the difficult 2nd album that the majority think is their best (certainly up there), sees p.u. subvert pop music into POP MUSIC - forged (and are still forging) their own path singlemindedly - some might say bloodymindedly! again, with a killer opener.

quite simply, a piece of brilliance both for effect and content, possibly the greatest opening track on any album anywhere, and it's not even the best track on show - that would be the haunting and belligerent 'laughing'. special album, again i've gone for david thomas's (2015) re-mix and master. 'dub housing' will follow.

it's universally known that clapton is an awful human being..........
"“Confirms everything I’ve ever thought about Clapton, a musician who has spent his entire career appropriating black music and now records his first ‘protest’ song against meager restrictions to slow a disease that is ravaging black communities.”"
...nuff said
as for van morrissey, he's just a selfish old uncaring bastid, whom i suspect has early onset dementia. at least that would be an excuse for the appalling content of lyrics i have seen on his latest record. y'all know i can't stomach him anyway, but looks like a new level of astonishing selfishness has been reached, and look who he's hanging around with!
also an awful human being

pere ubu have very conveniently grouped their back catalogue into 5 distinct periods - historical era/fontana years/modern era/orange period/the dark room - at the time, the modern era came and went without much in the way of interference from me, so about time then,
listening to 'raygun suitcase'
"The album now exists in three forms. The regular release from 1995 and a "Director's Cut" from 2005. The latter includes remixed tracks and different takes, and also two bonus tracks not available on the original release. A third version was released in 2018 by Fire Records, featuring a 2016 remix and all tracks edited to shorter lengths, with three tracks discarded altogether"
i've gone for the latest, as david thomas indicates the best audio versions are from fire records, and it's been recently re-mixed/mastered by mr thomas.
i have 'pennsylvania' and 'st.arkansas', subject to the same david thomas treatments, on pre-order, but i think for now, i'll leave 'why i hate women' and 'why i remix women' as i suspect they will be next up for enhancement. if mr thomas survives to do it, that is.

available to pre-order thru' blandcamp, but i ain't paying the £16 postage from the u.s.

ubu also run a ubuprojex page on blandcamp, this is more concerned with 'live' releases in download form - the intention is to put up recordings from every year they tour/toured. up to 1980 currently. hoping that 'glasgow' comes up from 2013 (was available up till recently on ubuprojex), that was a great show.
