I thought the book also truly encompassed the phrase, "History is written by the winners". The whole concept of Winston's job I loved. It's very thought-provoking - if everyone who lived through an event is dead, and there's no one to verify, who is to say what is the truth and what is a lie? History can literally change because someone writes about it differently and changes the facts, and there is no one to remember it accurately. This book took it a step further by having the government changing events that just happened, and unlike there being no one alive to refute the lies, there is no one with power to refute what the government claims happened.
Does saying something happened make it the truth if no one is willing to say otherwise? Feels like Trump a little bit... he just says shit like it's true and when media verifies and refutes it he stands by it... and he has supporters who fully believe what he says. Not sure our society is so far from rewriting history for our own political agendas.
