222868 LAB... The King's Man The King's Man (Welsh Blades #1) by Elizabeth Kingston is a hard to get into book. I did finally get into it and it wasn't half bad. The h, Gwenllian, is kind of a Brienne from Game of Thrones type. She is a good swordsman, is rather tall, and much misunderstood by everyone else but her faithful men. The H, Ranulf, is a man tired of the life of a paranoid king's assassin, and is both stabbed by and rescued Gwenllian and her men. It did take a different turn at about the 3/4 mark which I wasn't really thrilled with. Kingston's books are usually a complicated read, especially with all of the Welsh terms in this book.

Carol B. I think that you read the Belador series too? I am liking this book, Belador Cosaint: Belador Book 9
Belador Cosaint Belador Book 9 by Dianna Love . The long drawn out quest by Quinn seems to be coming together. (Sorry no spoilers here! :-} ). This book is action from the word go. Did you happen to read the last book, Dragon King Of Treoir ? Dragon King Of Treoir (Belador, #8) by Dianna Love I am really looking forward to the series wrap up, because I need to see how all of these pieces come together.

222868 Holly... I saw that you are exactly 6 months older than me. I had a boyfriend with the same birthday. It's funny that we are all friends here.

I started Belador Cosaint on kindle, and I am also listening to the Cortesean Duchess.

222868 I just finished Bayou Born and I agree that it was slow going, but I felt compelled to keep reading. As Doug stated there are lots of plot holes that need filling. I still think that it has lots of potential. Edwards has a way of stretching her world building out. The main character, Luce, has no idea what she is, and slowly she suspects that various others aren't human either. This series while punctuated with humor, is a darker series. I really do hope that the next book isn't a long time coming. Because I read it so intently, I felt that it deserved 4- 4.5 stars. I had the same feeling when I started Bishop's Others, and Hunter's Jane Yellowrock series. I'm not comparing this book to those series, I just felt the same way when I read those.
Now I really don't know what to read next.

222868 Lisa, you and I are sisters of another mother. The first album that I went out and purchased myself was Tapestry. I had other albums, but I bought them with my Mom. (We had the same taste in music, and way back then singles, 45's, were popular.) My teacher was a big fan, played it in class a lot, so I walked to the store and bought myself one. I saw her a couple of years ago @ Foxwoods casino in a smaller venue and it was a great show. I'll have to check the show out.

Vinity... I love the Maiden Lane series, I will hate to see it end too, and I agree about the Harlequin story line.

I read the first two books in the Everlasting, ME. series, and I'm finding that I really like the quirky residents of that town.

The first book by Jana DeLeon is Dead Man Talking: A Cozy Paranormal Mystery (The Happily Everlasting Series Book 1)

The second book by Mandy Roth is Once Hunted Twice Shy.

Every week a different book will come out until all four are out. These are very light, goofy characters, and just cute reads.

I am typing this on my kindle which I use when I am traveling, instead of carrying around my tablet or laptop, but I can't find a way to post links.

222868 I might be missing something but how is it that some of my audio books show up on my Goodreads lists, and some do not? I rate them all when I finish a title. I almost exclusively listen to books, because I don't have much time to sit and read my kindle and my lists are way behind for my 2017 Reading Challenge.

222868 Karen... Good thoughts for you and your community. I hope that a rain storm comes quickly for you all.

I finished Dead Man Talking Dead Man Talking (The Happily Everlasting Series, #1) by Jana Deleon
It was OK, and DeLeon has a couple of old guys assisting one of the main characters, (like the women in the Miss Fortune series). It does take a long time to establish the world. It did have a couple of really great zingers in it, I would give it a 3-3.5* rating. Nothing spectacular, but it did keep me reading, and sometimes the first book in a series is a bit rough around the edges for the world building.

222868 I still can't believe that your ipod just started working again. That's too funny. Let me know if you can meet, if not, no big deal. I just asked on a whim anyway.

I started Dead Man Talking Dead Man Talking (The Happily Everlasting Series, #1) by Jana Deleon . I'm only in the beginning but it has a bouncy feel to it like all of Jana DeLeon's other books.

222868 Kristi... I bought one of the original kindles too!! My husband didn't say a word, he just shook his head and said that if the spare room no longer looked like I belonged to a book of the week club, then he was all for it. When I compared the price of all of those hardcover books that I was reading I felt that it was justified, especially then, when the e-books were downright cheap.

To be fair, I use my Fire like a tablet when I travel. While not as fast or capable, it is easier to carry both on a flight and traveling around. I say go for it!!

melindeeloo... The only series that I have a really hard time with on audio, (besides really bad narration), is Singh's Psy/Changeling books. Especially the first books, the monotone Psy, and the "adjectives" are almost too much to bear. Her other series are better for that format. That said, I have listened to all but Heart of Obsidian Heart of Obsidian (Psy-Changeling, #12) by Nalini Singh , which we all purchased at the first Doug's Harpies book signing, so I read it.

Vinity... I-40 runs from Winston Salem to Asheville. I am literally staying right off of the highway. So you pick a town and I will find you. If you want text Kristi. she can give you my number if you don't already have it.

It is an almost sad statement that we look for ways to read while wet! :-)
I have a cute little waterproof speaker that has a suction cup, so I stick that thing to anything and listen to books via bluetooth.

Doug... The book Born in Fire Born in Fire has it's similarities, but it's different enough that I don't keep comparing it to Kate Daniels. Also, while it has serious action, the snarkiness of the lead character Reagan, sets it apart.

222868 Vinity... My family is way over next to Hickory, NC. Isn't there a "spy" series that crosses the Castles Ever After series?

I'm glad that you folks got the crossover characters all straightened out. I was actually thinking about another book, Do You Want to Start a Scandal Do You Want to Start a Scandal (Spindle Cove, #5, Castles Ever After, #4) by Tessa Dare which is a tiny crossover between Castles Ever After and Spindle Cove series.

222868 LAB... There is a bit of a cross over with Dare's Spindle Cove series, I believe. I might have the wrong series, some of the overlap of characters jumbles up.

222868 Kristi and Vinity, I am flying in to N.C. on the 19th- 23rd. I have a family reunion on the 21st. Are either of you or both of you going to be around? I don't know of a "central" place for us to meet, NC is a big state, but I will try if something can be arranged.

On the reading front, I am listening to Born in Fire Born in Fire (Fire and Ice Trilogy, #1) by K.F. Breene which is a Book of the Month book on the Girls, Guns and Grimoires discussion group.

So far it is a tad bit like Kate Daniels, she's a mercenary, she is on her own, she is something not quite human, she wields, (among other things), a magic imbued sword. The thing that I do like is that she is snarky. This is set in New Orleans and surprisingly, (not), she is nearly forced to work for vampires.
