After finding 2 more of the hiding children, he ventured into the woods looking for others."Psssssst, over here..." he heard the oldest boy call.
"Eeeeek," the girl squealed, then before Calum knew what she was about, she ran between his legs to the "safe" tree and tagged it."HA!" She said, then stuck out her tongue.
Calum turned quickly and easily spotted the youngest girl, a wee little one with braided red hair who was giggling so hard that even if the branches weren't shaking along with her body, which they were, he could have heard her from across the valley. Quietly he approached, sneaking up behind her and tapping her on the shoulder.
Calum decided just a game or two wouldn't hurt none, so he turned around and hid his face in his folded arms, pressed against a tree."One, Two, Three...." he counted.
But what if they were to try and tie him up again, or worse, make him eat Hansel? He was torn about what to do!
"YAY," the children shouted, scurrying off to hide."Wait, ye'r sposed to tell me to hide first!"
"That's no fun! We like hidin' best!" The oldest boy shouted as he ran down a steep hill.
Realizing that these children were very clever, Calum didn't want them to think he was setting them up, giving him a chance to escape. Using backward brain thinking, he said, "You hide first!"
Wait.. I have to read something? I... ummm... I thought... just kidding! I'll do my darnedest not to screw it up!
Calum glared at the boy through narrowed eyes. "I don't know who this Penelope Pisstop is, but I don't like the sound of that game."The children giggled.
"Tell ye's what," Calum began, "come over and cut off these ropes so I can get up, and I'll grant ye's 3 wishes."
He tried to loosen the ropes binding him, to no avail. Looking around he realized that just to his left was a small cottage, overgrown with ivy. He struggled some more then yelled, "'ello!!!"
Just when he thought he'd pass out, he saw a vision before him, a beautiful fair maiden, more lovely than anyone or anything he'd e'r seen before. She stood before him, naked, long auburn hair blowing gently in the breeze, and his last thought before his world faded to black was, "Hey, I'd know that ankle anywhere."
"So, ye'r eyes are set on true love, 'er they? Come closer then, and I'll show you the whom ye'r to mate with." Her voice was a rough sounding as the skin on her face looked, and it made Calum shudder, but he approached and looked into the boiling cauldron of crystal clear water that she pointed to.
