Morning Glories. It started off as such a brilliant story. Then 6 or 7 trades in you start to realize Nick Spencer doesn't have a plan for ever finishing this. It has totally spiraled out of his control, there's at least 50 characters to keep track of, and you no longer know what the f*ck is going on. So disappointing. For this and Secret Empire, I'd love to kick him in the ding-ding.
Mike wrote: "Man! Sell me on this. Like I said, i only read the first arc -- what keeps you coming back every month? "First off, Matteo Scalera and Dean White's art. Every page of each issue looks like it could be a cover from a 70's sci-fi novel. It's absolutely gorgeous.
You're right that the book is a family drama, but one set on crazy worlds with nonstop action. The dad is a huge screwup even though he's a genius. He pretty much burns every relationship he has to the ground. But the book is also about redemption. At a certain point, he decides to get his shit together and start doing the right thing. It's also about how our children can be better than us and learn from our mistakes.
The writing is really tight. You may not think so from the first 6 issues, but Remender has planned out the entire story from beginning to end. It all comes full circle. I'm looking forward to reading this again from start to finish after the last trade comes out to see what I missed the first time around.
Mike wrote: "For me... it was Black Science. Long time listeners of the show know some/most of the background on this, but nonetheless...I usually enjoy Rick Remender's writing and Matteo Scalera on art is SO..."
Black Science is one of the best series Remender's worked on IMO. Only X-Force or Seven to Eternity are possibly better.
I'm not really a manga reader. It drives me nuts that they read right to left. (If they are printed in the U.S. why can't they flip the art for U.S. readers, especially digital editions?)I have heard a lot of good things about My Hero Academia from manga reading friends comparing it to the X-Men.
Mike wrote: "But I've read NONE of Grant Morrison's JLA!"You should remedy that. Basically Plastic Man is Bugs Bunny with Mr. Fantastic's powers. There's not much else to the character.
Mike wrote: "I know NOTHING about Plastic Man, but I really want to try this new series if only because Gail Simone is on the book. Let me know how it is!"There's not much to know. He used to be a criminal named Eel O'Brien. He got some chemicals dumped on him during a heist and decided to became good when his gang left him behind. Basically, if you've read any of Grant Morrison's JLA, you know all you need to know.
Joshua wrote: "Just joined this week. Learned how to read on comics. Happy to be here. Look like a good group."Hi Joshua, Fancy seeing you here.
On the back deck or floating in the pool is where you can typically find me on summer days. And then every night in a recliner while listening to my R.E.M. channel on Pandora after my wife heads to bed.
Francis wrote: "The worst for me is the Catwoman costume from when Chuck Dixon was writing her standalone title in the nineties, at the time I loved the book, but looking back on it, that was an awful costume design. "Just because Jim Balent drew her with bewbs so big she'd tip over doesn't make it a bad costume. Darwyn Cooke's Catwoman outfit is my favorite of hers. I like the retro 60's look.
Interesting. Here's an article about it from Forbes. My first thought was "Oh great, a glutton of crappy comics" like Kindle Direct Publishing. I mean it's not much different then Image, Dark Horse, or IDW's business model except creators have to go through an editor to get their work published which undoubtedly filters out a lot of terrible comics.
I did see they are doing Print on Demand. I wonder if anyone will do that considering they'd have no collectability unlike a normal physical comic.
Francis wrote: "Started reading Vision: The Complete Series. I'm was not a fan of Tom Kings Batman run, but heard good things about this. Think I might get caught back up in the Bat / Cat wedding though, I'm such a Batman fan. "King's Batman series gets better with each trade released. I wasn't a fan of the first arc either. You can always get it from the library or Hoopla if you're not sure it's worth spending money on.
The last few days has found me reading:New Avengers by Brian Michael Bendis: The Complete Collection, Vol. 1
New Avengers by Brian Michael Bendis: The Complete Collection, Vol. 2
Nova: Resurrection
Hack/Slash vs. Vampirella
Nightwing: The New Order
Summit Vol 1: The Long Way Home
Fight wrote: "currently i am on Invincible iron man, my favourite so far is the ultimate spider-man series, all though i am new to reading, i grew up watching the animated series so it has a strong nostalgic pull for me."Ultimate Spider-Man was ridiculously good. It's all the stuff that was missing from the other Spider-Man titles for years. The run on Iron Man you're reading by Matt Fraction is some of his best work. I have a feeling you'd like Invincible by Robert Kirkman too. It just ended a 144 issue run at Image and is all collected in various trades.
Saga is a good place to start if you want to venture outside superhero comics. It's a space adventure series about 2 people from warring cultures who fall in love and have to go on the run throughout the universe.

Have you guys read Sleeper? I just saw DC re-released the first 12 issues. It's one of the earliest Brubaker / Phillips collaborations. I need to go back and reread it again.
Anyone have a list of LGBTQ+ creators? I don't know much about most creators' personal lives in general. For me it would be much easier to suggest books that have LGBTQ+ characters.
