50x66 There was a character death!! I didn't see that coming! Let me know when you get there Kristy so we can discuss :)

Now I really don't see ANY characters as "good" guys.

50x66 The scene where Laura made a presentation for Foster was so weird! I could never imagine giving my husband a formal presentation...it's so cold. It's like Laura has literally married her job! So weird!!

I got to the scene of her and Griff's third attempt to make a child....and stopped right after they finished. Not sure what's gonna happen next and don't want to spoil by saying more : { )

50x66 Hii!

I'm one-third in and I've been enjoying the book!

It's really interesting. I keep wondering if Griff, Laura or Foster are bad people. They are definitely very gray characters. I feel like Foster dominates Laura and I feel bad that she's going along with the baby thing when she clearly doesn't want to. Not sure where the story is going but I'm sure it's going to get really messy, really fast.

50x66 Ok :] We can both start Monday then!

50x66 Hii! How's the reading going?

I've been having the worse luck getting the audiobook CDs in the car with me for my commutes!

I haven't even finished disk 1. I am ashamed!!

50x66 I just requested thr book from the library. They have an audiobook version. Yay! I should have it in a week.

50x66 I've always wanted to read a Sandra Brown ever since my older sister loved "The Switch" when I was really young. I started "Chill Factor" once but I stopped. I don't remember why. But now with you guys I might finally be able to manage :)

50x66 As for the March book, I vote for Play Dirty, the Sandra Brown book.

50x66 He sounds horrible!! I'm sorry Erin :( I hope things get better and you and your little girl don't have to go through too much of a hard time.

50x66 I'm sorry about what you're going through with your ex! It mustn't be easy (an understatement I'm sure). Take all the time you need! And yes please come by to say hello or tell us whatever :) We'll still be here when you have to time to read with us again ;)

And yeah the book was crazy, over the top haha
Feb 23, 2017 05:16PM

50x66 Hahaha! Don't worry! And omg yesss the stuff they get away with! Smh...
Feb 22, 2017 04:52PM

50x66 Awesome! Thanks so much! I added it to my TBR and I'll be reading in the new month or two. :D

50x66 Yeah at least it was a happy ending :) OMG yes the dirty talk was a bit much and I'm totally onboard with the scene you are talking about. It also seemed very out of place. It felt like it happened just to happen. Again, I think it's the author experimenting with certain things in her work.

I'm glad you enjoyed it to some extent! Corrupt is a bit edgier/darker than Punk 57 and the smut gets very strong towards the end of the book. I think it's labeled as erotica under genres here on Goodreads due to that. A bit stronger than Punk 57 and not in a way that, imo, made 100% sense.

Her first book, Bully, was one of my favorites and I really enjoyed the couple in the second one, Rival, as well.

I'm going to try to read Misconduct, her other stand alone, next month. I'm curious to see how much of her new "stuff" is in that one.

What have been some of you guy's favorite new adult novels?
Feb 20, 2017 07:31AM

50x66 I finished the book over the weekend! I was writing my thoughts on the thread through my phone and right when I was about to submit I accidentally lost all of it AHHH!

So I don't remember everything but here is the gist:

1. Not my favorite book by Penelope Douglas. I thought it was 100% stand-alone but it takes place in the same universe as one of her other books, Corrupt, which I didn't like either. I saw traces of the elements in Corrupt that I disliked in Punk 57. Which is the guy being a bit too much of an a-hole when he goes about courting the girl. Crossing the line there a bit in some cases. Plot-wise they only overlap when Misha's cousin, Will, and his friends show up for that one scene and also in the epilogue for a brief moment. If you want me to answer any questions about the characters from Corrupt let me know!

2. Didn't like the characters too much :/ Misha and Ryen. Ryen a bit more than Misha. I get the message behind the story and hey, I love a good redemption arc, but I didn't get enough of that here to like Ryen. The author leaves an afterword that says us readers are sometimes too hard on our heroines since we want them to be perfect but I don't think that was the problem. Ryen just rubbed me the wrong way. I think the author is currently experimenting with her writing and some things are just not working out for her.

3. I did like parts of Punk 57. Like the trio of boys that ends up befriending Ryen at the very end aaaand....I can't think of anything else lol I liked it when Ryen was super mad at Misha when she found out the "truth" even though it didn't last long.

Oh! And the story was a bit anti-climatic because all the things at the end were a bit predictable. Like with the principal? Not sure, overall the story felt a bit childish. I guess new adult works best with college students, not high school kids.

Looking forward to your thoughts!

50x66 I past the 50% mark. The story has been keeping me engaged but this hasn't been my favorite Penelope Douglas novel. Some things are a bit too over the top (like the stuff they get away with), it's a bit unbelievable. Also, I feel like they've been building up the story around conflicts that at the end of the day aren't a big deal. I don't want to get into it more to avoid spoiling. But well, maybe the end of the story will surprise me. We'll see! I'm still enjoying it. Also, the smutty scenes are good but there are some parts that are too disrespectful for my taste : P (like what they call each other and the stuff Misha says to Trey at the drive-in to tease Ryen ick)

50x66 I know the songs in the list are mentioned throughout the entire book so I guess you can play them at those moments if you want. I rarely ever do :)

I do hope you guys like the book! I'm by Chapter 10 right now. The way the main character treat each other is....I would never put up with it irl but I like reading about it in fiction. I hope you guys feel the same!! >___< Also, the girl when she's putting up her "act" is a pretty horrible person but I guess that's the point.

I want to know what's going to happen next! Can't really predict the ending!
Feb 16, 2017 06:57AM

50x66 Yeah :) I'll make it happen! Last night he did a live video on Instagram and it was soo cool! Like watching a little private concert. He was still in Aussie and the place he was sitting by looked so beautiful :)

You know that the author of Punk 57 includes a "playlist" at the beginning of the book with songs that she references throughout the book and there are two Eminem songs haha :)
Feb 15, 2017 05:52PM

50x66 I started Punk 57 today! Read the first three chapters. So far, so good. I'm looking forward to even more confrontations! The book has more of a mystery, dangerous vibe to it than I was expecting which is not a bad thing.

Look forward to your thoughts!
