Oh I liked Contagion. I’m watching Pandemic on Netflix at the moment. I’m the type of person who will watch Air Crash Investigations on Nat Geo before getting on a plane. I feel for anyone who is having to lay off staff at the moment or having to close their business because of this. And of course for the people suffering and those working to keep them alive. It’s become an odd world.
Now in the UK whole households need to stay at home for 14 days if one person has symptoms. We have been advised (especially in London) to avoid pubs, clubs, restaurants and cinema. My son’s school is closed to certain years because the staff are self isolating. My daughters uni is ending face to face tuition in favour of online teaching from Friday. We are all to work from home if this is possible. It feels odd. We can still go out but we are advised to avoid people. (OK I know plenty of people who will be absolutely fine with that.)
I think they do have measures in place and they’ve used them before. We just don’t know what those measures are. Or I’m kidding myself and that’s what I want to believe. Lol
Our latest advice is to self-isolate for 7 days if we develop a fever over 100F or a new dry cough. Not the cough anyone has had since October-that doesn’t count, it has to be a new one. My concern is still for my son’s exams this summer. They are set to coincide with the peak of the outbreak. These are final exams that determine what he can do for the following two years.
I’m still waiting to here what our government says. Working from home is definitely the way to go. (Although probably not with members of the public coming into the house like I do!)
I think you’re in a better position to avoid it than a lot of people. I’m still seeing clients and trying not to get too close. And Danny is still commuting into London.
Look out for more advice this afternoon, Alex. I think it might change after the government has had its latest meeting.
I suppose that makes sense. At the moment the guidelines are that anyone who comes into the UK from Italy or other countries that are classed as higher risk are being told to self isolate for two weeks. The government is holding a Cobra meeting at the moment and I suspect our guidelines will change this afternoon.
I’m not feeling great either. But then that’s normal for me and my antihistamines are working-so hay fever. It is worth remembering that many people who have tested positive have mild symptoms. The key is for everyone to not cough or sneeze over anyone else and to sanitise the crap out of everything. We’re delaying our usual visit to my father in law this year. He’s in his 80s and had brain surgery last year.
I imagine many more people have it than is being reported. If it can present as something as mild as a cold or with no symptoms at all, there’s no way to know unless you test the entire population.
Body Shop Hemp Hand Protector here. Here’s my first change-I can’t get a slot for shopping delivery. I normally order on Wednesday for a Friday morning delivery. All slots gone. We’ll have to go out and get stuff to take to Gemma at uni. I could have done without that this week I feel wiped out.
I’ve got my second day this week of commuting into London. After today, it’s only my husband who will be going in regularly unless they tell everyone to work from home. I’m not sure if warmer weather will wipe it out. Singapore has it and that’s a hot country but I don’t know how these things work.
I’m hopefully picking up my medication on Friday. I should be good for two months after that.
