Finally, he reached the spot and discovered that the stars weren't stars at all but a flock of migrating fireflies that he'd followed for miles. It was then he finally accepted that he should have listened to his beloved mum when she'd been nagging him to eat his carrots. With a sigh he said, "Oye."
Jumping up, he grabbed his satchel and took off running in the direction of the falling stars that were more shooting than falling.
Another night under the moon and stars.Lying back on a pile of leaves and pine needles, Calum watched as star after star shot through the sky, heading towards earth. Except that they were all coming down, one after another, all in the same direction.
Early the next morning, Calum headed towards a village called "The X On the Map," hoping to finally find this princess.
Recalling his days as a youth, fishing with his father, Calum decided eel fricassee would make a delicious lunch.
"Rub-a-dub-dub-" he began singing, then shouted, "OYE!!" when he felt something slither against his shins.
After settling himself on his pallet beside a warm fire, Calum's stomach growled reminding him that he hadn't eaten at all that since that morning.
He started questioning if perhaps he had a favorable disposition towards ankles in general, or only those of one craggy faced lady who he couldn't seem to forget.
Or so the note said, but so strange had things been lately, Calum wouldn't be surprised if that hadn't turned out to be true, too.
Calum didn't want to watch any longer - those eyes were staring at him, he was sure of it, so when the serving wench brought his sup, he turned his back to the witch and the troll and ate as quickly as possible.
