Serious, Carole?! That sucks...

I was thinking the same, Dale. My husband and I merged two of our businesses last year, and it was much cleaner to do it at the end of a calendar year than it would have been at the start. Especially from the viewpoint of federal and state taxes. Plus, managers of many big companies have personal goals that they are pressured to meet by the end of a calendar year. Not meeting it by then would impact raises and promotions. I agree though, if the transition has problems, it can be a nightmare for them and significantly hurt our sales. They don't seem to be rushing into this though. It has been in the works for a while, so hopefully they are considering all the possibilities to allow the transition to go as smoothly as possible.

Liked ad following, David!

Welcome, Rutvi! Following you on Twitter. Very nice page!

Thank you, Alex! Your recent article is very good.

I certainly hope it is an easy transition for all of us. In my case, since I own my ISBNs and there is a free set-up coupon code, it doesn't cost me anything to register my books with IS too, as long as I do it before the coupon expires in June. Also, it appears that Kindle will no longer offer expanded distribution. If this is the case, my books will no longer be available for bookstores to purchase after the transition happens.
For anyone who doesn't own their ISBNs, I think it is important to weight the cost and benefits. If your primary focus is Amazon sales, you don't see a benefit from expanded distribution, and you have free CS ISBNs, then it probably doesn't make sense to hassle with listing through a secondary platform.

Thanks, Anita. I want to get all my paperbacks on IS too. Especially since I own the ISBNs anyway. That way, if anything does happen in the transfer, they will still be available somewhere.

Thanks, Anita. IngramSpark runs free set up coupons all the time. Look for the promo codes for free set up and all you will have to pay for is the ISBN. Just make sure your specs for the files you already have meet IS's requirements. Does Kindle still allow you to publish through both like CS did or do you have to be exclusive to Kindle?

That is a ridiculous idea, R.L. It would be too easy. Haha!

It makes sense they would use the equipment they already have. It is good to know they didn't spike the price of author copies. Hopefully the same holds true for full color picture books. Does Kindle offer free ISBNs or do you have to buy your own? I always buy my own anyway, but am just curious.

Thanks for the info, David! Here is the link for the thread with the takeovers if you are interested in learning more:

Thanks for posting this, Anita and all the research you have been doing. Do they offer a discount on author copies yet? If so, is it comparable to CS?

Like R.L. said, sending a mobi copy to their Kindle email address is the best way to make it international. If you plan to gift from Amazon.com, it will need to be US only. You can gift to other countries through Amazon, but you must make sure your book is available on that country's version of the Amazon website. You will then need to create an account on that website of Amazon and purchase it there, not on amazon.com. I have been able to pay with my US credit card on the European, Australian, and Canadian sites. You can convert the currency at checkout.

Liked. :) I want to thank you so much for supporting other authors. You do not have to pay to write or earn money on medium. The Preferred Partner program is completely free. You only have to pay to read more than 3 members only articles a month and for your claps to count toward payment for other writers. However, it sounds like you have a lot of exciting things coming that will require your time. Wishing you the best of luck with your expanded publishing journey! :) Keep us posted.

Thanks for sharing, Becky!

American/English speakers have the same problem. ;) Like R.L. said, you can always edit later. Good luck!
