201765 Great interview! A coup! Crossing the pond is no easy task.

A thought occurred to me: this time 3 months ago my country (UK) was totally divided between those who wanted to Leave the EU and those who did not. Demonstrations, anger at the 'other side' and so on. Very bad. Now three months later, we seem to have forgotten the Brexit thing altogether and we are all pulling together - completely united except for a very, very few.

What a great turnaround and with less energy expended on politics, we can use this lockdown time to read and write! Something good...

It doesn't matter where you're from, you might be having to stay home or maybe your life has been turned upside down with this tricky Coronavirus. Well, here's something that might help with taking your mind off the troubles:

Amazon #1 Best Seller in Books>Romance>Time Travel
A time travel romance : Laura finds herself washed ashore from a shipwreck early in the 21st century - she'd stormed off from her betrothed in 1814 so she's somewhat confused as to how this could happen. She likes her new life but she realizes she has made a terrible mistake.

Meanwhile, Xandra even hates her name as well as all the other bothersome things of modern day life and Laura happens to notice this. Could she...? Yep, she could, and she does. Back goes Xandra to 1814 only to be met with suspicious travelling companions, a highwayman and a delicious man who is still mourning the death of the girl he loved.

How do these two cope with their puzzling new lives? And how does Laura manage not to upset the course of history despite her meddling? And oh boy can she meddle!

If you like a romance with a little bit of mystery, a touch of humour and something of the thriller, then please grab a copy and visit another time, another place.

I don’t write children’s books so I’ve added this one for all ages from Carole P. Roman in case you are self-isolated and have children at home:

Oh Susannah It's in the Bag (Oh Susannah, #1) by Carole P. Roman

Oh Susannah: It's in the Bag

Join Susannah and her friends in this story sure to charm young readers everywhere.

"Once again Roman shows her versatility as a children's writer, With skill, she writes an entertaining as well as a comforting tale about what happens when you keep secrets and burdens hidden inside." - Patricia Lynn Dompieri, Lemon Bee & Other Peculiar Tales

It's got loads of good reviews and is even available as an audiobook.
201765 Excellent idea and so thoughtful. Like Sam, I'm not qualified!

201765 Maybe there will be a rise in sales of physical newspapers now that loo paper is impossible to buy ;o) I'm not sure that modern plumbing systems will cope... :o(

I'm not keeping up with the news much at the moment (trying to catch up on all-things-writing) but I heard that one of our MPs has the virus and she is a novelist too. Maybe she has only been tested, I'll find out more later today. Imagine the virus going around Parliament and from there to every constituency in the country.

201765 Just a thought: as we are all washing our hands very much more than usual it might be wise to use a moisturiser or similar on our hands to protect them from drying and cracking thereby causing an extra entrance for the virus.

201765 I now live on a little corner of the coast and the nearest confirmed case is exactly where I have just moved from. 50 miles away. Phew!

However, as the Brits on here are saying, and as everyone everywhere is saying, cases are multiplying.

Shopping: not a loo roll in sight but, tee hee, I discovered a forgotten stock when I started packing to move and I have about 80 - should last a while... There was no pasta which came as a surprise. A few other things like hand wipes were also out of stock. Unfortunately, because of the move, I ran down my freezer and other stocks to nil or very low, so I have done a hasty restock in case I have to self isolate. Friends visited last night and they've been on a plane but were not at all worried. I felt a little bad when I washed my hands thoroughly after they'd gone.

I hope those of you who have to travel, especially those who commute on overcrowded transport, will stay safe. I hope that as the warmer weather comes in the northern hemisphere this nasty little beastie will become toast.

201765 Hurray!

Though I think any attempt I might make at playing golf or tennis might make you laugh more.
Mar 05, 2020 10:40AM

201765 Well I said I'd let you know if I sell anything in the .de market. Might be a long time for that to happen. I've not sold anything yet and spent 4.99 euros, so that's quite a low spend of about 2.40 euros a month but I've got zilch in return.

Amazon UK used to be in profit but is now running at £200ish in the red and the US has improved a little but is still about $200 overspend on income. And that is the cost price of the book, not what the author received! These figures are over about 16 months or more.

However, this does not include Kindle Unlimited reads and that seems to keep Hide in Time afloat in the UK.

I just tell myself it's a cheaper hobby than golf or tennis.

201765 How can you work with background distractions?!! I have to have silence. If my phone rings and I'm in the 19th century, or some other country, I stare at it as if it's just plopped down from Mars.

Mind you, at the moment I'm not writing at all. Can't wait to get into the new place and settled and then I can tap away in silence and immerse myself in another world.
Jan 17, 2020 03:12AM

201765 Yes, Alex, I did laugh!

I try to start days with making sure that each minute counts. I am very strict with that. My writing slots are very precious.

However - interruptions! Interruptions are the bane of many people's lives, so I insert 15 minutes each morning for interruptions, which inevitably turn out to be 45 minutes. Sigh.

This response is written in tea break time!

201765 Oh I just can't wait to get this blasted move over. Yes, that's a relevant comment...! I can't wait to set aside some time to catch up.
Jan 15, 2020 01:56AM

201765 Yes please, Dale, do let us know. I signed up for Mailchimp years ago and have not looked at it since.

I'm going to bookmark this thread and hopefully come back to it after our house move finally goes through (still no date).
Jan 14, 2020 11:41AM

201765 What an achievement! Brilliant. Keep going :o)
Jan 11, 2020 03:52AM

201765 Wow! This is so good, Kathleen. I have a new book coming out later this year and I'd love to see the cover sparkle. I've bookmarked your page and put a reminder in my diary.

The Goodreads' Amazon UK link to your Pluto Diaries book isn't working. I thought you might like to know.
Jan 08, 2020 12:26PM

201765 That's OK, Simi. It's worked out fine. Has nobody other than Carole noticed this uplift in ratings?
Jan 08, 2020 04:16AM

201765 They've returned - the extra ratings. The US has them back in full, the UK is all over the place! They're obviously trying something new and we'll just have to wait...

However, I now know why I slip off being fed with posts. This morning I have nothing at all from Goodreads and I should at least have these 3 new ones since I posted here. But then that word 'spam' came to mind - and there you all were, in my spam folder. Cheek.
