3113 I believe the treetop/teatree service is a site used by small independent bookstores, From what I understand it is an ordering site, they add all the orders from their clients together (so you get a mass market discount, like B&N) even if you are only getting a couple of books. Because Teatree/treetop is ordering thousands.

I'm sure you know more about the industry then I do, and certainly more about your particular micro market, I am just suggesting something that saved the bookstore my wife works at.

3113 Bambo: I landed a good one... Yes I did. The trick wasn't getting her, the trick was keeping her;)

Petra: Well if you ever think about expanding without increasing your work load or cost look into treetop... teatree... I don't recall what exactly it is called but something to that affect.

3113 Sherri: Whats an LJ account? That might be something to talk to her about.

RA: That is the plan my man; that IS the plan.

Petra: you may also want to talk to the wiff, she is a book buyer of a local independent bookstore, and she set them up for on-line direct to customer sales. Saved the bookstore after barns&noble moved into town.

3113 My wife sat down on the couch next to me as I was flipping channels, a couple of weeks ago. She asked, "What's on TV?"

I said, "Dust."

And then the fight started...

I knew my wife had been working on her website for some time now. Well today I accidentally hit the bookmark, amid my cussing, I was startled to see there was actually content on the page, and it is almost current. {:-o So I am glad that she is making ground to achieve her dreams.

3113 Al Capone: "You can get more from life with a kind word and a gun; then you can with just a kind word."

Cool beans. The wife just got news yesterday that her book is being delayed indefinitely :-/ I guess my retirement will have to wait... indefinitely.

3113 I am both for and against mandatory military/civil service. I am for it because it will give everyone a look into the work it takes to keep this country going, and to take part in the work we do world wide. I am against it because compulsion is not good, no matter how it is packaged. With our military it is the power house it is because it is voluntary. The only time that voluntary status was messed with military morale plummeted and it was an all over mess. A small dedicated force beats a large unmotivated force any day of the week. Think the Russian military against the Germans in WWII Stalingrad. True they ultimately won, but did they really?

3113 An Alabama preacher said to his congregation, "Someone in this
congregation has spread a rumor that I belong to the Ku Klux Klan. This is a
horrible lie and one which a Christian community cannot tolerate. I am
embarrassed and do not intend to accept this.

Now, I want the party who did this to stand and ask forgiveness from God and
this Christian Family."

No one moved. The preacher continued, "Do you have the nerve to face me
and admit this is a falsehood? Remember, you will be forgiven and in your heart
you will feel glory. Now stand and confess your transgression."

Again all was quiet.

Then slowly, a drop-dead gorgeous blonde with a body that would stop traffic
rose from the third pew. Her head was bowed and her voice quivered as she
spoke, "Reverend there has been a terrible misunderstanding.

I never said you were a member of the Ku Klux Klan. I simply told a couple of
my friends that you were a wizard under the sheets."

The preacher fell to his knees, his wife fainted, and the congregation roared.

3113 CREDITS! I think credits can be a big step in the right direction. If you are on a "news" network, or other news media at the beginning of the show you have to state in plain English that you are a commentator and not a journalist. At the end of the show you have credits displaying the sources of your information, not the effn sound guy, or camera man. Credits instead of a segways to the next opinionated commentator with an agenda. a baby step sure, but a step. Also make a class difference, journalist commentator, political propagandist. Sure I think their careers would be short if they admitted what they are , but then maybe they will get the point. grouping them all together and calling them the press; gives us what we have today.
Oct 17, 2008 10:01PM

3113 I dunno... make the "journalist" responsible for their actions. If you have a journalist caught several times making bogus/disingenuous stories then they should get the chop. If their employer keeps them on then they need repercussions also. A way to "keep it real' could be to cut the government out of the suit process. Private groups or citizens can file a complaint to start the investigation process. Maybe something more to stop political hit jobs... but really does it matter they already use the media for that.

All I know is it is fucked when you can start to read an article, on just about anything, and know a wing nut wrote this or a lefty wrote this. News articles are supposed to be non-bias and fact based. For about the last decade it has been opinion sold as fact. That is not freedom of speech that is freedom to push propaganda.

Even as I re-read this I know it is a beast bigger then I am currently able to think of a solution for… give it time. Just because I don’t have a solution doesn’t mean it doesn’t need to be corrected. I trust no information I get. I have to bounce everything I hear off of my life experience, and see if it A) makes plausible since B) fits the situation C) can be in anyway, even if remote, fit into a party slogan. Only then can I make a decision. I don’t know about you but I do not have the time in a day to spend researching every important issue that comes up, it should be a 40+ hour a week job… Oh that’s right there is a job like that; it’s called journalism. Their just not doing it.

3113 1) Education: I think the state of our education system is completely un-acceptable. We spend more money per student then any other country. Where are the results? From time to time I have skimmed through some threads on goodreads where education has been the topic. I have never read anything that answers the question. I hear about allot of programs but still I see no results.

I have a program idea. Extend the school year, do away with 2 ½ months of vacation. If a kid fails the kid failed stop worrying about the kids feelings. They stay right where they are until the knowledge is ingrained in their head. If this means added class room hours after school with a focus on the kid’s weakness then ok so be it. Standardize education is a major step in the right direction. I believe (and am totally open to the possibility of being wrong) that the reason our education system is set up the way it is, is because long ago when the system was structured different parts of the country had different requirements i.e. aquaculture, industrial. So the curriculum was geared toward knowledge needed on a geographical standard. I don’t think I articulated that well. At any rate it is out dated. A tune up won’t work we need to engineer a new system. This new system needs to have a couple of things. No religious / political / ideological pandering. You go to school (K-12) to learn fact, not your teacher’s idea of what should be.

2) Energy: All of the crap and hype really needs to go away. It is counter productive and destructive, and incredibly expensive. What in the hell is Nick talking about?
I am talking about the environmental fanatics out there that have scared the leadership of this country and companies world wide into wasting money on band-aids when they should be focusing on reality.
A) Bio-fuels: Will never be viable. NEVER. They are local at best; it just takes too much energy to produce to gain anything by transporting it. Still admits spent carbon. This isn’t even a band-aid; it’s just an expensive hoax.
B) Hybrids: These are an economical band-aid. Suitable to meet our needs while we set up the real fix. Now if they could just make one that doesn’t look ridiculous.
C) Wind, solar: neither one of these produce enough to take the base load. That doesn’t mean don’t do it, it just means be realistic about what it will be able to achieve. Solar has great potential once the “space elevator” is constructed. I know that sounds sci-fi but believe me it is a reality. The US and Japan are working very hard on making it a reality. Come on nano tubes!

I think I will stop here for now, I appear to be stuck on long winded mode. Sorry. I’ll burn my soap box before I return, then I’ll keep the rest short and sweet.

3) Defense
4) Research and development
5) Financial restructuring (taxes, regulations on financial institutions that have an influence on the national economy
6) Nation wide infrastructure (modernize and improve)
7) Take a hatchet to the media and the new standard of publicizing everything, thus spinning public opinion which ever way “they” want to, regardless of the outcome.
8) Judicial system
9) Term limits for all elect able offices, public transparency of the bureaucrats placed by an elected official.
10) Return to nationalism
