.
+ Gives names to her weapons.

Battle armor. A machine that slides over my body and makes me superhuman? Yes please, where can I sign in? I love watching movies with these kind of technology and reading about mech-suits was as much fun.

Action scenes that are so intense, I am blaming it for my much shorter nails. Also, it is tough to put down. I have read Fortune's Pawn in a day.

Mysteries that kept me reading. And just enough was left unresolved to make it interesting.

Awesome hero/romance interest that should be duplicated and spread to other novels. He's a perfect mix of thoughtful, domineering, cute, kick-ass and mysterious.

Interesting non-humanoid aliens. Rachel Bach really used her imagination and we have alien species that are completely different from our culture. So refreshing!

DISLIKES:

Too much talk about Devi's awesome suit and weapons. You know how it is when a kid gets a new toy and can't stop talking about it? Devi is like that all the time. But since the story is told from first person POV, although annoying, her constant chatter about these topics was realistic. Those are her interest after all.

Fortune's Pawn was a perfect sf action with a small dose of romance. I loved all the characters and can't wait to read the next book. Recommended!

33903 It happens to everyone who read ebooks. I always forget to check the page number when buying. So it's usually after I am reading for a while and can't reach 10% mark that I go and check and then go WTF... :D

Wow Minuska you really nailed this shelf. I think we should get double points or some honorary badge for the amount of pages read. ;)

Haha I love him too, even as secondary character. I hope he appears in One Grave at a Time (so far no luck) :)

Ditto.
I am trying to download less freebies this year. So far, I'm not bad, but I am afraid I am going to make up for it by the end of the year. As Val said, that button is hard to resist...

Well I read the rest of Night Huntress series. I like them, they are fun. :) I also read The Beautiful Ashes which was similar and I liked it also.
I plan to 'attack' the books about Vlad next. Have you read them? Are they good too?

For me it was. Glass Sword tried to be more 'serious' & mature, but only got boring. No memorable events or characters. Mare keeps making same mistakes... :/

33903 'Red Queen' definitely has all the bad sides you pointed out Cheri. I enjoyed it as fun read (can't resist arena fights and makeovers), but the sequel really turned me off from the series.

33903 Hey darling, sorry I am late. For sci-fi romance I will read: Fortune's Pawn (Paradox, #1) by Rachel Bach .
