WHOA, the Gibbon book?? that's quite an undertaking.
I think Bart Ehrman has some books on the subject you want, but I don't know how good they are.

I'm so glad you liked it! The Arabella in Arabella is a different one though. However it is a really great book and I definitely recommend it if you want to read it next! ;)

Some scenes were better in the movie, some were better in the book, and I did like that all t..."
The author bits are part of the book! I mean it, they're all part of the story, it's all fiction. There are no editions without them (although the author did write an additional intro for the 30th anniversary edition, which is ALSO fictional). And there is no sequel either, it's fake! There is only that "one chapter", because the sequel is supposed to be "long lost" (but it never existed).
The whole thing is basically a huge practical joke, and that's part of the charm of the Princess Bride. Here is more about this whole thing: https://tothelamppost.wordpress.com/t...

Kim, if you check out the Ontd post for this month, there are 3 lists linked in the sources. Other people left lists in the comments too

And this reminds me, Juliana started a romance reading challenge, if anyone is up for it: https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...
It's going to be fun!

Mine, in no particular order:
- Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik (fantasy)
- This Is Going to Hurt: Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor by Adam Kay (memoir)
- Bath Tangle and Friday's Child by Georgette Heyer (historical romance)
- The Uncommon Reader by Alan Bennett (fiction)
- The Anna Karenina Fix: Life Lessons from Russian Literature by Viv Groskop (non-fiction)
- Blackout / All Clear by Connie Willis (historical fiction / sci-fi)

Well, what I didn't like about the Martian wasn't the science stuff (I frankly would not know if anything was accurate or not), it was the grating "how do you do fellow kids" style, the nerdy Internet slang overuse. This bothered me about the Martian (and I think it's very much part of what made it so bro-y) and All Systems Red (it got less bad as the story went on though) and, now that I think about it, The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet (that one I literally couldn't finish).
So it's something I've been noticing in contemporary sci-fi and that I just find really annoying. Clearly many sci-fi readers appreciate it though, judging by the popularity of these books.
