He started for the Inn, then noticed the sign hanging above the door. He knew he was in the right place because the sign, with the face of an older women etched in wood screamed the family resemblance. Then right below it, a smaller sign swung in the breeze. Welcome to the Inn of the Four I's.Aye, this is the place, alright.
Calum decided he'd best take the directions and get whilst the getting was good."Oye, see ya later," he called over his shoulder as he ran off into the woods.
Calum looked at the boy as though he'd grown a fourth eye. Then he blinked, "Well, bugger me! You've got four eyes!"
After studying the map the directions, he asked, "Oye, and ye's jus' goin' t' let me walk out here, jus' like tha'?"The boy looked at Calum as though he'd grown a third eye. "Huh?"
The boy's eyed widened. "Oye, aren't ye goin' to read it? How'll you find the princess if you don't look at it? How'll ye know which direction to take?"
The boy reached into his pocket and pulled forth a piece of parchment that had been folded again and again. He pressed it into Calum's hand and leaned in close, whispering, "That be's directions to the princess. Iffin ye tell her that Killy sent you, she'll know what to do."
Yeah... it always confuses me. I think of "effect" like the "effects" of a drug, but with "affect" I think of how something "affected" someone.
What's the rule, Lisa Kay? How can I be sure which to use. I'm always embarrassed when I have to use one of those two words because I'm never sure.
Calum thought that maybe because he wasn't there when the spell was cast, it didn't effect (affect?) him.
"It's an old hag holdin' us. She's got Hansel trussed up like a thanksgiving turkey ready to cook him for supper! There's no security other than a spell around the cottage."
"We were jus' tryin' to get you away from the cottage so we could tell you of our plight!"Calum realized then that it was no wonder they weren't very good at the game, they weren't really playing.
"Hey, wait up," the boy shouted. When he reached Calum he said, "I have a message for you to carry to the princess... we need your help! We're all being held prisoner!!!"
