Waverly, In French class, all through school there wasn't an equivalent to Vanessa, so I was Veronique, (Veronica), no harm done. At least you are consistent, LOL! :-)

My surgery went really well, I was @ the surgical center @ 5:45am and home @ 9ish. It's killing me right now, but the pain is lessening each day. I've been sleeping in the recliner in the living room, and to my great pleasure, the CO2 detector started going off @ 4:00am. Apparently the "life" of the detector was up and 4am was the best time to let me know. (My other detector had no such compulsion.)

Re: The Vampire series, I still read the BDB series. Her off-shoot, the "Legacy" series are like the original BDB books, more on the romance side of things. Cole's IAD series used to be a must read on release day for me, I loved her mix of supes.

222868 On today's BookBub, there is a collection of Regency romances for free. I do not know the particular author, (Georgette Brown), but 8 books for free on KU?" I think that I must get those.

LAB... How are you? I'm very glad that someone here finally read that book, (Sin & Chocolate). It has popped up as a book for me to read for ages now.

Thanks to whoever, (whomever?), recommended Spiked Spiked (The Sundance #1) by C.P. Rider I liked it, a different paranormal to be sure, in fact a whole town of them. I liked it so much that I am reading the next book, Summoned. Summoned (The Sundance #2) by C.P. Rider
This series reminds me of the Cambio Springs series, the obvious reason is because it is set in the desert, but it is a community mostly made up of shifters and witches, other paranormals and normal people who may or may not be aware of them.

I'm going to have quite a bit of time to read, tomorrow I will have surgery on my other, (left), shoulder, (Rotator cuff). I'm a little bit nervous, but the good thing is that I'm the first surgery, 5:45a.m. Last time, (3 years ago), the first patient had a lot more damage than anticipated and my 9:00a.m. became 11:45 a.m. Not too bad a wait, but nerve wracking. I cant wait to get it done.

222868 TINNGG The only thing that I don't like about The Dark Lord is that Heckel goes off on "technical jargon" tangents. Some stuff is fun with twisty vocabulary, but some is too lengthy.

222868 melindeeloo I like them too. I can't wait to read Pack of Lies.

I have been reading a book that is tagged as fantasy parody. The Dark Lord, by Jack Heckel. It takes a bit to get into, but it is kind of a sarcastic group travel adventure. The lead character, Avery, is a wizard who as a "school" project portrayed himself as a dark lord to intervene in another world. He succeeded until he came back to the Mysterium (school), went out for the night, and fell prey to a seer who steals a key and becomes the Dark Queen. Avery has to go back, gather up his old foes, (he let them win), and try and overthrow the new dark force. It's pretty witty at times and tries to utilize all of the fantasy tropes, (wizard, elf, dwarf, warrior woman, fallen priest, etc.).

Paula I am so sad for the orchards, aren't you and your family in the agriculture business too? I hope that the much needed rain gets to where it is needed most, (without all of the floods).

Kristi face it, we stink at resisting a shiny new book adventure. Happy Reading! ;-)

On a book note, I finished the second in Charlaine Harris' Gunnie Rose series and I loved it. A Longer Fall A Longer Fall (Gunnie Rose, #2) by Charlaine Harris
This is no sophomore slump. The action is ongoing, the characters are interesting and the main "couple" are a different blend of personalities. This is a series set in an alternative United States, guns rule, there are both horses and cars for transportation and there are known magics. The main character, Lizbeth, (Gunnie), Rose is a raw sort, dirt poor, she makes a living hiring out as a "gunnie" a hired gun usually contracted to protect someone or in this case something. On the final leg of her latest protection job, Gunnie and her crew are on a train which is intentionally derailed.
People start pouring into their railroad car but they're not there to help, they are there to steal the crate that they have been protecting. Guns blazing, she ends up being the last of her crew that wasn't either killed, murdered, or injured and it becomes her mission to find out what happened to their cargo and why was it so important that a train full of people were at risk for just one item.
The story is interesting, the characters are unique, and the world building is fascinating.

I have been reading so many great books lately, I hope that I can continue this streak of winners.

222868 Hi Vinity, I hope that all is well with you!

I finished Boundary Haunted and loved it. I like how Lex has evolved and while scared (and given her past), doesn't crumble under pressure.

In my attempt to complete series or trilogies I am listening to At Death's Door: A Deadman's Cross Novel. I am used to reading and listening to Kenyon's books, but this seems a bit more chaotic than usual. I know that this is the conclusion of the trilogy, but she seems to be packing in a ton of info and characters, and I'm only about a third of the way through. On a good note we get to see one of my favorites, Jaden.

222868 I just got a Bookbub email and the latest Lords of the Underworld book, The Darkest Warrior The Darkest Warrior (Lords of the Underworld, #14) by Gena Showalter (Gillians), is only $1.99. I haven't read these in a long time. Also, if you have Audible Escape, almost all of the Lords of the Underworld are free. I don't know if I can listen to Cameo's book, she might make me crazy if the narrator portrays her correctly.

222868 Happy... Joyce has another book out now too. Steal Her Heart, which is set in modern day west. I agree about the Wolf Bride book, but we had to have a dramatic departure for a reunion. I like the original "Brides" better. I'm on my phone & the link don't exist on this app.

222868 I finished Junkyard Cats Junkyard Cats by Faith Hunter . I thought that it was a high energy and totally different ride. Her new main character Shining Smith is intelligent, and believable. Former military, Shining has been living a quiet life in her military parts junkyard in the desert, until she finds the body of her contact and friend in her latest acquisition. Clutched in his hand is his final note to her warning of pending danger. Add futuristic weaponry, nano technology, and a clowder of highly organized and intelligent cats and you have the making of a daring new story. I like Hvam's narration, and didn't feel like I was listening to a previous series characters. I will most definitely read more in this world.

222868 I get the daily update from BookBub and in today's is Lora Leigh's Cross Breed
Cross Breed (Breeds, #23) by Lora Leigh
which I have read and I went to check to see where I left off in that series. Years ago I would gobble them up ASAP but now I wait, (generally), for the kindle price to go down and read them then. Well according to Ammy, I haven't read a one, the whole series doesn't list me as having purchased the kindle edition. Except for Jonas' book which I got as a freebie in paperback, and Cassie's book, (Cross Breed), which I listened to, I probably have 30 or more on kindle. I know that "updates" occur, but this is kinda crazy. If I look them up in "my content" I can find them but I have to type the titles in individually. I know that this has been brought up before, but that's a lot of books to eliminate from my kindle "previously purchased' list. What if I wanted to (highly unlikely), write a review? Does is show that I purchased these on the review?
I listened to an Audible original, Aliens of Extraordinary Ability Aliens of Extraordinary Ability by Maeve Higgins, Shaina Feinberg, Cristela Alonzo, Alysia Reiner, Cole Escola, Karim Nematt, Carlos Ib It sounded like radio show production, sound effects, background noises, and different actors. It is the story of a group of people here in NYC on visitor visas who are trying to find a way to remain in the US. The main character, /sadie, is from Ireland. There is also a character who has lived here since he was 3 and who faces the possibility that he could be deported at any time. His sister was born here, and their mother was deported years ago when they were children. You get a bit of a feel for all of their lives. (There are a few more main characters too). While I liked the story, it just ends. It was like a quick episode of an ongoing series. The title is one of the ways that you can get a working visa and be on the path to citizenship. If you have a talent that you can present, then you might land a coveted work visa. The acting was very good, the characters were distinct and easy to follow listening to their dialogues. I liked it but did not love it. I must not have read the fine print that it would end abruptly. LOL!

222868 Now I want to watch The Witcher series.

On a book note, I finished Emperor's Throne
Emperor's Throne (Desert Cursed #6) by Shannon Mayer
and it was a pretty good ending. Mayer tossed in a couple of twists, which I loved. She intends to write in this world a couple of more adventures with Zam, Maks, and Lila and if you sign up for her newsletter you can get a short story right now. I liked this series more than her Venom trilogy one, but it was nice to see a couple of characters from Venom in this series. I haven't read her Rylee Adamson books.

222868 Does anyone know if Wen Spencer is actually writing a sequel to The Black Wolves of Boston ? The Black Wolves of Boston (Black Wolves of Boston) by Wen Spencer
I know that she writes impossibly slow, but that came out in 2017.
