The heat was already almost unbearable, and she made her way to Victoria, untying her bindings. She thought about trying to reassure her but remembered Victoria couldn't hear and for that matter SHE couldn't SPEAK. So she settled for giving her friend a quick squeeze on her hand to notify her that she was not a danger, and guided her as best she could through the burning wood.
Hikari stumbled out of the shack, losing her footing multiple times as she was carrying Tomatsu in her arms. 'Thank you, Toma-kun. If not for you...we surely would've died...'

Laurel nodded, a smirk on her face. "It's getting late though, we can worry about our sisters tomorrow. Tonight, we need to sleep."

Shana is actually Shandalia, the "partner" of Kalrik, the queen of the dead. There was some imbalance in the world between dead and alive ppl, too many were dying, so someone had to be sent to find out and save them. but the council of the dead was scared. none of them had particularly good lives and they didnt want to live again, they wanted to rest in peace. finally, shandalia stood up and decided to go herself. of course this freaked out kalrik since u kno...they were lovers :D so...she said that he could break some rules for the sake of the world and visit her, check up on her and make sure she was ok. but when she was born again, she forgot everything about him, and she knew this going into this situation, but he couldn't tell her, or the world would never be saved. so he loved her from afar, and protected her by sending her images of the future. so technically no matter what laurel does, her sister wont be cured, because its the effect of being reborn like that, dying slowly and painfully. so kalrik is trying to do everything he can for her, to make it easier on her. so when theres some down time i'll have their lovely scene together :) and thats y he calls her shandalia, not shana. because thats how he knew her, for forever. so... :3 yep ^-^

She fumbled with her pocket, drawing hastily, quickly, watching the tiger approach. When she was halfway done, she saw the creature lunge at her, and screamed. But after a few seconds, she realized she wasn't dead, and glanced back up to see a man in Samurai armor, his back to her. 'Oh. My. God. I'm dead,' she thought, practically fainting on queue.
The Samurai turned, holding her sword, but that didn't scare Hikari one bit. What truly freaked her out was his face, or better yet, his lack of one.
She stared for what felt like an hour at the empty eye sockets and crooked, rotten teeth, flushing deep red. 'So not like the princes in the movies...'
Then something grabbed her from behind, and she jumped, finding Tomatsu going through her pocket, finding her sketch pad. "Hurry," he commanded, placing the pencil and paper in her hands. "Draw something that will get us out of this."
But Hikari couldn't move a muscle. She just stared at his red eyes, knowing that this wasn't normal, that something was seriously wrong with this picture. Every instinct in her told her to flee the scene, just run out the door screaming like a helpless princess.
Tomatsu stared back at her. "What are you doing? DRAW!"
Hikari looked down at the paper, trying to think of something, anything, but came up blank. "I-I don't know what to draw..."
Tomatsu groaned. "Just think of SOMETHING. I can't raise this guy for much longer. And you can thank me later by the way."
Hikari stared at the Samurai, transfixed. His armor was just like that of the famous Japanese generals. And if his face wasn't so...empty, she might have actually gone for a guy like him.
Tomatsu shook her shoulders. "What are you DOING? Now's not the time to be spacing out. Just draw like a tank or something and start shooting!"
Hikari looked over at Shana and Victoria. "But...they'd get hurt too."
Tomatsu glanced over at the two girls, for the first time even noticing they were there. 'They're so quiet...' And then his eyes were fixed on Shana, because he'd seen that girl before, in ancient texts. 'No way...that can't be her, I must be mistaken...She can't be...the girl that raised herself from the dead through sheer willpower, reincarnated to stop the world from a horrible disaster? That...that can't be possible. How can she be playing hero when she's tied up like that, looking half-dead?'
But then the Samurai spoke. "It 'tis her, the one you're looking for. Hear her command, her power is dwindling."
Shana stared at the Samurai, and she knew what to do. She pushed with all her power everything she wanted to say, knowing only a few words might come out.
There was silence except for the growl of Rosa-tiger and the scraping of claws against the wood.
"Fire," the dead Samurai finally said. "Draw a fire Hikari. And don't blame Laurel for what happened."
Tomatsu stared at Shana, now he was transfixed. 'She...overrode my commands...it really is her...' But then a shock came back at him, a rebound from the netherworld, and he fell to the ground in pain, the Samurai that had saved them returning to ashes.
"TOMATSU-KUN!" Hikari screamed, kneeling by his side.
"DRAW!" he whimper-screamed, struggling to find Shana, to give her a look that meant "why the hell did you do that?". But when his eyes laid on her, her expression held nothing but sympathy and he groaned, passing out.
Hikari stared at the now unconscious boy. 'Draw...draw. Draw what..?' Then she remembered. 'Oh...a fire. That's what I draw.' She barely had the first flame drawn when the tiger charged towards her.
Shana looked alarmed, struggling against her restraints. 'I have to do something...' And then she saw him, Kalrik, he'd spoken through the dead man, she knew. 'He...' And she simply stared at him as he stared at the little boy.
"You used too much power, Shandalia. You almost killed him." He glanced over at her, and she noticed that he no longer had his hood covering his features, and he was actually kind of cute, except for a scar running from his brow to his hairline. His spiky black hair hid it mostly though, and his blue eyes seemed to stare into her soul.
'You...YOU'RE KALRIK?' She couldn't believe what she was seeing, he barely seemed any older than her.
He flashed her a brilliant smile. "A reaction to be expected of you..." And then he was gone.
Laurel laughed, thinking of Hikari's first drawings: her little cat that turned out to have a messed up eye, her version of Mickey Mouse that looked more like a ghost mouse. "It's okay...I had a friend that used to say things like that..." She drew a pattern in the sand at her feet. "Her name was Hikari...but I don't know where she is now..." She felt the tears coming, the pain she felt that day, and blinked them away. "She was always really funny, like a little sister."

Only when Rosa turned and Hikari saw her deadly expression did the scene rapidly change.
Within a second, Hikari's sketchbook was in her hand, revealing a past of rope drawing to sneak out of the house at night. She remembered each of those nights when she went to sit on the roof of the museum, clearing her thoughts, remembering the days she knew she was better off forgetting. And now, all that was in front of her, in the form of a helpless little girl.
She remembered how Laurel had left her that night, called her a baby, helpless, childish. She felt her fingers twitch as she wanted to punch something, and maybe she would've punched her former best friend if it hadn't been for the obvious emotional punch her words had made.
Quickly, Hikari drew a katana like she'd seen in the history museum on a school trip, handling it with ease. Locking eyes with Rosa, she charged towards her opponent, tucking her sketch pad and her pencil back safely in her pocket.
Laurel's eyes widened. "You do?" She thought for a second, wondering if Lorelei was lying to her like so many others had all her life. 'No...I think I should trust her. She seems like a good person that many people have hurt in her lifetime...' She remembered the way Lorelei and Victoria interacted, and she instantly thought of Shana. Smiling, she answered, "Then let's get to it."
