How important is the first impressions of the hero and heroine? I've read a few where the first impression was really bad and the hero or heroine seemed doomed from the first. But the authors manage to change those impressions in the course of the story. So what are your thoughts?
I have a few contenders this month.Joker/Carson Steele from Ride Steady. He stops and helps a woman change her tire on the side of the highway. That woman was once his high school crush. But he never got the opportunity to let her know. Now he finds she has trouble and he wants to keep trouble away from her. Such a sweet feller disguised as a baddie biker.
Also Captain James Trevillion from Dearest Rogue. He is hired to protect Lady Phoebe Batten. He knows his place. But Lady Phoebe wants his place to be closer. Our captain is willing to go beyond the call of duty to protect his lady.
Hard to pick just one! Rancher Jack West from Soul Deep also gets an honorable mention. He is an older hero (age 63) but he can definitely keep up with the younger guys!
I think a large number of authors felt the jerky hero was essential back in the 80s but while we still get a few they are being replaced by nicer and more considerate heroes. Most of the jerky heroes I can't stand but there are a few that managed to steal my heart. Its all in how they redeem themselves.Ross Coleman of Sunset Embrace was a jerk but I can understand to a degree the circumstances that caused his jerkiness. Warrick from Prisoner of My Desire also had good reasons. Then there are the ones that are simply abusive and never truly redeem themselves in my opinion.
Former Navy SEAL Joe Harris from Midnight Secrets by Lisa Marie Rice. Joe is recuperating from injuries sustained while a Navy SEAL. Next door neighbor brings him food and when he realizes that she is recuperating herself he steps up to the plate. Another possessive protective alpha that makes you wanna swoon.
Okay, characters I'd fall for in Real Life! This is hard because I have a slew of heroes I adore but how would I like them in real life? Most of them are the uber alphas and I have to be honest and say I'd probably not be too fond of them. I'm a mellow person but I hate for guys to tell me what to do like most women. So I had to weed out the worst of the bunch and I came up with a few heroes.Jax Cullen or just about any of the heroes in Jill Shalvis' Lucky Harbor series.
Zach McBride from Breaking Point
Matt Sanders from Pursuit
Benedict Bridgerton from An Offer From a Gentleman
Winter Makepeace from Thief of Shadows
Carter McCoy and Atticus Finch from Danielle's list would be in the running too.
Probably have a bunch more but...

Simon Hunter from [book:Secrets of a Summer Night|..."
Hmmm, good list and some of those would be high on my list. Got to think on this one.
FBI Special Agent, Matt Lazlo, former Navy SEAL of Cold Light of Day
Another one of those awesome guys who step up to the plate to protect their gal. Even if they aren't technically theirs yet.
