http://www.fictfact.com/ is a website where you can keep track of your book series. You can:
•Get notified when books are released or added to your favorite series.
•Personalize a Book Release Calendar
•Read books in the correct order with custom next book list
•Optional public profile to share with friends
•Create lists to organize your series
•Specify ownership status on books and create custom book reports
•Enter a monthly contest to win an Amazon gift card.
•Stay up to date with all the wonderful things on FictFact!

Goodreads does a lot of those things, too, maybe even a bit better, but the great thing about Fictfact is they will notify you when a new title in a series you like will be coming out.

Linda, I read an amazing amount of series too so I also use FictFact. Once I know a book is coming out, I then make Goodreads's shelves like "out-in-2014-04-april" or "out-in-2014" if I don't know the month yet, and combine those with shelves like "need to place hold" for library books I want, "hold placed" so I know I've already done just that, "to buy" to help make shopping lists for books I want to preorder, and "ordered-from-..." so I know I've placed my order and from where. Got it down to a science. ;-)

I know what you mean, Kiera. I so want a cat, but I can't afford one, especially if I want to keep buying books. Maybe one day I'll be able to adopt one.

22225 I don't have any pets myself, but reading another thread got me wondering, from those of you who do have pets, what pets do you have and do you ever find they and your books and bookcases have, shall we say, "interesting" interactions? Do you ever have trouble with your pets causing damage? How do you deal with it? Or do your pets get along just fine with your books and/or bookcases? Do they work out nicely as living bookends or do they get in your way trying to be living bookmarks? I'm curious as a cat. ;-)

I'm afraid it's not really shareable since my database was designed by me using Microsoft Access, but did you ever consider just making use of the Private Notes field in Goodreads's reviews?

22225 The library where I work is hosting a Scholastic book sale all week to help raise money for furniture we need. I picked up a nice find there: The Elements A Visual Exploration of Every Known Atom in the Universe by Theodore Gray

22225 I very rarely write notes in my books. I'm a librarian and have my own database catalog for my personal library. It's in there that I put any notes I might want to have about my books. Things like the page to find a quote I like, clues in mysteries, things like that.

22225 I couple more orders arrived: Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas and Lending a Paw A Bookmobile Cat Mystery by Laurie Cass
22225 Tammy wrote: "I am afraid I wasn't very clear when I said "torn page" I meant half the page is missing. I am a scotch tape fan lol"

Ouch. It's bad enough when pages are loose, but to be missing even just in part, that's when it's time to get a new copy. I can't recall buying a copy that damaged before, but I do have a couple of books with loose pages. I did keep some of them even after buying a replacement. The new copy was for reading while the old was kept for sentimentality sake.
22225 When I was in college I had a teacher that specifically told us to write in our textbooks. I just couldn't do it, it just felt so wrong. I have written in my own books, but very very very rarely, usually only in books like field guides to check off sightings in the indices. I don't mind buying used books that have dedications written on the title pages, that adds character in a way, but reading underlining or highlighting in a book is like hearing fingernails on a chalkboard to me.

22225 Boy, have I got a story to tell you of a great find. There's this book I've been hemming and hawing for a couple of years over whether I should order it used online. Even though I gave it five stars, I don't want to but it new, but so far I just can't seem to find it anywhere used for less than 25% off and that's not enough off for me to buy it used. I was out running errands today and decided to stop in at the local library and see what they might have on their used book shelves for sale and what do I find? There it was, The Fourth Stall by Chris Rylander for a mere 25 cents! Add to that I also picked up Definitely Dead, Club Dead, Dead to the World, and Martin the Warrior all for 25 cents a piece! Not a bad find, huh? :-)
22225 I used to not keep or even buy in the first place water stained books, but since my basement flooded I found I can overcome that damage if the book is still readable. When it comes to written in books, those I find I detest. I'd rather wait and try to find it without any writing. Being a librarian myself, I just repair torn books.

22225 I place a couple of used book orders and another just came in: One White Dolphin by Gill Lewis
22225 Paulfozz wrote: " used books are a completely different kettle of fish though, and sometimes you have to be impulsive or you may never see a copy of that book again."

Exactly. My mom taught me that when you see something you want, buy it then, because you may never see it again. And that is most definitely the case with used books.
