213642 Bout of Books 23 ~ Day 4

Any of you love a raunchy, naughty MC who is a horndog? If so, check out the Ian Dex series (linked below). The series is so funny, it's not your typical book, only read it if you have an off sense of humor, don't mind a lot of name calling and sex jokes. If you like that kind of stuff, give it a try, it's a hoot. And, if you like it, you are my kind of person, let's be friends? :)

213642 Bout of Books 23 ~ Day 1

Not my best start to a Bout of Books, but not my worst either. I hope to read more as the week goes on, but I just haven't been in the mood to read for a while. I hope to read a lot of good books to get me over that hump, we'll see.

I HATE Twitter, so I didn't do the Introduction, but just to join in, me in 6 words :
Naughty little reader and computer gamer!

213642 I sucked!! LOL!! In my defense, I started talking to someone that I haven't in years and I just didn't read much.

I only finished ONE book. How awful is that?!

A Merciful Silence (Mercy Kilpatrick, #4) by Kendra Elliot

It was enjoyable as Kendra's books always are.
----------

I DNF my most voted for book. It had 5 votes and I got through a chapter, just cuz I was trying, and I didn't care about it at all. Couldn't do it anymore, and after not wanting to read for 2 or 3 days I finally considered it DNF.

Bones and Bourbon by Dorian Graves
-----------

I started a 3rd book but haven't finished it, even though I do like it. I'm about 40% into it and will finish it up, I just haven't cuz I've sucked book wise. LOL!!

Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero
----------

For me, I can't plan out books. I pick up what I want when I wanted. I thought by doing this, maybe I'd be able to read what others picked for me. Nope. Wasn't feeling it. Just can't do it, I'm weird, I know! :)

Did you like your books, Plethora?

213642 Hey Jackie ~ I lied. Not intentionally. LOL! It's just been so long since I read Ice Station, that I forgot. But their is a kid in it as well. Nothing happens to her, but she is in the middle of all the fighting and stuff that goes on. I never realized that Reilly likes to do that before. There's a young girl in it, Great Zoo of China and the Jack West books. There's one in Tournament too but no real danger there, not really. That must be his thing. And they are always much smarter than their years given. So sorry I thought there wasn't one! Just re-read it for the first time in many years.

With the Reyes talk, I can't stand Reyes. I find him creepy. I read the first two books and probably won't read any more because of the Charley / Reyes relationship. I like the rest, can't stand him or the two of them together. Creeps me out!

If you have a minute, vote on a book for me to read for the "Make Me Read It" Read-a-Thon!
Vote Here Please!

Which hour was most daunting for you?
My eyes were burning around 1, which is typical, but hardest hour was around 8am, so that was different. Was fine during the night, other than the burning eyes. But got really tired when I'd been awake around 20 hours.

Tell us ALLLLL the books you read!
See Below

Which books would you recommend to other Read-a-thoners?
In general? Chronicles of St Mary's, Great Zoo of China, The Martian..... from what I read? Ian Dex series by John Logsdon

How did you feel about this first-ever Reverse Readathon? Should we do it again?
I enjoyed it. I thought it would be easier for me, it was and it wasn't. The night was easier, but it's an extra half day of staying up so that's long. But I think I liked it overall. Made it seem like it was going very slow.

How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? Would you be interested in volunteering to help organize and prep in October?
I'll definitely read, and I might be willing to help.

Dewey's 24 Hour Read-a-Thon Stats

I completed 11 books, started 1 other
I read 2,152 pages
I read 6 books on my Kindle
I listened to 5 books as audiobooks
I read 2 Novels, 6 Novellas and 3 short stories
I read for approximately 18 hours and 30 minutes (8 hours on Kindle, 10 hours 30 minutes on Audio)

213642 Hey ladies!

I'm going to be doing Dewey's tomorrow, so I'll get a lot of books in. LMK if there's anything you are really dying to read, and I'll stay clear of it. :)

I'll probably put a probable list on the staging area, as I won't be online much during the night/day.

I know Angie is doing it as well (the poor girl, she'd had a crazy week), are either of you?
Jul 25, 2018 05:59PM

213642 I say it does!
Jul 24, 2018 07:27AM

213642 Ah. Well, Lily is unique, and stronger/more capable than the rest of the team combined. But it takes a few books to get the full story.

If you wanted to try to see if you liked his style, there's no kids in the Scarecrow series, starting with Ice Station. Or, there a Jurassic Park like book with Dragons called The Great Zoo of China. There's one kid, but she doesn't get harmed/killed.

But he's not for everyone, so no worries if you don't like him. I just prefer books with lots of fighting/action and his give that to me in spades. He's my favorite author, though he's slow on putting books out. I am excited that after the next one, he's doing a time travel one. I can't wait for that!
Jul 24, 2018 07:12AM

213642 If you didn't like the audio, you probably won't like it. Not everyone can get into his over-the-top action. If you like historical, you might like The Tournament, it's definitely not like his other stuff. But he's not for everyone.
Jul 24, 2018 06:04AM

213642 Nice Jackie! I like it, but it's not on my top top favorites. :)

Hey, Reilly fans, (are you one yet, Jackie?) :)

The Tournament by Matthew Reilly has a MC named Roger. :) It's a departure from his normal stuff, and I figured I'd hate it but wanted to read it anyways, and I ended up liking it! So if either of you wanna give it a try, there's that.
