27776 I may still read them. I read The Odyssey in high school, but not since then. I probably have 3 copies of them lying around the house.

I wanted to read them before Clash of the Titans comes out, but I probably won't get the chance. So many books... oh, so many books.

27776 a: if you have permission to be on, that's cool. You can get on during Bit if you're not sneaking on. I'll ask Mrs. Robinson about it.

@Drew: Obviously students are allowed to get on sometimes during school. Think about it, we get on during CAP sometimes. We just need permission. I have a computer in my classroom, so I just keep mine up. It serves a number of purposes - there are times students need to take AR tests and can't remember the name of the book, goodreads is a quick seach; I can look up titles for students when they ask (if they ask at an appropriate time); I can also monitor when students are on during the day. Usually I don't say too much about this because I don't want the few to ruin it for everyone who isn't abusing the site - but once the attention is drawn, I'll add in my two cents. So, I'm not trying to flaunt it or throw it in your face, but of course the dharma of the teacher caste is different from the dharma of the student caste. I figured you knew that. : )

If you made it this far Kelsey, this is how you add a status update. On the right hand side of your goodreads page under the spot where it tells what you are currently reading (you know, where you put "Kelsey is on page 2993 of 99888938872 in The Hunger Games") Instead of adding a page update on your books, you can pull down the arrow and "add a general status update." I hope that helps.

27776 Yeah. You can't get on during school, or they will block it and then we won't be able to use it during CAP. Don't ruin it for everyone.

27776 I was never an N'Sync fan, but I'll put him on the list.
JIMMY! (15 new)
Mar 15, 2010 03:49PM

27776 Or, what if Jimmy is actually like... 100 years old, and he's written several books - and he's going back to school in order to research the book he's currently writing...

Is THAT the case Jimmy?
Mar 13, 2010 07:15AM

27776 Yeah, like we can really tell you... you'll find out soon enough, right? (Unless the author doesn't say, in which case none of us know... but we all have our guesses...)
Mar 13, 2010 07:12AM

27776 Yeah, we're reading Shooting an Elephant and Other Essays by George Orwell right now for my book club. The next book we pick is supposed to be a biography, autobiography, or memior... I'll probably pick that one. Although, I may pick one on William Lloyd Garrison, Benjamin Franklin, Frederick Douglass, or Joe Paterno... ...Gandhi's topping the list though.

27776 Ok, so my parents were down at my sister's house in Georgia and they were looking at this book, Fear in Algeria. They read the back of the book and saw that the author taught at... get this... West Side Elementary School, Elkhart Indiana. The author lives in Goshen.

Crazy, huh?

Crazier still, I clicked on the book and put it on my, "to-read" list and when it comes up, there's a second author listed. That author's name is... James Converse.

So, I thought to myself... Converse isn't all THAT common of a last name. And to have more than one James Converse in this area... strange... and two separate generations... So Jimmy, here's the question: Are you related?
Ender's Game (3 new)
Mar 11, 2010 05:43PM

27776 I just started Ender's Game today, and it's pretty good. From what I hear it was the first computer-game/fanatsy book of it's kind and it was really influential. I see how The Maze Runner has taken from it, and The Matrix. Maybe even some other YA/Adult dystopic lit.

Has anybody else read it?
Mar 11, 2010 05:30PM

27776 i got a BILLION extra!
Mar 10, 2010 04:02PM

27776 grading Gandhi papers.
Mar 06, 2010 10:41AM

27776 Yeah... I guess the ISTEP doesn't count. You should be allowed to get unlimited AR points just for taking it...
Mar 05, 2010 08:31PM

27776 hmmm... this couldn't wait until Monday?

I just want to say that I did a GREAT job of staying off goodreads and actually reading tonight. I read a TON! I basically read the entire book Mr. Cowells gave me. It was pretty sweet. There were a lot of Mahouts in it. : )
Mar 04, 2010 05:16PM

27776 I had pizza for dinner last night and for lunch today... I could eat it again tonight. : )

And no, we're not getting announced. But we will. : )

There's a big tourney coming up too. A good one to go to. I'm going to try to get info passed out tomorrow.
Feb 28, 2010 03:57PM

27776 i think it depends when you read this... when i first read it, i had just eaten a Big Wally Burger, a Tenderloin, a large fry, and a side of cole slaw - followed by a cookie.... needless to say food was the last thing on my mind...

Now though? I'm STARVING.

Feb 28, 2010 03:55PM

27776 Huh... I'll have to check that out tomorrow.

How do you think Thisbe's life is going to be? I bet there's a chance that she could have a pretty wacked out life too, you know? She's too young to understand it now, but later on down the road she may end up having issues.

Who knows? Maybe she'll be well adjusted...
