201765 I've written several times about the benefits in using eReaders News Today (ENT) for marketing our books. Both their regular and Book-Of-The-Day offerings are a great way to make your free and discounted eBooks available to a large number of potential buyers. Over the last several years, I've sold hundreds of books on this site, most of them being from my Det. Louis Martelli, NYPD, mystery/thriller series. (According to the people who run ENT, romance and mystery/thrillers are among the genre that do well; YA and children's books are not their best sellers (something to which I can attest)). You'll find more information here:

http://ereadernewstoday.com/about-us/

But the reason I'm writing today is to call attention to something that might not occur to you, and that is: besides any actual book sales you enjoy, an ENT engagement can have a long "tail" of pages read by subscribers to both Kindle Unlimited (KU) and Kindle Owners' Lending Library (KOLL)...pages for which members of Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) earn royalties. (Note: if you sign up for KDP, then your eBooks can only be sold through Amazon.com.) Below is an example from my latest ENT engagement, in which one of my Det. Louis Martelli, NYPD, mystery/thrillers was offered at a discount for a week, beginning on September 16, 2017. The second line up on the top graph is 40 books sold (all together, I sold slightly more than 50 books during that week). The second line up from the bottom on the lower graph is 500 pages read.

KDP isn't for everyone, of course. It limits your eBook offerings to Amazon.com. But for those who can live with this, the KU and KOLL royalties do provide another royalty stream.

201765 Maria taking that slow trip north skirting the east coast. Winds picking up. Coastal impacts already being felt. Should get pulled out by approaching front in a couple days and be long gone by the weekend.

Little Lee is a 100mph cane in the open Atlantic. He might merge with Maria on her way on out.

Watching western Caribbean early October. Still showing up on some models. EURO not giving up on that.

Also watching little piece of our approaching front that might be left behind off the FL east coast. Looks to move west over the state later part of the weekend.

Ah, yes, marketing. That is a many-headed animal, and it offers still more opportunities for people to separate you from your money. Spend a few cents and purchase this book:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...

A Website of some sort is a requirement. FWIW, I don't do Facebook or Twitter, but do have a Goodreads page and blog, the latter tied into my Author Central page (free) on Amazon.com.

https://www.amazon.com/Theodore-Jerom...

The only eBooks I "publish" are exclusively on Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), and I frequently run discount sales on eReader News Today (ENT), which have been quite lucrative.

Frankly, Carole is a "beast" when it comes to marketing. She's the one that can really given you some pointers on marketing.

How much do you spend on cover art and editing?

Listen to your gut! There are more ways to separate you from your money in this game than you can shake a stick at. You can purchase a cover for less than $100 at any number of sites on the Internet. Help is available from CreateSpace, for example, in setting up your composite cover, and publication on that site is free (assuming you've already created an edited and formatted manuscript in pdf format). But others can tell you about the options they've used.

BTW, for editing, I've used Michael Garrett, Stephen King's first editor. Excellent work, and cost is moderate.

201765 Impressive looking on satellite. Maria holding on to low 963mb pressure but also low winds. 80mph officially. Slight wobble west in the last Hurricane Hunter fix. Biggest question really left is how far close to the NC coast will she get as she slows to a crawl through Wednesday. www.spaghettimodels.com / Mikes Weather Page APP

201765 DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK
------------------------------
At 1100 AM EDT (1500 UTC), the eye of Hurricane Maria was located
near latitude 28.7 North, longitude 72.9 West. Maria is moving
toward the north near 9 mph (15 km/h), and this general motion with
some decrease in forward speed is expected through Monday night. On
the forecast track, the core of Maria will be moving well east of
the southeast coast of the United States during the day or so.

Maximum sustained winds are near 105 mph (165 km/h) with higher
gusts. Some fluctuations in intensity are possible during the next
24 hours, but gradual weakening is expected by Monday night or
Tuesday.

Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 60 miles (95 km) from the
center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 240 miles
(390 km).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 947 mb (27.97 inches).

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND
----------------------
SURF: Swells generated by Maria are increasing along portions of
the southeastern United States coast and Bermuda and will be
increasing along the Mid-Atlantic coast later today. Swells also
continue to affect Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, the northern
coast of Hispaniola, the Turks and Caicos Islands, and the Bahamas.
These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip
current conditions. Please consult products from your local weather
office for more information.

201765 Slow stall shown by many models for Maria. EURO here from tropicaltidbits.com shows Tue-Sat. Upper low to the west could attract more bumping westward with high pressure to the north and east blocking movement. Front comes and pulls her to sea later in the week. IMO intensity will stay above current forecast in a few days. Coastal impacts and rains will be stories with sitting system. www.spaghettimodels.com / Mikes Weather Page APP
