Hi Craig,

It's nice to see another goodreads friend here.

Hands down, Jonathan Hickman's run on FF and Fantastic Four. John Byrne's run is really great too. The FF assistant editor's month book is still one of the funniest comics I've ever read.

Welcome Ross. You have good taste in comics.

I really liked the first 2 trades, but the third one felt like 4 years of plot stuffed into 4 issues as they tried to tie everything up.

The books are great, but a little too dour in places. Music is a large part of the comic too.

193869 I finally watched the first episode. I really dug it. It definitely captures the look and feel of the comic. I loved the soundtrack. Hopefully they'll continue to use lots of 80's post punk / alternative in future episodes. The characters are dead on with the comic. The shows is just as dark and violent as the comic.

FYI, the above link from youtube no longer works but it is up on www.syfy.com
193869 Francis wrote: "I looked up the old Shadowman comics I'd read, and discovered they were published as Acclaim comics. "

Those Acclaim comics are from when the Acclaim video game company bought Valiant and only kept the names of the characters. That was a dark time for Valiant as most of those were terrible. The original Valiant universe is very close to the current one.

Welcome Hermit. If you're just getting back into comics, I suggest you try out www.hoopladigital.com. It's free from most libraries and gives you access to thousands of digital graphic novels.

I'm a fan of Rumble and The Beauty. Hit Girl in Columbia, eh, not so much.

You really can't go wrong with anything Peter Tomasi wrote. He's one of DC's unsung heros.

193869 Welcome Solseit and Orestis.

There's still some good superhero comics out there. Have you read Tom King's Batman or Tom Taylor's All-New Wolverine run?

193869 Geoff wrote: "I guess a different way to phrase a similar question: All things being equal do people think $60 would be better spent on a Marvel sale or a MU subscription? "

MU subscription, unless you don't think you'll read comics off it every month. I'm a big proponent of MU. You get access to thousands of back issues. I love reading all the obscure stuff I didn't even know existed along with being able to read celebrated runs.

193869 The first episode of Deadly Class is up on Youtube. Hopefully it lives up to the comic. Now to find time to watch it.

Hellboy (4 new)
Dec 19, 2018 09:31PM

193869 Dark Horse has consolidated the essential Hellboy stories into 4 Omnibuses. There's a lot more than that to the Hellboy universe but those are a great point to start.

The Del Toro movies do a great job of capturing the spirit of the Hellboy comics and are definitely worth watching.
