Welcome, Jessica and Melissa! Glad to have some others motivated to read classics I'm wicked behind so always looking forward to those.
Brady that's how I felt when I read it when I read this when I was 12-13 maybe? Wondering if I'll feel differently now.
Just saw the movie for the first time. I thought it was pretty different from the book. So if you have only seen the movie... highly suggest you read this. both are creepy in their own way.
I get this daily email for work called "Finimize" - quote of the day below:"If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.”
- George Orwell

I agree with April - the point about three main classes of society was fascinating, and a very keen observation of society in my opinion. I think I read the same 10 pages 3x when O'Brien was explaining to Winston how the world worked when he was being questioned/tortured/whatever you want to call it. I thought those ideas were really interesting.I thought the book also truly encompassed the phrase, "History is written by the winners". The whole concept of Winston's job I loved. It's very thought-provoking - if everyone who lived through an event is dead, and there's no one to verify, who is to say what is the truth and what is a lie? History can literally change because someone writes about it differently and changes the facts, and there is no one to remember it accurately. This book took it a step further by having the government changing events that just happened, and unlike there being no one alive to refute the lies, there is no one with power to refute what the government claims happened.
Does saying something happened make it the truth if no one is willing to say otherwise? Feels like Trump a little bit... he just says shit like it's true and when media verifies and refutes it he stands by it... and he has supporters who fully believe what he says. Not sure our society is so far from rewriting history for our own political agendas.
Nope, only if people tell me, or if it's posted on your profile and your privacy settings allow people to view. Nothing special!
